How you gon be offended by Wendy's tragically poor eyesight and/or delusion? She can't help that she's living in a totally different reality from yours.

If you think otherwise just watch her attempts to sell fifty-dollar candles without the proper platform, social media presence, or home goods/decor-maven reputation.

Wendy is desperately trying  to escape a career she believed would be stable and prestigious (and more importantly, would please her Mommy). She'd rather drop the books and drop it like it's hot out in these streets. That's why she can't see straight.

LOL.  Wendy and I both know that that she is not the type of doctor her mother wanted her to be.  Her sister is.

I bet her mom was only happy after the professorship.

$50 candles.....in a pandemic.....when they are literally selling Yankee candles in the clearance section at TJ Maxx for like $10.

I should see if someone reviewed her candles.

    Bingo!!

I would rather be single than with a shitty man.

Robyn is with a man that neither loves or respects her.

Gizelle pretended to be with a man who has constantly humiliated her and might have given her an STD.

Neither of these women represent confident and secure single laidies.

Precisely.  And THIS was the Wendy read that got lost in translation.

It wasn't "you ain't shit because you ain't got a man" it was more like "you call yourself a bad bitch and THIS is the man you put up with, THIS is what you're modeling for your daughters."  A bad bitch doesn't need a man so bad that she puts up with the likes of a toad like Jamal.

Unfortunately Wendy's subsequent statements muddled the point.

Calling Eddie a doppelganger for Idris Elba was personally offensive to me and saying that gizelles comment about wanting to get with Idris Elba was some coded message about wanting Eddie was ridiculous.

And then constantly bringing up having Eddie's last name or whatever was dumb and totally obfuscated her original point.

Lots of show run on and on and on but never quite capture the cultural zeitgeist. That show was definitely one of them. And a show can still be not that popular and still earn a profit. This seems to be one of those shows.

It seems to have it's audience, but it's no Deal or No Deal.

Probably not, though that still doesn't make Candyass a mature quick witted member of Mensa either.

No one has to be a member of mensa to be quicker than Ashley Darby and/or Mia.

IIRC, deal or no deal hasn't had a recent reboot nor did it spawn a popular celebrity version of the show.

Like I said, just because you haven't heard of something doesn't mean it isn't a popular cultural reference.

As for cultural references, here is SNL referencing are you smarter than a 5th grader in a skit 2 weeks ago.

Here is "are you smarter than a 5th grader" on the tonight show with Jimmy Fallon

Must not have been that popular or have a lasting impact. Definitely wasn't big outside of the US.

But seems like the right show for someone like Candyass. Be funny to see here daring those fifth graders to drag her ass.

LOL.  It ran four seasons on fox in prime time and it appears to have averaged 3 million + viewers.   The first season had about 11.5 million viewers.  It airs in syndication, so it may actually have found a foothold in other countries.

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Are_You_Smarter_than_a_5th_Grader%3F_(American_game_show)

And it was popular enough to warrant a reboot on nickelodeon which also did well

    http://www.thefutoncritic.com/ratings/2019/06/12/nickelodeons-are-you-smarter-than-a-fifth-grader-makes-the-grade-scores-more-than-one-million-total-viewers-739114/20190612nickelodeon01/

I mean sure, maybe a major network just enjoyed burning money on an unpopular show for four seasons.....or......perhaps....just maybe.....you missed a popular cultural reference.

I'm fairly certain the fifth graders were smart enough not to physically attack someone over words, especially when their job was on the line.  So I guess monique isn't as smart as a fifth grader either.

Nah, when a 5 year-old calls you a poo poo head, you just smile, pat them on the head, and move on.

Candyass is basically a 5 year-old calling people a poo poo head. Not a fifth grader, mind you, but a 5 year year-old. Except she is shouting it half the time.

I'm not the one placing 5 year olds in fifth grade...

No, I just know the difference between a literal and figurative example.

    LOL.  Neither am I.

There was a game show called "are you smarter than a fifth grader" which I was referencing.

The show and accompanying jokes were/are pretty popular, so it's a little surprising that an adult wouldn't have gotten the reference.

Candaces barbs arent particularly immature and they are well placed.

Tyra Banks has joked about having a fivehead.

Adult comedians do yo momma jokes.

And I'm not sure which five year olds you're talking to who are calling people milkmaids. Literally or figuratively.

That's pretty on brand for Ashley.

If you know  a 5 year old asking "were you there beloved?"  you may possibly be in a Benjamin Button situation.

Gizelle is already attempting to set up her storyline for next season, which is beefing with Candiace.  She's calling Candiace broke in interviews while pretending to be supportive on Candiace's Instagram. Meanwhile Candiace was co-hosting E's Daily Pop and promoting her album in LA, while Gizelle was being shady.

Gizelle has endless nerve calling anyone broke while she lives in that disaster of a frankenhouse.

Candace was accurate when she called gizelles house a $900,000 teardown.

    Apparently yes.

    "Were you there beloved"

    "Take your milk and go"

    "Ashley fivehead darby"

Were all memorable, funny and on the spot.

The first two were directly to Ashley and she had nothing to respond to for either.

Wide bodied, while mean was memorable and clearly cut deep since Ashley is still whining about it.

Ashley hasn't been able to read candace at all this season.  I can't think of a memorable comeback she has had.  Maybe something about candace looking like a chipmunk, in her confessional?  But that's not really a comeback.

Even with the wide bodied insult all she could say was "and you said I body shamed?"

Which isn't a read at all, Ashley has body shamed and was also body shamed.

The town hall was almost seemed to me like a vision of Shiv's future, she's gonna give it the old college try, but the noise will just get in the way despite her best efforts. Her reaction to the whole thing at the end was telling too, she started it this episode, but I don't doubt we'll see Shiv plumb some truly nasty depths this season.

And Kendall, the way he was obsessing over those tweets and that host who was insulting him...This guy needs help. He's an emotional black hole that's just latching on to anything that gives him any stimulation, only to crash at the end. This too, will likely be a recurring pattern with him.

Logan in his own super shitty way, puts some value on family loyalty (not that he can reciprocate in any healthy fashion). You can tell that he's actually looking down his nose at Shiv for what she did.

Its just occurred to me that Logan may consider himself doubly insulated from any gunfire.

He now has Gerri and Shiv.  Seems like he put himself in a good position to say that he certainly isn't a misogynist and obviously knew nothing about any of this because....well, look, he put two women in charge.  And if they steered the ship wrong in a time of scandal, well, its just because they didn't have his magic touch, he wasn't in charge of anything at the time.  So why can't the board just put him back in charge?

He was willing to throw Kendall to the wolves and I'm sure he could justify doing the same to Shiv no matter how much he likes, loves or appreciates her.  The same way, at the end of the day, Shiv could justify throwing Tom to the wolves if it furthers her ends.

    •  Candiace's relationship with her mother really confuses me.  If she's so important to you that you want her there at every juncture of your life—deal-signing, the vow renewals of a castmate you rather pointedly do not like—then why the constant sniping?  Can it be that Candiace doesn't really feel whole and fulfilled without someone she can be bitchy to at her side?

This doesn't confuse me at all.  Familial relationships are complicated and as much of diva as Dot is, I think that, deep down she loves Candace.  I don't think its so black and white that a person who can be toxic cannot experience or express love.  I think their relationship is probably complicated.  But when that stuff went down with Monique, Dot was never out of Candace's corner.  When it comes down to it, Dot can be shitty, but Dot can also be Candace's biggest advocate and cheerleader.  She is ridiculous, but I just don't think its as black and white as all that.  And I expect that Karen may have invited Dot on her own, when she and Candace were close, Karen may have become close to Dot as well.  I'm not even sure that Candace doesn't like Karen or is pointed about it, I think she has just determined that she will keep Karen at arms length.

I wish someone there with Tammy would acknowledge that trying over and over to make her stick to a diet is fruitless and just give up on that.  They've tried so many times to get her to follow a diet, and it's just not going to work, so please can we try something else?

I'd like to see a dietitian sit down with her and ask her what she would like to eat, then help her understand that she can continue to eat what she wants, just lesser quantities.  This will take a long, long time--years, in fact--but it will take out the message of failure and at some point she will find a feeling of success and be motivated to eat in such a way that she will lose weight.  What she needs is a feeling of success, and since she's not going to do anything that's not on her own terms, she's never going to succeed if they keep going the way they are now.

For example:  She wants eggs, bacon, sausage gravy over biscuits and donuts for breakfast--or whatever it is.  You prepare her breakfast *just as she wants it, in just the quantities she wants* and then you say: Tammy, what can we reduce?  Instead of six slices of bacon, will 5 1/2 be enough?  Or whatever.  You can come to an agreement with her to reduce her intake *on her terms* and then go with that.  Let her see how she feels with that reduction.  Then after a week or so, ask her if she's ok with 5 slices.  And so on.  *She* is in control.  At some point, she will lose a pound--*success*--and at some point she will get it and reduce her intake more quickly.  We can only hope she doesn't die first.

I dont think this is a bad idea, but for Tammy, I think that she thinks she is too far gone.  Like why would she give up copious amounts of food, which makes her happy just to lose a few pounds?  Giving up the food is going to be uncomfortable and annoying and she has SO MUCH WEIGHT to lose.

I just think for her the hill is too tall to climb.

She wants to be happy and she equates happiness with a man.  Its a long road for her to be traditionally attractive in any way.  Its just so much easier for her to get with some guy who is a feeder than it is to put in even the work of portion reduction.

I wonder where that trainer went off too, because I think Tammy liked the immediate gratification of getting compliments from a relatively handsome man.

Intellectually, I understood Tammy is/will/would kill herself with food, but its really like watching a trainwreck is slow motion.  I guess Jerry found another woman to take care of him and now we have Phillip.

The baby is happy and chunky and I love to see that.

Being able to laugh off the bad things being said about him is Kendall’s way of controlling the narrative. If he is the first to laugh then it dilutes the power of the insult. It is a coping mechanism that has likely employed a lot growing up in such a toxic family.

Someone on Twitter said Kendall makes you want to punch him and hug him at the same time. That is so true. Interestingly, I don’t get nearly as irritated by Shiv or Roman who are equally awful. It speaks to the depth of the character development that my feelings for each Roy is complicated.

Funky Dineva, poet laureate of our time once said "no one can spray you with your own tea" which, in kiki talk means the same thing as what you said, get out ahead of things, embrace and own the narrative and then you suck all the power out of it.

I actually find Shiv the most annoying and irritating.  That smug smile and the superficial morals.  How quick was she to throw those cruise victims under the bus.

Kendall said something to the effect of "I'm who you want to be Shiv" and for as shitty as Kendall is, I think that is true.  SHE is supposed to be the edgy one, the progressive one making big moves, effecting change.  Instead, she is still playing the game, the same tired game where she follows her dad around hoping to be handed the keys to the kingdom, half smirks when she talks about how awful those women had it and is perfectly willing to let another woman who has been loyal to Logan take the bullets for her because she somehow imagines that Logan values her more.  Shiv talks a good game, but its just talk.  The only one who has really DONE anything, to me, is Kendall.

At the end of the day, Logan could possibly hand it all to Kendall just because he was the only one with the balls to actually TAKE the throne.  You saw how quick Logan was to dismiss Roman when Roman took himself out of the running and suggested Gerri.  If you're not going to fight for the empire Logan may not feel that you deserve it.

He barely cares a blip, but there seems to be something like the remnants of a conscience under Kendall's cringey bro personality.

Then Candyass really is slow and dumb.

    I disagree here as well.

Candace is almost too quick for her own good and comparatively Ashley is just much slower and is kinda dull.  Candace down Ashley with such a quickness that its the verbal equivalent of a Mortal Kombat fatality.  And then Ashley has nothing else to say and so people pity her because she likes to whine about being a victim when she is the one who starts the fights.

It kinda reminds me of softball back in the day when you had one team that was so much better than the other that they stopped the game when the other team was like 10 runs ahead and it was sad to watch because it was such a blowout.  Ashley gets pitied because she is slow and weak and Candace is much quicker and sharper.

I don't blame Candace for being annoyed when Ashley constantly pokes and prods at her, and it was good to see her, in advance just say that she wasn't going to give Ashley any time or attention and then to see her get up and leave after making her statement about white privilege instead of getting into it with Michael.  Which would have inevitably brought Ashley back so she could try to catch some attention.

Being judgmental is a double edged sword, because people are going to judge you doubly hard.  So, even if Gizelle liked some normal dude who make like 50k a year driving trucks I don't know if she could ever admit to it because you'd have everyone else coming for her.

Is Michael even rich, why isn't she working with a personal shopper?  Hell, get on StitchFix and have someone help you out.  Michael is having a "personal trainer" in his home gym five days a week and he afford to give you a membership to stitch fix?

I wonder if Ashley is trying to set the stage to work with some sort of flat tummy tea or diet app or workout app, and this season is the before.  If so, good for her, I'm embarrassed for her in those dresses, not because she is fat per se, but because those clothes do not fit her.

I cannot believe she wants a third child with that man goblin, who, is very in love with Juan Dixon.  I thought it was kinda nice that Candace was like "I have my issues with Ashley but even I think Michael isn't good enough for her"

W/R/T Michael and Chris and white privilege.  I could see the argument, Michael was telling Chris to come over and control his black wife, which IMO, isn't a great look.  And then to innocently be like "who...me?  what did I do wrong?"  If there is something that you feel Candace needs to stop immediately, either respectfully address it with her or explain it to Chris a little better than "you need to get your wife under control"  Just because Michael considers Ashley property doesn't mean that Chris does.  I think Michael could have asked any number of people why that might not have come off great and they would have given him an honest answer.

Cheers to the Potomac ladies. It's the one franchise where nothing ever really "happens" but it's still so darn entertaining. Because Mia momma issues, Ashley breastfeeding, Robyn (not) making hats or progress with Juan, Karen planning a wedding, Candiace singing, Gizelle broke her foot and Wendy got boobs. Liiiike that's all that happened this season.

It's very reminiscent of Phaedra dragging Kenya for "not having a man" or "not being able to get a man" when Phaedra had a man who had a loose grasp of the english language and a felony record.  Is that really a win sis?  I think that pressure is why Kenya got into a number of just awful relationships (I was only around for that guy she was dating with the crazy eyes).

I think what got lost in translation with Wendy was that what she was saying is that Gizelle has such low self-esteem and a low sense of self worth that she settled for a toad of a man who has never respected her and very likely had her children involved in something scammy with that restaurant that was "in their name"

I think Dorothy would make a great cast member.

This is exactly how I perceived Juan's reaction too.

From the very beginning, Juan barely wanted to be on camera and so I doubt that Robyn told him either conversation was going to happen on camera.

But its not that easy, direct or clean with HW.

I don't agree with a lot of the criticism leveled at her this season, but I think some of her early reads were very, very practiced.  I cringed at "TICK TOCK MIA!" because it sounded like something she thought she would put on a tee-shirt.  I'm also kind of annoyed that she made candles part of her storyline but the storyline was that she hadn't done any work and didn't know what she was doing.  Or that she never even made a candle.  She has four degrees, I don't believe that she is stupid and I dont' think she should have allowed for a storyline where she ends up looking this stupid and unprepared.

Good luck to Gizelle with using Candiace as her storyline.  Candiace said on numerous occasions, that she doesn't respond to Gizelle because she's messy and  she's meeting her where she's at. Chris said in an interview last week that Candiace is beginning to see who her friends truly are on the cast. Candiace also said in her Bossip interview and on the Real that Chris becomes frustrated because he knows that the women use her to have a moment, and she's starting to see what he's talking about.

I hope that she is starting to see this.  Particularly with Ashley, who doesn't have anything else going on in life.  She pokes at Candace and when Candace responds Ashley immediately proclaims herself a wronged victim.

While I did not agree with Chris pulling Candiace away from the dinner table with Ashley, I had a feeling that he, in his heart, thought he was protecting her because Ashley has nothing to lose and Candace is an easy way for her to be a sympathetic victim because Candace is so much smarter and quicker than Ashley.  Hell, even mentally unstable Katie got a few over on Ashley.
