  1. Erin has bothered me from the beginning, and not because of something that was actually his own choice.  I hate hate HATE the sloppy was people (OK, Americans) pronounce 'Erin' and 'Aaron'.  Eh-rin is a girl's name; A-run is a boy's name.  Just had to get that off my chest.

That said, THIS Erin can thank his parents for his name, but can't blame anyone else for his piss-poor performance on this show.

Eugene taught them how to get drinkable water.  He knew which components were needed to fix the power grid back when the show was still pretending that any of this was about building and maintaining a stable community.  He knew which seeds and plants they should be looking for.  He risked himself for Tara and later the entire group.  He did know how to make bullets and later stepped up and admitted his responsibility for it when he had every reason to think that probably wouldn't end well for him.  And he was smart enough to trick the supposedly superior badasses into protecting him when he couldn't protect himself.  That last one alone makes him more interesting than half the personality-free members of Rick's crew.

So much this.  He has knowledge and skills that have been shown to be valuable:  he helped feed them, get clean water, maintain their energy grid, and give them ammo so they could defend themselves - skills that are all vital in a post-apocalyptic world.  Eugene's Big Lie actually saved Abraham's life.  He was about to put a bullet in his own head when Eugene have him a reason to live.  Yet they call him useless and coward because he's nervous and can't aim a gun very well.  Fuck CDB.  I hope Eugene becomes king of the Sanctuary.

I also credit Eugene with saving Glenn and Tara's lives.  Back when Abe was sleeping in the back seat and Eugene purposefully mis-navigated Rosita so they'd end up at the end of the tunnel Glenn and Tara were going through. If they hadn't been there there would have been no cavalry w/ guns blazing to save Glenn and Tara from their predicament. And Maggie might have passed right on by - she couldn't have known Glenn was in there -  had there not been a car there with three people in it to get her attention.  If I recall correctly, Rosita was mad and asked Eugene why he led them back there and he said something to the effect of "because we still have to live with ourselves when this is all over".

Anyone who has survived this long must have some sort of skill. Eugene's happens to be subterfuge. I like Eugene. I like the funny way he talks and his awkwardness and his ability to admit he's no fearless hero. False bravado will get you killed in this world.

A resounding "YES!" to this post and the others it quoted. This was my favorite episode of TWD in a long time.

  3. I've only seen these first 2 episodes OnDemand, but I'm a total sucker for any kind of show like Hustle and am thoroughly enjoying this one so far.  It's definitely smarter than a lot of the other Bravo shows I'm following!

  4. Something I missed last night, but realized this AM -- Coraline is a story about a child who's fooled by something that originally positions itself as an ideal mother, but is in fact incredibly treacherous. Chloe reading the story to her daughter, keeping her promise to Trixie and making them both happy in an honorable way, is the direct opposite of how Charlotte's continued presence affects her children. I feel like we're getting a lot of clues about how Charlotte is bad news. We've already seen that angels can be complacent and self-centered. Who knows what Mom is capable of?

Good catch! I love all the levels this show operates on. It's my absolute favorite current show, and if it were on Hulu or Netflix like @storyskip mentioned, I'd have binge-watched the whole season by now

I had to jump out of lurking to ask if anyone else who grew up in the 80s thought that Alex's dress (although in a different color) would have fit right in with any movie club scene or music video?

Yes, I can definitely vision that - but cannot think of one specific movie or scene.  I was late teens/early twenties in the 80's and had a BLAST, so the memory-specifics from that period may have been eradicated!

YAAAAS! I think that's the beauty of @Shannon L.'s observation - you could pop that dress into pretty much any 80s movie club scene, and it would fit right in. I really don't think you'd even need to change the color.

  6. Why are tacky sequined pieces scattered on a garment now considered high fashion on this show?  If that's on trend, then my mother's senior center will be holding fashion week soon. QVC reference, it's Quacker Factory!!!

Alex was always too insufferable in his talking heads, but he did have a classy exit. Too bad Nathalie is still there, that top looked like road kill.

Those handmade sequined embellishments (or whatever Erin uses) that are apparently so fashion forward just look like someone bedazzles her clothes. I don't get it!

  7. Wouldn't it have been better for the participants to have done the naked truth (?) exercise with a trusted friend before they got married to a stranger?  You know, to avoid giving the impression/making those same mistakes with their new spouses.

Nick needs to ask Sonia to move back in, rather than telling her it's the logical thing to do.  That said, Sonia: move back in.

I thought it was interesting that Heather was "allowed" to even hint about Derek expecting something physical early on and that being a source of their problems. I wonder if that was an even bigger problem for her than the smoking- and they edited her comments about smoking and the one comment about gambling in order to distract the audience from the sex issue.

At this point I trust NOTHING that I see on this show.  Why couldn't they just be honest with us and show us what really happens with these folks good bad or ugly???  It would be so much better!

YESSSSS....I caught that.  That was one of the board's theories about what we felt must have been missing stuff that went on off camera between Heather and Derek to piss her off so much that the show never breathed a word about.  Derek must have come on to her in a very bad way after she had already friend-zoned him and let him know about it, but whiny douche that he is he probably didn't give up and got really ugly when she didn't give in.

I saw from the beginning that Heather was uncomfortable with the way Derek was immediately very demonstrative. Would she have been less uncomfortable if she found him more attractive? Quite possibly. But given how he didn't seem to pick up on her 'step back, slow down' vibes, I can definitely see him assuming she'd be more open to touching on their honeymoon "We're a married couple!" than she was "I don't know you, don't touch me!".

Also. Sonia: listen to your gut. Nick is not the man to trust with your romantic dreams.

  9. For this specific challenge, I was very surprised that they didn't take better advantage of the Real Women who appeared as the challenge brief was presented.

There was a missed opportunity when the show used the usual fashion models to show the clothes, AND to choose the winner-loser designer. As many people have mentioned gorgeous young size 2 models are not "every woman", but they would present enough of an equal base for the clothes to be be initially judged winner/loser/safe.

Why not - AFTER the judges have made that initial call - give the top and bottom designers a second day to reproduce their looks on 2 additional /very different/ types of women (petite/tall, millenial/senior, different 'problem areas' to camoflage)? That way, the final decision of who wins and who goes home could be based on the actual challenge - a garment that could look good on most women (vs. Heidi and Nina's fantasy Everywoman). I think the judge would definitely have more of a basis for their final decisions.

  10. There were several runway outfits I would have loved when I was in college -- in the 1980s.

I thought the exact same thing! The giant bow at the neck of a silky blouse? 80's workwear staple for looking more grownup. The trapeze dress? I wore it in cotton, but I also had matching bikeshort bloomers - made the outfit.

  11. I'm still not believing Nick and Sonia had sex.

I think what she said was taken out of context and the producers are trying another "cliff hanger". They did it last year with David and Ashley at the reunion show.

However, I am willing to make a bet with someone who thinks they did have sex.

Loser of the bet has to buy a Section 8 Yacht Club shirt!

I will NOT take that bet.

But, I wonder: is it possible that the reason Nick went from being somewhat attracted to Over It is because they /did/ have intercourse (or some other intimate act) and it wasn't good for him? Like, he had hope that there would be more of a spark even if they hadn't had instant chemistry, but after trying it's really not something he feels like any amount of work would or could improve?

Yeah, maybe not for others, but I'd like it. But I'm someone who, according to my my sister, would eagerly watch a documentary about a button factory, so...

I also would like to see less backstage personality drama, and more technique and technical details about tatoo art and the specific tattoos being inked.  I'm a sucker for any show that gives a glimpse into experts at the top of their field showing the work behind their excellence.   I also love seeing how everyday things we take for granted are produced.   So, come on over to my place with your documentary about buttons @TattleTeeny! :-D

I get the impression that series has not been renewed (I agree that the name "Braindead" may be partly at fault, but also the sci-fi element, the political theme, and the sophistication may have alienated a huge market share, appealing to too narrow of a niche audience), and with two eps left, the writers have lost interest.

Agreed.  But, it's a narrow niche audience made up of...me!  And my niche is doomed to be constantly teased by awesome summer shows that go away too soon.
