  1. Well, Jaclyn is only in her 20s so she would have only been teaching for a few years. I'm in my 20s too and I'm just basing the evening/weekend thing on my teacher friends who are about the same age.
  2. Wasn't it dumb when the show gave us recap montages of each couple's relationships so far? We remember what happened, no need to remind us. I think this show goes on for way too long. It started the same week as "The Bachelor", but while that show had its finale last night, we probably have another 6 or 7 episodes to go...We've been watching for 9 weeks but the couples have only been married for 1 month. That means each episode only covers about 1/2 week.
  3. Teachers don't work 7-3. They spend a lot of time in the evenings and on weekends lesson planning and grading.
  4. Yes, it was pretty insensitive. If he treats her like this now, I can see these comments getting progressively more passive-aggressive over the years (if they last that long).
  5. Barely anything of note happened in this episode. Jaclyn's starting to get annoyed that Ryan goes out a lot without her and I don't blame her. I can't believe she changed her last name on day one. It was gross of Ryan to suggest that they play strip soccer. Why would you want the camera crew to film you and your wife stripping? Jesus...And I don't like his "This is my ZOMBIE shirt" T-shirt. He's just so cringeworthy to me. Jephte and Shawniece were very cute, especially when they were arguing about what to name their children. Is it just me, or were they barely in this episode compared to the other two couples? Molly & Jon: The apple picking and pie-making were cute but she seems so pessimistic--"will we even last 10 years?" when Jon suggested that they wait that long to eat their wedding cake. Eating the ice cream off the floor was kinda funny. I'd probably do the same thing...
  6. In the previous episode, Jonathan told someone that he thought if he had met Molly at a bar and hit on her that she would not been responsive to his advances. This episode, his suspicions about her lack of attraction to him was confirmed and he lashed out. You can't make someone want you if they don't want to. I think he should just back off, play it cool and see how Molly responds.
  7. She did come clean and tell him why--she's not attracted to him but she's trying to get to a place where her attraction to him can grow.
  8. She said it happened in college. People get a lot of their crazy partying/sleeping around done in college and become more conservative as they age.
  9. I always watch with closed captioning so I can hear what they are saying, but I do that with all shows and movies and I'm pretty young.
  10. I think this was published in an unsubstantiated, not very reputable article on the internet. But many participants (and even one of their mothers) have denied getting that paid that much as well as the show producers. https://www.realityblurred.com/realitytv/2016/11/married-at-first-sight-stipend-pay/
  11. I'm thinking it's more likely that they have to pay a penalty if they don't finish the experiment. Ever since Heather bailed on Derek in season 4, I think the show put in a new clause in their contracts...
  12. They do not get $100k for doing this show. They get a weekly stipend but it's nowhere near six figures in total. I agree that Jonathan shouldn't have brought up the threesome thing. Things don't look good for them. I have never cringed harder watching this show than during Shawniece's pole dance and Ryan's construction worker role play. It felt like we were intruding in their intimate moments. Shawniece and Jephte's rollerskating date was cute. I'm amazed that Ryan isn't willing to cut back on some of his work hours/gaming/paintballing to spend more time with Jaclyn. He should be happy that she's so into him. Jonathan would switch places with him in a heartbeat.
  13. Nick from season 4 had his twins 2 months premature in December--Layla Rae and Logan Joseph. Good luck to the new parents and best to the twins, but I hope we never hear about them again in People magazine. Please don't give them a TV show like Jamie & Doug. I think it's super trashy to divorce someone and then have kids with another woman in the same year. http://people.com/babies/nick-pendergrast-welcomes-twins-daughter-son-first-photo/
  14. Jon works in the financial sector which is more conservative than most, so I can understand why they would not approve of him being on the show. Sonia, the social worker from season 4, said that she was written up at her job for being on the show, so Jon's definitely not the only person to have suffered consequences from MAFS.
  15. As a child welfare worker, I am also getting a strong sexual assault vibe from Molly...hope it's not true.
  16. Maybe Molly hasn't made out or done anything physical with Jon because she is afraid her makeup will rub off and he will see her acne. She might be afraid that he might become less physically attracted to her...Just a different perspective since the consensus of this board seems to be against Molly. I myself struggle with less than perfect skin and I know it is a sensitive topic. Molly's an attractive woman and she sees that Jon's an attractive man and she doesn't want to slip lower in his estimation of her looks. At this point in their relationship, she might not have developed enough trust in Jon to confide in him about her physical appearance.
  17. I doubt she's a virgin. I remember one of the potential candidates from season 4 being disqualified because she was one. Maybe Molly's like Jamie Otis and waits at least a month until she sleeps with the guy. Some women like to take it slow. Like Red12 said above, complaining about a lack of sex doesn't increase their partner's libido. I just hope Jon & Molly won't be sent to a tantric masseuse.
  18. Wow, you're so right about this! Ryan's honeymoon toast to Jaclyn was very reminiscent of Adam Sandler's declaration of love to Winona Ryder in "Mr. Deeds": "Hard to breathe / Feels like floating / So full of love my heart's exploding. / Mouth is dry / Hands are shaking / My heart is yours for the taking. / Acting weird / Not myself / Dancing around like the Keebler elf. / Finally time / for this poor schlubb / To know how it feels to fall in lub."
  19. Jon had a job when they first chose him. Interesting tidbit from a podcast interview with Cortney & Jason: she said participants sign the contracts to agree to get married when they start the screening process.
  20. Sadly, society socializes women to put the needs and wants of others ahead of themselves. Molly expressed that she sets aside money every month for her hair and nails and that she was uncomfortable/allergic to cats, and I see commenters on other message boards calling her names like "selfish bitch". Basically, you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't.
  21. Whichever poster said that this show uses marriage as therapy was so on point. Has Jaclyn been to therapy since her boyfriend's death? It felt so exploitative for the producers to have her go through those boxes on-camera. I dislike Ryan but he shouldn't have been matched with someone who might have unresolved trauma. That being said, it didn't help that Ryan said that their relationship was going backwards and that he brought zero baggage into their marriage.
  22. I think Jephte is an elementary school teacher so he probably makes less than a high school teacher. Ryan said that he worked a lot of overtime as a firefighter since he was single (he said he was working 90 hours/week), so I'm guessing he makes significantly more than $49k. And he said he had money coming in from rental properties. There was an old Facebook profile someone dug up that showed Jephte as living in New York, so I'm guessing he relocated to Boston for work/college/live closer to his mother. The sports thing is dumb. People marry people from different religions, political beliefs so I doubt sports allegiances are such a big barrier to overcome.
  23. I hated how he was haggling with them over the tip. He was bragging about how many revenue streams he had in the first episode and now he's trying to stiff people of a few dollars? The caricature of the ugly American abroad.
  24. Those are good points. However, I remember at Molly's bachelorette party, though, she was very receptive of the male stripper who was grinding in her face. I also noticed that after Jonathan did a handstand during paddleboarding, she imitated him. She also mentioned going to a performing arts high school and doing trapeze, tightrope, contortion, etc. Maybe she's more the life of the party after she's had a few drinks in her but she's avoided drinking on her honeymoon since she might not want to make a bad impression for her employer? But yeah, Jonathan's definitely more outgoing than her. And our perceptions of ourselves can definitely different be different than other's perceptions of us. You're right about the IG model thing. But those women have so many filters and layers of makeup on, so who knows what they really look like? Shawniece herself could be a IG model. Also, didn't they mention that their luggage was lost? So maybe Shawniece didn't have access to all of her makeup/hair products/etc.
  25. I think what you're saying makes sense. I read that OkCupid, the online dating website, had user data that showed that black women and Asian men were the least likely to hear back from people they expressed interest in while white men and Asian women were the most likely to hear back. There's definitely a marriage squeeze for black women, especially professionals. This show should be more willing to pair black women with non-black men, if the black women were open to that. I watched "The Bachelorette" last season when they had a black lead for the first time, Rachel Lindsay, a gorgeous lawyer, and when she picked a white Latino guy, a chiropractor, at the end, some people were very angry. Her last remaining black suitor was a personal trainer but why should a lawyer pick a personal trainer just because he's black? Jephte definitely thinks too highly of himself, thinking that he would be paired off with a Instagram model while making a teacher's salary. Shawniece is very attractive and I wonder if she expressed a preference for being paired with only black men. It sucks that the other guy they considered for her only wanted a Latina wife.
