Have to agree as well. My husband is former Navy. I'm not allowed to fold his t-shirts out of the laundry because "I don't do it right" (hey, I'm fine with him doing it, less for me to do!) My husband also has a very confident demeanor (he was military police to boot). But...I can tell you that my husband definitely lived up (and continues) to the old cliches about rowdy Navy men. My husband is very outgoing (nice way of putting it). To some, he may appear childish, but when you need him, he immediately turns into the responsible man I've grown to count on.

LOL @ your husband folding his own t-shirts because you don't "do it right".   The "right way" is always how the military taught, regardless of how well your alternate way works.  But, when my husband tried to tell me the "right way" to fold his underwear, I drew the line.

  2. Someone noticed the "me and Tom" thing last week, so that this week, I could've counted them.  It's like a speech impediment - once you've heard it, it gets stuck and it's ALL you hear.  And whoever mentioned that Derrek does the same: Thanks.  Now I'll hear that next week.  Here's what I noticed (all by myself!): Derek refers to Heather constantly as "THIS girl".  Like he doesn't even feel comfortable enough with her to use her name.

ETA: I want to add that, as a mother of a U.S. Marine, don't put too much stock in that whole neatness thing.  They are well trained to be neat and tidy on base, and on duty.  They are all about rules, and they know how to follow them ("Are we clear?  Are we clear???"  Crystal). And I'll admit his appearance is forever and always clipped and tidy.  He looks like a Marine in civilian clothes.  His demeanor is not exactly aggressive, but self confident and assured.  Decisive.  Almost commanding.  But he's still a slob in his own house.  Just saying.

As the wife of a Marine, I thoroughly agree with you statement. I asked my husband once what happened to all that hard work and training to keep everything around him straight?? He said it was a lot of hard work, and he isn't at work now. He did, however, maintain the self-confidence and commanding attitude he gained from serving with the USMC.

No ratings haven't been good. Chances for a season 2 are pretty much zero. I've heard rumblings that the episode order might have been cut but I can't find anything concrete

I'm very disappointed that this show hasn't caught on.

But I have a sneaking suspicion that some of the lack of appeal has to do with the name 'BrainDead'.  If I hadn't seen on this site the New Show Fact Sheet describing it as a "political/sci-fi drama/comedy" I don't think I'd have checked it out because it sounds more like yet another zombie show (the tank is full, folks!) or maybe a medical mystery about coma patients?? And even after my husband and I had been watching for a while, I could not get the name of the show to stick in my head ("babe, what's that show? Not 'Deadheads', somethingHead? You know, /exploding heads/...").

If they'd named it something more sticky like 'Aliants', would it be reaching more of an audience?

Great episode, and that's telling because I don't even think there was a single reference to bugs of any kind (other than the previouslies).

Speaking of those, if there are any videogame players here, I immediately recognized the name Jonathan Coulton in that fun little previouslies bit. He wrote the songs Still Alive and Want You Gone featured in the credits of the 2 Portal games (widely considered some of the best videogame songs of recent memory). I'm definitely going to have to look up more stuff he's done.

I remember his from his muzac version of Baby Got Back

It's too bad it's not the Gustav and Rochelle show.  They just keep getting better and better.   The accent that Tony Shaloub is doing is just great.   I thought the cute animals thing with the witness at the hearing was hilarious.   I don't care about Laurel's family that much.

I also love the accent Tony Shaloub is doing - I actually assumed he was Canadian, and using the chance to exploit his own accent.  But, nope - I checked - he's American, and a really great actor!

  6. No! They why did they need to rush this decision and pull the show before November? That's some short-sighted vision, CC :(
My favorite part of The Nightly Show was the panel discussion. I think the panel should have taken up more of the show. It really benefitted when they showed rational discussion of truly diverse viewpoints. I think some notes to comedians on the panel - guests and regulars - on how to express their opinions without resorting to lines from their standup routines would have benefitted everyone. I'd love to see TDS add a panel discussion!
And I loved and will miss "keep it 100".

  7. That was a great finale.  I got spoiled on who one a few weeks ago, but seeing Nadiya actually win was still awesome.

I'll have to rewatch because I missed the first half (thanks, Olympics!) but I thought Tamal's showstopper would have won, because while Nadiya's was gorgeous visually, Tamal's flavorings once again shocked Paul and Mary.  They clearly weren't expecting his sticky toffee cake to taste good, let alone be prepared properly.  Had he not messed up earlier, he could have won it all.

I thought Ian was sweet and quite genuine.  But I knew he was out once Mary commented on the simplicity of his showstopper.  The flavor would have had to been magnificent to make up for the simple appearance.  While it probably tasted great, it wasn't enough to win it all.

Again, Nadiya's cake was beautiful, and it sounded scrumptious.  I like fondant, and I love marshmallow.  I would have been tucking into that thing before they even announced the winner!

Congratulations to Nadiya.  Poor girl was so stunned, she couldn't even speak, just gesturing to her "trophy" and the flowers like "I actually won?"  Combined with her family seeing her win (her adorable kids!) and Mary of all people tearing up, it was a very sweet victory for Nadiya indeed.  Pun intended.

I almost want a spin off of Tamal and Nadiya hanging out, because those two are a great pair.  Lol at Tamal going to Nadiya's house.

I would watch "Tamal and Nadiya Teaching Children Baking Basics". In fact, I'd buy the videos to enjoy rewatching, and to learn for myself!

I would hope that the next season of this show (if there is one) will include:

a Fundamentalist Mormon couple from Utah

A Jewish couple born and raised in Boro Park, NY

An Indian couple where one of the spouses is flying in from India to get married to arranged partner

a strict Muslim couple whose families really arranged the marriage

Just throwing some ideas out there!

All of those would be more appropriate than "my brother set us up".  That's not 'arranged', it's 'dating'.

Wish we could see more of Christian's mom and dad (from Season 1) making an arrangement for Christian's younger brother.

Did I miss something? I didn't see or get the impression that Rachel asked Jeremy to kill them, I thought he just went rogue.

Yay, @SillyOldClothCat!  You win the Ford Fiesta, the trip to Aruba and a walk-on role in Season Three!

    OMFG I totally did!

On Darius choosing Ruby, not on the recognition of White privilege but maybe they're saving that for season 3... ;)

  11. I have a faint hope that at the final elimination/rose/key/choice (I honestly forget how it's being done on Everlasting) ceremony, Darius will refuse to choose either of the remaining women and tell the camera he wants Ruby, has regretted cutting her since it happened, and is ready to be the man she knows he can be.

  12. For next week's finale, I predict Romeo will be back on set to help Darius navigate these shark-infested waters. Nobody else is able to see past their own self-interest to be trustworthy in their advice to him.

They probably thought so, but I'm not sure there is, or ever has been, a good time for a "let's have two black men get the cops called on them due to the very expensive car they are driving being falsely reported as STOLEN so a couple of white people can see what kind of footage they might get for their meaningless reality show, and then those same white people can experience the PAIN -- not of a possibly fatal bullet, not of a debilitating and possibly paralyzing back injury being aggravated, but of how terribly they're all up in their FEELINGS" story. That's aside from the fact (as others have pointed out) that while maybe our showrunners and writers weren't fully aware of what has been going on, um, forever, but certainly the last several YEARS...saying they hoped it'd be "dated" six months from writing this drivel is ignorant and dumb to the point of being offensive. Are police brutality/killings just a passing fad to the folks at UnReal? Is six months is honestly long enough in their minds that by the time the episode airs it won't be such a "hot topic" any more? They can exploit the hell out of it and people won't be so worked up about it? It'll all be solved and finished and people would be like, "Wow, remember that time, in like January 2016, when police shootings/killings were like, a thing? Man, this episode is like a time capsule!" COME ON.

I agree 100% - this episode, and the focus on RACHEL's feelings and reactions, is so tone-deaf it was offensive.  Sure, pop some pills to escape the reality you had a very large part in creating - the two men you set up might have been paralyzed or killed, but your mom's here to 'help' now.  Maybe the show will redeem itself by showing this is part of a self-aware season-long white privilege/cluelessness arc, but I really doubt it.

  14. Jay telling Rachel "This is not your story to tell" was the only thing i liked about this episode - it was so on point, on so many different levels.

It's on tonight, it had a break last week because of 4th of July.

Thank goodness it's just the very terrible listings served up by my local cbs affiliate causing me angst!  But now I'll need to wait until Friday to watch the episode on Amazon because I refuse to be strong-armed into paying for cbs 'all access'.

  16. So glad I caught this article, because I doubt I would have come across this documentary otherwise - what's up with burying the documentaries, HBOnow? Although I rolled my eyes a couple times at some ham-fisted editing choices, this film overall was made of Win. I loved the sensitivity and understanding shown by Rae as she interviewed clients. It really seems like Bindle and Keep is changing lives, one suit at a time.

  17. I just finished watching the first 2 episodes, and I think I'll keep tuning in when I need something light.  I didn't feel Mike Tyson was /too/ annoying because his kinda clueless gameplay really let all the other players and Anthony Anderson react and interact, and that's what was great about the old-school game shows.

  18. Taylor is an insufferable bitch. Every word that comes out of her mouth is dripping with annoyance, condescension and rudeness. She has to be deeply unhappy.

Mayur's "I live a very efficient life and if Maneka can help me with that, great." She's your wife asshole, not your admin assistant.

I think that's the problem. Because he's her boss at work, he acts as if the marriage is just going to be an expansion of her PA responsibilities.
