When i saw the HOO for the skydiving, I wondered if the Express Pass could have been used for that.  I don’t recall Phil saying it had to be used for either a roadblock or detour, just a task.  I figure skipping that task would have given them a huge lead.  Anybody know about the rules?

Someone on this episode, I think it was Corey, definitely said the Express Pass had to be used on either a Roadblock or Detour.

As a person of a certain age, when I saw 1963, I had to force myself to read the rest of the clue to make sure my first impression wasn’t incorrect.

Lol, yeah I’m not even of that age but I had it before Ken had even said 1963 out loud.

A lot of missed clues tonight I thought were pretty easy. Including cloche, Ken! Which I think only know because it’s always an answer.

Did anybody else notice the first four to drop out of the IC were the same four who had just returned from The Sanctuary - Where Good Things Happen™ ?

    Curious, that….

They were also all the women. This challenge was solely based on upper arm strength.

  4. Right before Tribal I thought to myself that the edit Bruce has been getting the whole season fits perfectly in line with a doofus who leaves with an Idol in their pocket, so maybe it’ll actually happen?
    Woohoo!

I’ve never had such a wild 180° turnaround on someone like I did Emily. I really disliked her the first couple episodes but she is now my favorite player and it does seem like the edit is setting up her to be the winner.

I laughed so hard at Kellie’s head turn when Bruce got his first vote.

Maybe we should first be clear that Todd and Ashlie did not "miss" the "Express Pass Taken" sign. There WAS no such sign, because when they started running up the stairs, Rob and Corey were still climbing the stairs.

Well duh. I don’t know who you think is confusing the two.

  6. Todd is seen as negative because he treats Ashlie like crap. From blaming her for missing the sign to his terrible attitude on the ski task. He really comes across as a dick.

A team would have had to be able to pass another going up the stairs, either by pushing past or from the leading team having to let them pass, otherwise the first team there could have just put their arms out to the side and leisurely walked up in no rush.

I think it is telling that Bruce did not offer his immunity necklace to Jake. The votes were in, so nobody would have voted for Bruce and he couldn’t keep the necklace once there’s a new immunity challenge. So he wouldn’t have jeopardized himself at all.

if I were Jake I would definitely be doubting my alliance now with Bruce.

I don't think you can do that after the votes have been cast. Otherwise everyone who wins Immunity would do that at every Tribal to guarantee two people are safe.

  8. I did the math and knew it was something related to 1776, but I couldn’t think of what that would be. I said Washington Monument just to have a guess even though I knew that couldn’t possibly be it since due to Hamilton the Musical I know that Eliza Hamilton was involved with getting it built, which would have been mid-1800s.

So then it wouldn't have been a navigation task, it would have been a memorization task.

They're allowed to write down direction they get from bystander phones so it's not a memorization task either.

    It's a transcription task!

Even with explicit point to point task, you run into traffic because there's constant road construction.  So people do real detours.

For the lock code, they definitely needed the Internet.  I guess in some earlier seasons they went to cybercafes.

If the bystanders were always locals, you could say at least they interacted with the locals.  But in a lot of cases, they're American tourists, even fans of the show.

Some bystanders are eager to help out and sign waivers to have their faces shown on the show and some on this episode had their faces blurred.

The Amazing Race, stuck in the 20th century, except contestants can ask 21st century bystanders!

You ask this every single season and are always given the same answers. I get that you want the racers to have phones. It’s not happening. The race would be boring as hell if that happened.

Chelsea and Robbin act like someone forced them at gunpoint to do this race. There is no joy. Especially from Chelsea. I thought she was rude at the castle when she said “I don’t know. You tell me” to the guy collecting her coins who asked “what’s the right amount?”  He’s just playing his role, Chelsea. Maybe stop and enjoy it. She looks so dour even in their talking heads that I am convinced every leg that they got eliminated.

Was she the one who didn’t even bother to do the challenge and just kept giving random amounts of coins? Whoever that one I hated them. It’s like some people see the word “math” and their brains turn to goo. Even though the task was no more difficult than “give me 2 quarters worth of nickels.”

  11. The Dune question confused me because I thought it was asking for the name of a real planet that Dune was based on. Not the real name of the planet in the book. 🤦‍♀️

For FJ I thought they meant the quote inspired Neil Armstrong but that didn’t help get the answer. I also said Magellan just to say something but I had no idea. Even had I connected the quote to Star Trek there is no way I’d have made the leap to Captain Cook.

I feel like they've been to that MC Escher building before, and had a task there.  Did I dream that, or was that a thing -- maybe from an early season?

I definitely remembered seeing those stairs before! Googling it I see it was season 2 of the Amazing Race Australia. They had to walk down and up a certain number of stairs to arrive at a particular location.

  13. I don’t get why Cirie is even supposed to be so good. When she had an automatic duo in Jared they had power together but by herself she’s useless. She seems like the ultimate floater. Can’t win anything and lets the power people take shots at each other while doing nothing.
How is she really any different from Bowie? Hell, Bowie at least even won HOH.

  14. Oh Emily. Some of those guesses made me laugh. The nose, really?

For FJ I said “Andrew Johnson and (doing the math) who was President in 1945? That was still FDR right? OK, Johnson and FDR.”

(not realizing that FDR died in April 1945. So close!)
