  1.

Mulder and Scully from the X-Files. Not perfect, but one of my favorite ships, none the less.

Thank you!! They were awesome. Second only to my favorite ship, Sam and Ainsley of West Wing. To my embarrassment they got me into fanfic. My secret shame.

    Brenda and Jax (GH)

     Yes please!!

A ship I wasn't even thinking of until I saw the characters on-screen together: Jenny Mills and Captain Frank Irving of Sleepy Hollow!

I thought I was the only one who liked them. Missed opportunity.

  2. Even though I started this topic I hardly ever post so here I go: Empire is super soapy, and I can understand why that might upset some people, but I don't think that it was really advertised as really a whole lot more than that. Maybe since I'm coming from the perspective as someone who has watched soaps, I could see it, but wow! "soapy" was telegraphed from the print ad campaign. It reminds me a lot of Dallas. What I hadn't seen coming is that while I like Cookie (and LOVE Taraji) she can get on my nerves. And it's only a couple of episodes in. But that's her role. The real surprise is that I'm way more into Lucius than I thought I would be (I do not like Terrence Howard). The whole cast is great. And yes it's soapy, buts it's a really captivating show, which a lot of soaps are. I see, from a white perspective take of that what you will, is that I see it suffering from a lot of problems that true soaps suffer from, people don't take it seriously, so it gets dismissed. Regardless of the talent, it's "too much" so it's disregarded. Which is unfortunate because beyond Taraji the kid who is playing Andre is killing it!

I have noticed some disregard towards Abbie on Sleepy Hollow but I'm curious: do you all think it's because of race or is it because of gender? I ask because it seems like a lot of nighttime tv dramas operate under the perspective that they can only have the main focus/write on/for one woman at a time. So do you think is it a gender thing or a race thing? Or both?

I have no opinion on Scandal. I have maybe seen 15 min. total, but for what it's worth I have only ever heard about Kerry Washington and the one scene I saw with Bellamy Young (?) I thought "hey it's that chick from Criminal Minds".

I had to look that up, because I don't know many of the episode titles, but that is a good one.  I think the first four seasons of Reba are surprisingly funny.  It's not particularly sophisticated, edgy or innovative humor, but it's funny, and as was discussed above that works for me if that's what a show is trying to do and does it well.  Reba McEntire isn't anywhere near as good an actor as she is a singer, but the cast gels together wonderfully.

I like Reba the show, except for Reba. Her voice/accent make me want to put a knife through my eardrums. And I'm a southerner with a pretty good accent myself!!

  4. The pictures loaded out of order (weird, I did something wrong!). Sabrina is the orange one, not sure why her picture is so big! Milky is the black one staring straight at the camera, Juanita is the kitten sleeping with a paw up and Nova is the one with the Christmas collar. None are related, all were foster "failures". By which I mean I was supposed to foster than take them back. That didn't really work out well.

Nova and Juanita are much cuter in pictures than they are in real life. Juanita pees on everything if I try to foster any other cats (including me), and Nova is just cranky. There my babies though.

  5. I'm in. I was on the fence at first (I really, really cannot stand Terrence Howard) but I was into pretty much everyone else (I'm ambivalent to Sidibe). I actually am reallt intrigued by Andre and his wife (no clue as to her name). I think they'' be interesting.

What the hell happened to Malik?

Yes, WTH?? I know it was forever ago, but for some reason I still expected to see NYU Yoba!! Not fair, but still.

Also, count me as another white girl who if I ever dares call my grandmother (I don't think my parents would have noticed if I spoke when I was a kid, much less curse) even a "witch", I would still be recovering and I'm approaching 40!

Two interesting things I noticed: 1. In the scene where Andre's wife gave him his meds, he took them in a odd manner, specifically the way he put them in his mouth. It was like he made a fist over them, and threw them in from an opening between his thumb and index finger. A very easy way to look like you're taking them and palm them away. If this ends up being the case, major props to TPTB for not showing the tossed away pills.  2. The last scene where they were doing close ups of all the players, they showed Andre and his wife while Lucius was talking, more scene, and then did the close ups of Cookie, Lucius, Jamal, Hakeem, Anika (I think, not positive about this one) and Michael. No Andre, no wife. The fact that Michael was included is interesting to me and makes me think he'll be mor eof a player than it's let on now.

  6. Carly is fine with them. And the few greyhounds I've seen at the Humane Society where I volunteer seem to have been fine (only limited contact with them though). Carly is actually probably more nervous around them the tinier they get (I use to foster bottle-feed kittens, Tiny!). The only time she has been "aggressive" towards them (or anything) is when she's in a dead sleep and they startle her awake. But even then it's more from a shock point of view.

From those I've talked to about greyhounds (other owners mainly) is that they are so well trained when they are on the track that they know when to chase and when not to. But I would definitely get the read of the dog first.

Stillshimpy she's a greyhound, she's just little! My friend did that one christmas she was watching her. Took one of my scarf's and put it on her. You should see her in her little yellow raincoat with the hood up!!

  7. There's a new Jennie-O ground turkey commercial which irritates the crap out of me. Jennie-O (a pretty big freakin' company) drives out to some little, succesful food truck serving tacos and then prepares to show them how much more awesome they are. Beyond the fact that it is bullcrap that their little turkey taco is ZOMG more amazing than this food truck taco that people drive miles for, why does this national company feel the need to steal customers from this little food truck. It's distasteful.

  8.

I'm actually really tired of "trainwreck" characters - people you're supposed to keep watching to see how mad, bad, crazy or dangerous they can get.

I prefer watching stories about bad guys then good guys.  I find them more interesting.  Good guys bore me.  Heart warming bores me.

I'm much more a good guy than a bad guy fan, although I like dark and depressing. Personally I find the bad guys rather boring, but that's why there are different shows/movies/ etc. which leads to this UO (?)...

I think the whole Best. Show. Ever. talk is bullshit. For anything and everything. There is no best ___ ever. It's all taste, which runs the gamut, even in one person. I personally think Homicide: Life on the Street (S1-4) is the greatest few hours I've ever seen, but that's me. I also think It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia is lightyears funnier than Seinfeld (or really any other sitcom) ever dreams of being, at the same time, I know one other person who doesn't absolutely detest the show.

  9. I don't think I really have an all-time favorite; I checked "other" for Ethiopian since I get it so rarely. But I like most cuisines. Not big on Thai, though. Or american-styled Chinese. I'm really picky about Mexican, not necessarily in a good way though. I tend to the more Taco Bell Mexican, and I live in a town with several really good authentic Mexican restaurants.

My tops (other then Ethiopian): Greek, Italian, and southern US.

  10. I don't like The Nutcracker. I don't know what the hell a sugarplum is. I just don't get the whole thing.

I don't know either, but I was in Austin one Christmas visiting relatives and Central Market (the most awesome, fucking store ever!!) had these little "sugarplum" jelly candies. I LOVE them!! Haven't been back in a few years and I still think about them.

Personally, I like the Nutcracker. But I have no interest in seeing It's A Wonderful Life. And if I ever have to sit through Wizard of Oz or Sound of Music it's too damn soon.(seriously, I couldn't remember the last name and they advertised it on TV as I'm typing. It's stalking me!)

  11. I'm not a huge coke drinker (notice the small "c", it's all coke), but I do like Peach Nehi, Cheerwine, ALe-8-1 and GUS dry lemon soda. I love carbonation, so I drink a lot of club soda.

  12. Awesome thread!!

    Bolegnese. Love!!

    Mackerel sashimi.

Cheese. Pretty much any kind, but I'm really love manchego.

    Butter chicken, medium.

Cake batter. Yes, not cooked, just the batter. SOmetimes I'll have it for dinner. With wine. My diet is not good.

My grandma's pumpkin pie. Mine is close, but I miss hers.

Wine. That's a food group, right??

  13. I like nail art, I wish I was better at it so I could do more. I really am not a fan of the super long nails or pointy nails; oddly enough I also don't like the squared off nails that seems to be so popular in my area.

My other big peeve is the light hair with the dark roots. Can't stand.

  14. Hmm, I'm not huge cookie person, I actually do not like chocolate chip cookies unless they are literally straight out of the oven. I've burnt my mouth before they're still hot. I want the chips to be melty.

I do like a spice cookie I make. Store bought, it this cheap oatmeal cookie that I can't remember the name of. It's a hard, not soft cookie. I also like Mallomars, but I only eat the marshmallow part, so I don't think that counts. I do like Tagalongs, but only the old version with the proper ratio of peanut butter to cookie. They've screwed it up and it's not the same now.

Keebler used to have a cookie, Magic Middles. Those were good.
