  1. I thought this was an interesting take on the Juan and Robyn situation.

    Quote

"He’s the one buying hotel rooms for women who aren’t his wife. He’s the one who cheated on her when she was at home with small children. And he’s the one who told the world he was only with her for the kids.

Like, give me a break. If you have to be mad at someone, Juan seems like a logical place to put your anger.

Is it that hard to understand why someone wouldn’t be ready to disclose that they’d been betrayed by their partner? Especially since she’s already been so candid about the previous issues in their relationship.

Also, Robyn is hardly the first housewife to take a beat before disclosing infidelity or troubles in their marriage.

Real Housewives of New York, Ramona Singer refused to discuss allegations that her husband had cheated on her during the taping of the season 6 reunion. Sure, Andy Cohen was annoyed, but she hardly got the Robyn treatment.

On Real Housewives of New Jersey, Jennifer Aydin waited years to disclose that her husband, Bill Aydin, cheated on her during the early years of their marriage.

And you know what, I’m not mad at them about it. It is honestly ok for the occasional thing to be private, especially when people’s families are involved."

But Juan broke. He might be losing his job.

Juan isn't quite broke. Some public reports are that he is making as low as $100k, but if you look at the other coaches in the league he plays in (MEAC) they are all in the $200-300k range. He's bringing in enough money that he could support that family in Baltimore County, even if Robyn were a stay at home mom. My guess is that between them they are making $750k+ annually.

I'm not sure where most of the Ravens players live but their facility is in Owings Mills, a good 30 minutes away from the hotel outside of BWI. If she was flying down to get it in with the Ravens player, why not Uber it out to a hotel in Owings Mills? Or a hotel closer to the stadium in Baltimore? Why are you staying at the hotel 15 minutes from where Robyn & Juan live?

See this was the only thing I did believe about this story. If a woman is "dating" a Ravens player AND talking to Juan, odds are she is a professional sidepiece. That being the case, the FB player wants her the distance of plausible deniability, not 5 minutes away from the facility where any of his co-workers, their wives or girlfriends who might be in the area could spot his car in the hotel parking lot.

Having said that "Juan felt sorry for her" is high-school levels of ridiculousness.

I also noticed all the parents have outdated homes. They are all big houses but no updates, old kitchens with builder grade appliances, crappy formica countertops and finishes. Yet they spend millions on weddings. Just an observation.

This seems weird to me. Usually, those kinds of upgrades occur when you are preparing to sell your home or when something big breaks or needs replacement. I would think that yes, you'd want to help pay for a wedding that is enjoyed by your entire family and community which celebrates the couple, their union and culture before you'd switch to marble countertops or that Viking stove. Food prepared on formica tastes exactly the same...

I have seen a lot of support for Nicholas on Reddit and a lot are calling Amrit out for being whiny and self-involved

it’s weird that Anisha was in a 10 year relationship and no one met him. What was her rationale then?

Maybe I missed something, but I thought when the series started that Anisha had recently moved back home from NYC. She was also single at that point. So if she met her boyfriend while she was living on the other end of the country and she wasn't living in FL or around these folks, the only way they would have met would be if either, they came to NYC and hung out with her or if she brought this mystery man home. In either event, it could be happenstance, especially since her parents and grandparents seem to have met this prior suitor.

As for now, I feel like this is where reality tv and reality collide. She made it clear on WWHL and in the Holi discussion with Amrit and VIshal that she was protective of her partner's privacy and the impact appearing on the show might have on him. It also seemed like he wasn't excited about appearing either. I feel like viewers take reality tv stars to task for accepting and respecting their family members requests for privacy rather than understanding that not everyone wants to appear on tv. I know one of the doctors on Married to Medicine used to get crap for not including her middle son in the show, when in actuality he said that he did not want to film. We viewers should respect that and let it go. If this guy wants people to know who he is, he can out himself on social media.

Other than Mia, I don’t think any of these women are trashy, so, I’m not understanding why they seem to be trying to come across that way this season.  Except Candace.  She really hasn’t participated in the trashy.

Another thing is, ageism is a real thing.  Karen is 59. Do we really believe men are lining up to have sex with her?

Maybe not 59 year old men, but there are a bunch of old men looking for anyone younger. She could easily snag a 65 year old and have a man that's still young and vibrant.

  7. Did anyone watch the new show about the guy who runs Asher House? It came on Saturday on Animal Planet following Dr. Jeff. He's moved from just rescuing dogs to adding farm animals now that he's got the big property.

He came off as a bit awkward in trying to keep an hour-long show going. His personality which works well on the 2 to 3-minute Instagram reels, wasn't as compelling and other than the woman who works with him, they didn't really have other people that were part of the show. It's just him and the animals. I'm interested to see how this works out in the long run once he (and the animals) gets used to being followed by a full crew every day.

I’m a little confused about the financial part of Jen’s sentence - approx 6.5 million of forfeiture, 6.5 million of restitution. Does the forfeiture create the funds for restitution? If not, and there are not approximately 13 million of assets, which gets priority?

I was glad to see the conversations at the end of the episode between Heather, Meredith and Lisa. It showed that they were capable of thinking and acting like adults. I don’t remember whether Whitney was there with them. She may have been busy processing the abuse she doesn’t remember.

My reading of it is that the government has already identified assets worth approximately $6.5m. Based on my rudimentary knowledge of forfeiture, they have to identify those assets when they move against them. So that would include any real estate Jen paid (or partially paid) for, real property such as cars, jewelry, stocks, retirement accounts, etc. As for coach and the other family members that may have paid, anything he paid into would still need to be sold and they would then be paid out for their share. I'm not sure if they are given the opportunity to purchase/payback the item first (for example if she provided the downpayment on a home that was 25% of the value, would the 75% owner be permitted to pay the government for the value of the 25% before it gets put on the auction block). I do know that the government does not give the spouse/kids a break on the custodial home. They tell you to get out by x date and if you are not, the Marshall shows up to evict you.   I'm also not sure how it works if they sell something for more than it was valued. I think that if it is partially owned the excess money is split with the other owner, but if it is owned only by the criminal, all additional money goes towards paying your debt off.

In Jen's case, once they have taken/sold all the items seized she will still have a separate $6.5 million bill she has to pay. That bill follows her until it is paid in full. Da' Brat talks about her arrest for assault and the resulting $1M in restitution the court imposed upon her as part of a civil judgment. She's said she could be paying it off for the rest of her life, which is why she's trying to maximize the amount of work she is doing now. She realized while serving time in jail, that she might be in a position of having to work into her 80's or 90's to continue paying against that debt. Jen's number is unfathomable in her current circumstance.

As for Coach, I don't think those conversations mean that he had knowledge in advance. The reality is very few spouses leave when their partners are accused of heinous things. Hell, even when there are scandals directed at the spouse (infidelity being the big one), people stay and try to "work through it". I think it's unrealistic to expect that her husband would pick up, move out, take the kids and leave her alone, especially if they had no real marital issues up to that point. Coach strikes me as being principled, and that translates into sticking with his wife, especially if he believes that she is worthy and capable of redemption. It is that "love the sinner, hate the sin" attitude that so many religious folks have.

I guess they are deciding to abandon their professional careers in order to ride the Bravo train, much like the Southern Charm group. It appears many of them can fall back on their parents financially.

I worry about Nicholas being a house husband the same way I worry about women who don't work. It's an admirable choice to be a fulltime parent if one can afford it (as are choices to work), but it's risky to abandon professional growth, not to mention a retirement account and Social Security contributions. My close friend in her 60s is facing these consequences now because of a divorce.

I wonder if Nicholas choice also has something to do with being in FL. While there are pockets where being gay is acceptable, the vast majority of the state isn't gay friendly, and that is doubly true in school settings. As he's on a show where he is openly and unapologetically gay, finding a school that is comfortable with his "lifestyle" may be difficult.

If she's so rich and bougie and always asking for champagne (and that's RHOC's Heather's thing, and much more believable) why is she always so poorly dressed? When they were in the beach she had Walmart leggings and a Target white t'shirt, everyone else was in trendy bathing suits, even Gizelle didn't look so bad, pink definitely suits her. Charrisse is always mumbling her words and always appears bored or sleepy. If she's the real queen of Potomac she needs to be dethroned.

See I think this is a huge part of Charrisse's issue. She was smaller when she was last on and had the wardrobe of a coach's wife. Now she's got her full post-menopause body and has the wardrobe of a divorced mom of grown kids. Again, she's angling for "I'll get cast then come back with a vengeance." In the meantime, she's without glam or a stylist to help her, thus her Gap basic summer looks.

Doesn't Thomas have custody most of the time?

They will be fine materially at least if they live with him.

But if she gets partial custody and the kids have to live in some dingy apt., not so great for them.

Thomas is a convicted drug dealer with his own drinking/drub issues. The fact that he's less screwed up than Katherine does not mean that those kids will be fine. I think they rolled snake eyes in the craps game of life, and at best they are going to be raised in an environment that's somewhat challenging - maybe not financially, but certainly morally.

  12. I don't see how you can blame the Karen/Charisse dynamic on Monique. She's been off the show for a couple of years, and even if she did spill to Karen things that were said, Cha-Cha said them. I think that Karen has always had an over-inflated sense of her own importance and in the Mocha Moms/Jack & Jill/ D9/ Links world, she's probably used RHOP as a way to justify her place in the pecking order. Neither Charisse or Karen were born into those circles, nor did they get there through their professional achievements or business acumen. Both are women of a certain age who desperately want to be on the top of the pecking order, who's major claim to fame prior to this show was marrying well and this is their one desperate shot at relevancy. Charisse would see a huge come up if she could land a gig that paid $300-400k per year and that is exactly what those Bravo check would do. I don't hate her for it, but because she has nothing else going on in her life, expect fully that a return to RHoP would mean more houseware lines, the launching of a signature champagne brand, or a some manufactured for the show drama with Karen as she doesn't have an interesting life/work to share. Being an empty nester does not make you interesting in an of itself.

Watched it, loved it. So much better than the initial iterations of this program (the California football school notwithstanding). I like Mosley, too, he seems to have a grip on what he's up to and what role he plays for the kids. He's never once told a kid "you'll be playing in the NBA if you play for me," he is more focused on getting them to listen and succeed and grow.

Yes, and while many of the kids still harbor unrealistic expectations, it's nice that he's talking about ALL their options (D2, D1AA, and D1 schools are all in the mix for his kids) and not just trying to get them into a few schools that he's got connections to. I loved that he wanted to put his autistic player in a school that would coach to his needs and not simply one that was looking for a big man. And it was great seeing Coach Rob, a man who was literally living off of gigs so he could coach at the college level, finally getting his own team - and one that pays him to work! While I was still scared about how out of touch some of the kids were with the reality of their circumstances, overall, this version doesn't make you feel dirty for watching it.

*Juan's biological father is still alive; he was on an episode in a past season (season 4, 5 or 6).

The story was Juan didn't discover his bio dad was his dad until a few years ago. Robin was already on tv and the story was big in the Baltimore papers. Up until that point he believed that the man who called himself his dad was actually his biological father. There was a big story on it for "Real Sports", and my recollection was that Juan was already coaching at the college level when this all went down. And yes, since then his dad has appeared on a couple of episodes.

I thought Juan met "the love of his life" while he was playing on Europe. I don't think he chased her there. Robyn and the boys stayed in the States since he wasn't making baller money. At that point, they probably needed her check.

The story was that he met the woman here in the states. She also had (a) kid (s??), who she left behind when she moved to Europe to live with Juan. At the time he and Robyn were still together, and she didn't find out about the woman until he was already in Europe shacked up. It clearly didn't work out, and when that season was over, he moved back to the states and back in with Robyn.

As much as I’m not a huge fan of Candiaces music, at least of you go see her perform she’s doing something. I don’t understand the point of a live show of a housewife just being a housewife. It looked lame.

I'm assuming this is not a copy of Robin and Gizzelle's live podcast show, but a copy of the Countess' (RHONY) cabaret show. Both have no talent, but Karen seems to recognize her shortcomings and is therefore limiting her singing and dancing.

  16. I don't see the lack of college money as strange. One thing I've come to see as I've become an adult is that Gen Xer's who come from families that were not of means, usually ended up going to school on some combination of loans, scholarships, work study, etc at a point where college could be paid for with a part-time job and small supplemental funding. Many of them were able to pay their way through school and graduated with debt (but not the crushing debt their kids are experiencing). While they may have become solidly middle-class, many did not save for their kids (AT ALL), I think in no small part because it never occurred to them that their kids wouldn't be able to do the same thing they did.

I've seen this in my own family, and among friends where the concept of saving was not prioritized. By contrast, my friends who had families with even small amounts of inheritance, and gifting from older generations to younger, tend to repeat that with their own kids.

  17. Here's the real question someone should ask Gizelle "When did you start feeling uncomfortable being in a room alone with a married man? Has this always been your policy or was there something specific that caused you to have this concern?"

Because my bet is that she has this "issue" only when it's convenient to her. She isn't pulling a Mike Pence and either bringing someone to every meeting she takes with someone who's married or in the alternative refusing to meet if she can't be guaranteed that some third party will be there. I guarantee that she meets with the male on-set producers on her own all the time.

What was she spending all of her stolen Granny money on then? They apparently don’t have any real assets.

Well, it looks like she's agreed to forfeit $6.5 million, which I'm guessing is every single penny that she and Coach had between them. So, she had something that they attached, froze or confiscated. I believe the $9 million restitution is on top of that, but someone who has read the documents can correct me if I'm wrong.

    Fact check:

Okay, so as a professor myself I am completely aware that academia still leans toward being a white men's club and has major issues with diversity. So, I'm sure that Johns Hopkins is a very white, male space and that Wendy is oftentimes the only POC or WOC in the room.

That said, can it really be true that Wendy is the only Black female professor at Johns Hopkins?? I'm genuinely curious. And how can it be true that she's the youngest professor there entirely??

A little searching led me to the Black Faculty and Staff Association at JHU. It's clear that there are other female professors at the university. But given their low numbers in terms of membership on the executive board, it's possible that she is the only BF in her school or concentration. And as for being the youngest, that seemed possible.

Then I found this on Reddit. It's a no on both counts. According to Reddit, there are 9 others in her department and she isn't the youngest of them.

I am so angry that they keep pushing back her sentencing date!  In the real world (former prosecutor here), a convicted felon in federal court, facing over a decade of prison time, would be “stepped back”, i.e. - incarcerated, pending their sentencing date.  Because once you plead guilty you are a convicted felon!!!  Only the very rich and/or politically connected get time to “get their affairs in order” or enjoy the holidays with their family.  Which is also a bunch of bullshit, but don’t even get me started on the inequities in our justice system 🙄.

Why this Z list celebrity is getting special treatment is beyond me.  Her incarceration can’t come soon enough for me.

I don't think she is getting special treatment. There was a long time between the guilty verdict for Keith Raniere of NXIUM and his sentencing. While his case was the Eastern District (Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island) and Jen is the Southern District (Manhattan, Bronx and Staten Island), I think they both had the same issues around moving cases quickly after disposition post-pandemic. Trust me, no one in NYC is doing favors for a "Z list celebrity".

Have no idea who CGEM Talent is, but they are representing Jen Shah in all areas.

What does that mean? Does CGEM represent talent that works in all the various areas in the prison? So if she ends up working in the prison library, cafeteria, sanitation, etc. CGEM has her covered.

This is probably to represent her in any deals with Dateline, future tell-alls about the HWs, documentaries about life behind bars, etc. She's going to need to fund her restitution somehow...
