  1. Grey's stayed low with a 1.7/7.06 in ratings. Sonia this a result of politics distracting viewers, a slump before May sweeps, or are viewers jumping ship? Of course, Grey's still beat most of its competition, but these are numbers Grey's itself has never seen before.
  2. Grey's hit a series low with a 1.7/7.2 million. Is anyone surprised? http://tvline.com/2017/04/07/mom-ratings-season-4/
  3. This. Before Catherine knew Jackson and April were a thing, she was offering to set April up with someone to study (and have sex with) for her boards. She did seem to be a mentor early on. As much as she has been especially hard on April, Catherine has also had her best moments as a character with April, in my opinion. The scene where Catherine comforts April about Samuel in 11x11, and the scene where they hug on the hospital roof after April calls her for a consult a few episodes after Samuel dies are both beautiful. Catherine also praised April's skills and attitude to Bailey during 11x24 when April brings the crushed car to the ER. I can see why people think Catherine is manipulating her. Catherine is a manipulative person at times. However, Aril seems to be a bit different. Besides Jackson and Webber, April is the only person Catherine ever shows genuine affection for. I am not sure if the times she was awful to April were just typical mother in law characteristics or maybe feeling she needed to protect Jackson. But either way, I do think Catherine is being genuine in her interest in April.
  4. He goes to confront him in the promo for the next episode.
  5. First, I just have to say, I love reading everyone's posts every week. We can all watch the same episode and come away with so many different opinions and emotions about what happened. While I don't always agree with everyone, I still like reading your thoughts. So, here are mine! April/Jackson/Webber/Catherine: (This might be spoilery for the next episode if people haven't watched the promo!) I noticed someone mentioned they didn't understand the patient metaphor in relation to the doctor's stories in this case (because we all know there has to be one). In my opinion, the patient's injuries represented what April/Jackson/Webber/Catherine are doing to each other. He was burned, stabbed, and literally had his insides coming out, while they are doing all the same things to each other figuratively. That is why there was no resolution with that patient. April said they should close and wait until he is stronger. They told the family he needed time to rest. And the same is true of April/Jackson/Webber/Catherine. All this fighting is wearing on all of them, and they need more time before they will recover from it. I don't think it is spoilery to say Jackson is going to see his father in the next episode since it is in the promo, but if it is, I apologize. All of this anger from him is really about feeling the need to protect Webber because he is the only man he has ever seen as a father figure. He doesn't really care one way or another about Minnick or her method, but he does care about Webber. Jesse Williams said in an interview once that Jackson is either really bottled up or really effusive, and I think he can no longer contain all his feelings on this issue. They are spilling over toward everyone, but especially those he is closest, too. I think he has already found his father in Montana, and that is why he was so secretive with what he was looking at on the laptop and why he wants to go see that patient with the throat tumor. Someone mentioned they weren't sure why April would be there, but I'm not sure why she wouldn't. I know there are some who don't like her, but for the most part Jackson and April are widely liked as a couple, and are the most married divorced couple ever. Sarah said in an interview that when she pitched the Samuel story she thought it would be a great opportunity for Jackson to be heroic, and he was. While they both lost a child, the show chose to focus on how April dealt with terminating the pregnancy and Jackson supporting her through it. It seems they are doing the opposite with his father storyline. Jackson is dealing with his abandonment and April is supporting him through it. It's not as if she follows him around with puppy dog eyes hoping he takes her back. He asked her to move in. When she offered to leave once she was healed, he asked her to stay. This isn't April inserting herself into Jackson's life. He can't work through his feelings for her well enough to admit anything so instead he sulks on the couch while she attempts to move on. I do think the show intends to put them back together. The promo says, "You can't move forward until you deal with the past," so he is dealing with it. Even the writer of last night's episode tweeted how much she loves Japril. As much as I hate all the fighting, I like that they are letting Jackson deal with his issues, meet his father, and then (hopefully) move on from it. Mer/Alex/Riggs: Sigh. Someone else said this felt like a set-up for a love triangle, but God I hope not. Ellen and Justin have both said multiple times that they don't see a romantic connection between Mer and Alex. They feel they are more siblings. I agree. And if the actors can't buy it, I don't think they will be able to sell it. I am all for Mer and Riggs getting together, but why the contrived obstacles? First Maggie, now Alex? It all feels a bit high school, and it is making it hard for me to root for them. And I want to. And in response to the comments on Mer not being pretty enough for Riggs, I think they are equal in looks. Ellen looks great for 47. And I should add she is not one of my favorites, so I am certainly not biased when I say that. Her character has become way too snarky and bitter for me, but I don't think her looks are a problem. Jo/Deluca: Their scene where she complimented him and they looked at each other a bit too long was cute. Which frustrates me. I like Jo and Alex (I know. Start booing now.) I also think that Jo's husband will inevitably show up and Alex and her will be thrown together in some capacity again. So, now I am just left feeling sorry for Deluca cause he is a good guy, but he is not going to win in a contest against Alex. Owen/Amelia: I really want to care about them. I do. But I don't. Because their story is such a rehash of Crowen, it is being majorly overshadowed by all the other stories. They come onscreen and I think, "Oh, yeah. This again." I would love for them to be happy, but apparently that will be dragged out until who knows when. Plus this story is really damaging Amelia's character. She could have some great stuff if they let her deal with her baby's death, but of course they aren't doing that... Arizona/Eliza: These two sneaking around is supposed to be sexy, but it's not. It just makes me frustrated with Arizona. Everyone is hating April/Catherine/Jackson/Mer/Webber or whoever they side with and Arizona is literally kissing the enemy. She's made some questionable decisions in the past, but this one really makes me give her the side eye when she comes on screen. Warren: Can he be Chief?
  6. I really thought I was the only one feeling this way about Meredith. Interesting to see I am not. I used to love her as a character, but since around season 11, it seems she is only there to make snarky comments. She has had a few good moments, like when the patient attacked her, but other than that she just seems so annoyed with everyone around her except Alex, and sometimes Riggs and Maggie. I don't know if they are writing her this way intentionally or if this is just how Ellen is playing her, but because of it I have totally lost interest in her. When she was barely in episodes this season I honestly didn't even notice until other people pointed it out. And these second half of the season episodes, that she has barely been in, have been much better than the first half. I agree that I no longer see her as a lead but as just part of the cast. Yes, the show is named after her, but I am way more invested in other characters than her. If she slowly transitioned to directing or producing more I wouldn't be sad.
  7. I actually don't think you are in the minority. (Maybe in this forum...) But across the fandom? There is a ton of April love on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and other forums. I think this is one of the reasons the show has been successful for so long. Shonda created characters that are incredibly relatable and incredibly flawed. We relate to certain ones and others we don't understand and probably never will just based on life experience. One of the things I have loved about April from the beginning is she is a bit insecure and less aggressive in her actions than some of the other women on the show. Shonda wanted to create a show featuring strong female characters, but not all women are Christina Yang confident or Nazi Bailey. April, in many ways, represents a lot of women who don't often see themselves in characters on TV. Of course she is flawed and makes bad decisions. The same could be said for every character on the show. The show loves to write redemption stories, and she is no different. As you can probably tell, I am on the side that sees April's perspective on all that has happened, but I see Jackson's, too. They both could have handled things differently, but then we wouldn't have some of the great stories they have given us. April, and Jackson to an extent, may be polarizing, but it works. Just the fact that they are getting a second couple centric episode tells us the show knows how popular they are. Side note: I also think that all of what has happened to them may have been a very long story arc that Shonda had planned seasons ago. Many people have noted that one of their biggest issues is lack of communication from both sides. Because of that, I find it interesting that the patient Jackson was working on in the episode where he interrupted her wedding lost his ability to speak and the patient that Jackson and April are operating on in Montana needs a throat transplant. I won't be surprised if somehow they restore this person's ability to speak/communicate. We all know that the patient stories are usually more about the main characters, and Jesse and Sarah have said that they finally talk about everything in their upcoming centric episode, so it seems as if they may be finally learning to communicate. Either way, I'm here for it.
  8. I hope they give April Chief of Trauma. Owen has often said that the ER doesn't run well without her there, so if she runs it better than him, just give it to her. He can go chase Amelia and she can run trauma. I think she would be awesome at it.
  9. Grey's and TGIT premiere pushed back to the 26th due to inauguration special... http://ew.com/tv/2017/01/09/greys-anatomy-scandal-htgawm-delayed/
  10. I wasn't sure if I should post this here or in the media thread, but it looks like Jerrika Hinton (Stephanie) may be leaving? It seems like it would be difficult to do two shows at once. http://deadline.com/2017/01/alan-ball-hbo-series-jerrika-hinton-sosie-bacon-daniel-zovatto-raymond-lee-cast-1201879698/
  11. I believe this episode was originally supposed to be 13x13, and now it is 13x10. Maybe this has something to do with all the pregnancies/maternity leaves, but it seems odd to move it. 13x08 was a stand alone episode (with Mer, Hunt, Steph, and Webber operating) and it was followed by 13x09 which was a pretty weak mid-season finale. So to come back from break with what sounds like another stand alone episode is strange. None of the stories are moving. And since it seems they have already filmed episodes 10, 11, 12, 13, 16, and 19 won't this mess with continuity? I guess not if it is a stand alone, but maybe? I saw on the synopsis that there is a guest star listed as a judge. I am hoping that is for Alex and this is not a stand alone, but the doctors going to treat the girl in jail is just a main story in the episode. Probably not with how this season is going, but I can hope.
  12. I thought this episode was one of the better episodes of S13, but...that is kinda the problem. I agree with everyone here who is saying they really need to move the stories along. I will keep watching because after watching a show for 13 seasons I will see it to the end, but it is frustrating right now. I am so glad Jo finally told Alex the truth, and there was an inch of movement in that story, but that should have happened five episodes ago. I also agree with those who are saying Deluca will probably drop the charges. It's not realistic, but Grey's does not deal in realism. Shonda said in her recent Facebook Q&A for her book that Alex Karev is not going anywhere, so there is no suspense here. The actual trial or Jo's husband showing up would have been more interesting to watch. Amelia leaving was predictable because of Caterina having her baby, but I don't love the storyline. I literally don't think anyone is interested in Owen being married to a woman who does not want children again. I think exploring Amelia's loss of her son could be great, but we probably won't see any of that, and if we do, it will be eight episodes from now. I like Arizona having a love interest, but I am completely team Webber here. I also really liked the scene where Webber found out Maggie, Jackson, April, and Arizona are willing to fight for him. I want to see more of this, but again, it will probably be dragged out. I would like to see them explore Jackson going up against Catherine (since she started this whole thing and then ghosted). I guess the awkward triangle is being ignored for now? They spent so much time on it, and now they are acting as if it never happened. I doubt it is finished, and the writers will suddenly remember it in the second half of the season when they need some drama, but again, why drag it out? I mean, I'm not saying I love the story, but I would love some resolution. Jackson and April are living together, which I am all for, but they are talented enough to be given more. Let's just put them back together already and then give them a good hospital related story (see above suggestion with Catherine). Actually, I am curious about the use of the couples in general this season. We all know that Ben and Miranda and Webber and Catherine are not the couples people are tuning in for. And the only other actual couple, Owen and Amelia, has been rushed into fighting and little else. Has there even been a love scene this season?? I can't remember one. Not that they have to put them in, but Grey's has always done hot scenes with their characters that got the audience talking, and that has been lacking this season. The on-call rooms are actually being used for sleep, and well...no one wants that. As everyone has mentioned, why is Leah here? Besides to kick off the Minnick story? Which easily could have been created from Ben's situation last season. Basically to echo everyone else, I need them to do something and move the stories along.
  13. I may be wrong, but on July 15th, Shonda Rhimes tweeted that she emerged from the editing room to find out about the Nice tragedy. I wondered and still do, what was she editing if none of her shows had begun filming for next season? Perhaps the reason Sarah Drew knew that the show is picking up right where it left off (as she mentioned at the CTV interview) is because they filmed more than what we saw in the finale? Just a thought, but that could also explain the late start.
