  1. Unpopular opinion here, but I really didn't have any issue with Melissa taking up for her daughter's lack of attendance at the Sweet 16. She had a cheer competition the same day out of state which she committed to attending. Why does that become "she chose to not come to her cousin's sweet 16"? Teens often have those kinds of conflicts and at least in my family, a prior commitment was just that - a commitment.  For all we know the daughter really wanted to be there and was disappointed that she couldn't attend.

In any event, Melissa is right to want to keep her daughter's motivations and feelings off-camera and not subject to the speculation by a ton of random adults on the Internet. I don't think encouraging kids to live out their lives as entertainment for others is the healthiest thing. Let those girls resolve their stuff among themselves, especially as teen feelings are known to be fleeting when it comes to who is mad at whom for what.

  2. I finally started watching this. A few mind-blowing revelations:

    • It looks like the settlement that Alliah's family entered into resulted in their getting ownership of his publishing rights for his first three albums. That explains why the family has been silent for all these years.
    • It was really interesting watching the commentary between the woman and her friend when she claimed that "Robert isn't a bad person, he just does bad things. I wish he would get the help he needs".
    • There are clearly people who are continuing to benefit from this including those members of his inner circle that have managed to stay out of jail, and the attorney who has clearly been making bank representing R.

Real talk: neither Micah nor Irina is pretty enough to be this bitchy, and neither is as pretty as they think they are. Micah is basic and looks older than her age and Irina is pretty plain-looking. Ugh. Just awful people.

Both of them are showing glimpses of their middle-aged mom faces, and it ain't pretty. Micah should have stayed away from the lip fillers. And Irina needs to lay-off the alcohol as she always looks a bit bloated and like she's masking a huge hangover. As young as these women are, they should still appear fresh faced and dewy and neither of them do.

So why would Randolph be at the scene of some random "hit and run" or offer to help a family who didn't really seem to know who Randolph even was.

They knew Randolph. He was the attorney representing Steven's father in a worker's comp case. The family was suspicious because Randolph called the father from the scene and offered to represent the family for free in a civil lawsuit. After the fact, the family didn't understand 1) why Randolph was at the scene; and 2) why he believed that there was a basis for a civil case. The families were not friends, and other than the worker's comp case they didn't interact or have any direct involvement. Sandy Smith (Stephen's mom) and the sister both said that the family would not have reached out to Randolph to represent them, if they had decided to sue someone.

So, from Randolph's side, he's got this story "They were my client in this other matter which is why I was representing them", but the family never understood why he volunteered or what he was doing at the accident scene. After everything played out they determined this was something sketchy.

I can't believe Kandi actually thought SWV would settle for second billing after Xscape.  She acted like SWV was some unknown group trying to make it.  Like Coko said, "I sold 30 million records bitch!"  Kandi needs to take several seats as far as I'm concerned.  Her munchkin voiced self is talking to sistahs who actually have voices.

I took this as Kandi doing her business thing and living out the credo, "You'll never get it if you don't ask for it". I assumed Kandi knew they didn't deserve top billing, but she also wanted to be on the record on national tv that Xscape gets top billing on concerts. It's about how future promoters approach her.

I would not be surprised if Robyn and Gizelle have a falling out next season. It would be a storyline for both of them. Almost all housewife bff’s get in a fight at some point. I’m guessing Robyn will return to get called out over and over by Karen, Wendy and possibly Candiace. Now if Robyn and Gizelle do fall out, I could see Candiace being team Robyn.

I hope everyone returns except Mia. She lies and acts trashy for the sake of being trashy.

But who would film with Gizelle? Only Ashley would be sitting on her couch at that point, because Karen, Wendy, Candiace and Robyn would be on one side. Gizelle is savvy enough to know that Ashley and (possibly) Mia isn't much of a team. Now if Charisse was staying around I could see it. but without her or some new sycophant, Gizelle definitely would have team throw-you-under-the-bus which she would never be okay with.

Exactly. And then he positions himself as being "shocked" when she says things that he is well aware of

  8. The "HBCU experience" is about being in a classroom that is often full of other people of color, being instructed by people of color and where the curriculum often includes a focus on how what is being taught impacts communities of color. In a degree for public health, that would not be the same at a UGa or Emory. While the social side of attending an HBCU often gets highlighted, people often lose sight of the fact that there may be substantial differences the kinds of education you receive when it is taught through that prism, especially if you are looking to provide services in and to those same communities of color. Doctors are still practicing with disturbing beliefs about physical differences in patients of color.

    Quote

Several years ago, researchers at the University of Virginia, including Dr. Oliver, probed the beliefs of 222 white medical students and residents and published results in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Science. Half held false physiological beliefs about African-Americans. Nearly 60 percent thought their skins were thicker, and 12 percent thought their nerve endings were less sensitive than those of white people.

The medical students and residents who endorsed false beliefs like these were more likely to rate the pain of a black patient as less severe than that of an otherwise identical white patient and less likely to recommend treating black patients’ pain.

All the medical students and residents with these beliefs went through schools where they were not taught that there is no difference in pain or skin thickness based solely on the color of one's skin. So, there may have been completely valid professional reasons for choosing the Meharry program. I am in agreement with you that they should have worked harder to identify someone who could help in the home, but I also recall that there were 1-2 young ladies that were babysitters/tutors/etc. that were shown during that season as well.

I didn't mind her for going a back to school - something that alot of us have to consider ( classes, certifications) at middle career  - I was mostly upset about the where . No, no boo - take your educated tail downtown to GA State or a county over to Emory and get all of the degrees you want/need. I would have given her a better pass if she drove an hour+ to UGA. I think if she paid more attention to her career and family - that fitness competition bullsh*t would have never came about - why not do something that all DRs preach to their patients - just 30 min of exercise a day....That is something your children can be proud of - mommy doing a 5k - clothed.

She went to Meharry which is the number two medical school for black doctors in the US.

    Quote

Meharry is the second-largest educator of African-American medical doctors and dentists in the United States.[7] It has the highest percentage of African Americans graduating with Ph.Ds in the biomedical sciences in the country.[8]

Sure, she could have gone to a local school, but perhaps she wanted the experience of attending an HBCU. Also keep in mind that the medical community for black doctors isn't very large. I'm sure she was well known in ATL, and perhaps didn't want to be taught by people that she had already worked with/associated with as colleagues.

I'm not going to hate on her simply because she chose to be educated at an HBCU vs a PWI

I will be the first to admit that Mandy can take it a bit personally.   BUT, she and Liz Farrell started investigating this family ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE BOAT CRASH when no one else would.   They were even warned to back off for their safety.   Mandy started this podcast on her kitchen table because it was so important to get the story out there.  It was too much for the little old Island Packet where she was working at the time to devote the space and time it needed.   But she kept at it.   She worked her sources and unlike a lot of journalists who swooped in only covered the big stuff - she has not been wrong about what she reported.   It is SOLID.   They don't put stuff out there unless 1) relevant and 2) verified.   They aren't in the click bait business.

Dick Harpootlian HATES her because she won't let the Good Ol' Boys be Good Ol' Boys anymore.   He likes to refer to her as a "blogger who sells dog bowls."   Oh BTW, 100% of the proceeds of the merch goes to CHARITY.   Her holding people accountable with good old fashionable investigative journalism is one of the reasons Alex even went to trial.   So if she wants to take a victory lap of relief, she can.

I've listened since the first episode.  There are a few times where she gets worked up and gets all "I WILL NOT LET THIS REST."  Like who the hell are you?   But, if you ignore that stuff and just listen to how she puts all the pieces of Alex's shenanigans together its really good.   She was the one who found out that Judge Carmen Mullen just allowed the Gloria Satterfield personal injury case to be closed without filing the order.   At the request of .... Alex Murdaugh and Cory Fleming  (Cory's trials are still upcoming).

Stick with it for more than an episode or two.  It's worth it.

I agree. Folks should definitely listen from the beginning in order. It also helps create an understanding about her current level of anger/frustration/etc. She came to realize pretty quickly that the problem was Alex or Alex/Corey or Alex/Corey/Russell. It's the way corruption and self-dealing has become normalized in the low country, and the fact that they people that are held up as being the pillars of the community are all focused around scratching each other's backs to assure they remain wealthy and in power. The average person kicked out of law school for cheating would not have been able to come back after a semester time out. The average person arrested for DWIs would have been fingerprinted, processed and had mug shots taken. The average person would not have been able to overdraft their account for $100k with no adverse actions. It gives a whole new meaning to the documentaries when you hear the kids talk about how the Murdaugh's were "up here" and they were "down here" and it's heartbreaking.

I'm sort of at the end of my rope with this show focusing so much of its time on really obscure things like psychedelics when there are so many other important things going on. I realize this is a deliberate choice and that John wants to highlight the stories that aren't being told, but dammit. He's just so skilled at nailing the really big stuff like the Fox News lawsuit and the train derailment that it drives me nuts they just get glossed over for a main story I don't give a damn about. I feel like he's wasting his talent.

I think that the wheelhouse for this show is things that SHOULD be important that people are not talking about. We have a rampant mental health crisis in the US following the pandemic, and rather than simply shrugging every time some elderly person gets attacked in the street for no reason, or someone gets pushed in front of a train, or a new school shooting occurs, we should absolutely be talking about whether there is value to exploring the use of psychedelics and the possible repercussions for allowing Big Pharma to stake a claim in this space. Whether its bail reform, CRT, tort liability, police training or medical debt, these are all critical issues which NO ONE is covering, and which need to be discussed.

The show seems to veer away from things like Russiagate, January 6th, and other topical controversies that will be covered by "real" journalists. The LWT deep dives always make me think, and I believe there is real value to that.

I just mentioned in the reunion thread that if Chris is so squeaky clean, why would he lose gigs? This was reality show gossip. Now if his employer frowns upon him being on a reality show, that can be a problem.

He's in the hospitality industry. Legitimate food and beverage companies do not want to hire employees with histories of inappropriate behavior, especially when they are going to be responsible for overseeing events where liquor will be served. Plenty of people who do not watch reality tv use Google, and if you Google Chris' name, first thing that comes up is all of the reality tv stuff. His cooking, blog, youTube, etc. is several pages down.

Yeah, I don’t see Candiace as winning anything. It looks like her husband is crying about losing work due to the Gizelle and Ashley accusations  in the reunion preview. But if he was so squeaky clean, why would he be losing work?

Because people don't want to work with someone who has multiple accusations of inappropriate behavior with women. It's a "where there's smoke there's fire" attitude. Why do you find this narrative hard to believe?

At the end of the day, Candiace and Wendy are so pissed about Gizelle's position in this specifically because the multiple, made up, then exaggerated claims do have real world impacts. At least with Ashley, one can look to the motivation of "your husband was poorly treated, so you want to get back by treating another husband the same way." But in Gizelle's case her position was "you did something, I felt a certain way about it, I didn't say anything at the time, and so now that you know you should apologize for making me feel that way". She knew that Chris did not say anything inappropriate or do anything other than STAY IN A ROOM TO HAVE A PRIVATE DISCUSSION AFTER REALIZING THAT NO ONE ELSE WAS THERE. GIzelle's ole' "every man tries me ass" could have easily said "this is a bad look, let's step out in the hallway" or "let me call Robyn and tell her to come up here" but she 1) didn't do the adult thing at the time 2) didn't do the adult thing later when she realized she "felt a way" 3) didn't do the adult thing when she saw Candiace or Chris multiple times before the season started and 4) didn't do the adult thing after the cameras rolled. At every turn she chose to act like a wounded damsel in distress and for someone who claims to be smart and accomplished, acting like she has no agency is a ridiculous look.

  14. A couple of things I've been mulling over. I went back and watched the whole Karen and Robyn discussion in Mexico about Juan's infidelity, and I wonder if Robyn thought that Karen was about to spill the beans about the Canadian goose? The whole thing is far more interesting when you know that 1) that woman had been reaching out to cast members to share her dirt, and 2) Robyn was well aware of the goose and was halfway through the season keeping that story under wraps. Thinking the story was coming out explains why she pulled out the blue-eyes picture and why she called Juan on camera. She absolutely wanted his denials on the record.

Another thing I spotted on a second watch was Wendy making the point to Ashley that when they (Wendy, Ashley, Candiace) hang out off-camera everyone has a good time, so why can't they be friends? So, it does appear that Wendy and Candiace socialize at least some away from the group. My guess is that it would be more if they were at similar points in their lives (either both childless or both with kids)

  15. It's interesting to me that this continues to be positioned as a Robyn problem and not a Juan problem. Robyn isn't holding Juan hostage. He didn't have to 1) propose or 2) get remarried, and the fact that he did both of those things while very clearly behaving as if he didn't want to do either of them speaks to some super deep level of cognitive dissonance. Comments continue to be made that Juan's cheating is Robyn's issue. Her only issue is not being clear that she'd rather be a wife to a half-faithful Juan than single.

At the same time, I'm wondering why any woman would walk around in branded paraphernalia with a known philanderer.  He clearly keeps picking women that also don't have a ton of discretion or self-esteem.

In earlier seasons she talked about being a floral sales exec, and then we heard her boyfriend say he is in floral sales. In other words, she worked for him. Send Bali, dragging her desperate pink monstrosity of a dress, to KY and let's hear no more about her.

I don't think this is the case. I believe Bali's family is in floral sales. There was a scene earlier in the season where Bali was trying to get her mom's attention while the mother was working to ask about a dress she was taking to the wedding. Bali was chastising her mom for selling rainbow flowers/balloons to someone and said that they were tacky. She commented on the fact that her mother was in floral sales and that she always called her clients something like "dearest" or "sweetie". I think it was the family business, Bali was employed in it, and then has also worked elsewhere in the industry.

Oh that is even more complicated.    Someone showed up claiming to be an investigator working the case and asked for the laptop.   Sandy, being a trusting person who DESPERATELY wants someone to find out what happened to her son, handed it over.   It has never been seen again.

However, it turns out the investigator was a PI hired by Parker (not the Parker of PMPD) who owns the liquor store chain where Paul bought booze the night of the boat crash.   He is being sued in the boat crash case.   So WHY he needed Stephen's laptop we do not know.   But it just shows EVERYTHING is weird.

The speculation is that Parker was looking at all of the Murdaugh related cases as a way to gain leverage and reduce his own liability. I believe he wanted to get out without having to pay anything and he was preparing to throw all of the allegations at Paul just being a bad guy out in court to see if any of it would stick. He would have used the rumors that Buster was involved with Steven and that Paul or Buster was directly involved in Steven's death to claim that Paul was mostly at fault and that he had a history of doing bad things and getting away with it. Another theory is that it was a deal between he and Alec to cover up anything that could be used by the Beach family in the trial to discredit Paul or Alec. Either way, the takeaway is that the rich guys were looking out for one another.

Watched this while working today. The biggest difference from the HBO documentary was the heavy focus on Mallory Beach, her relationships with her friends, the boating crash and the civil attorney’s investigation. We did get more insight into Paul but it wasn’t anything shocking just more confirmation that he was a spoiled brat who was a POS.

A shotgun and AR-15 was used in the murders of Maggie and Paul. I know it’s being reported that evidence shows Alex was at the scene when the murders happened, but the use of two guns makes me wonder if there were two shooters. Was it him and someone else? Or two people who’ve not been identified? I’m guessing it’d most likely be the former rather than the latter if there were indeed two shooters.

I wouldn’t have been suspicious of the housekeeper falling down the stairs until Alex lied about speaking to her about the fall before she was rushed to the hospital when he wasn’t there when the incident happened. Also, him taking out a commercial insurance policy a month before the incident then swindling her family out of the insurance money made her death highly suspicious.

I do wonder what happened to the millions of dollars he stole. He definitely didn’t spend all that money on drugs. He didn’t use it to paying bills cause apparently Maggie discovered that he wasn’t paying their bills. He didn’t use it all either to pay the guy whom he claimed to have hired to kill him. So where did the money go? Has there been an investigation to track where that money has went? Following the money will certainly provide some answers I think to many questions that have not yet been answered.

My understanding is that Maggie was shot in the back indicating that she was trying to get away. I'm trying to figure out even with all the hunting that went on at that property and among that family if they were so attuned to the sounds of close gunfire that whomever was the second one killed didn't suspect something was up.

As for the millions, my guess is that a sizeable amount of it went just to their lifestyle. My understanding is that they flew private anytime they traveled, they took lavish trips (the fishing trip that they took Mallory on, the final four, etc.), Maggie spent a ton of money on clothes and cars, and they had multiple homes - none of that is cheap.  Alec had managed to keep this whole house of cards afloat for over 20 years, but at some point, there are no more rabbits in this hat. The speculation has been that the Beach's civil suit was going to create a perfect storm - Alec/Paul was certainly going to be assessed with liability and would have to come up with money that they didn't have. At the same time, Alec couldn't tell anyone he was poor with the multiple houses, the cars, and all the conspicuous consumption.

As for the "other crimes", it's clear just from the issues with Palmento State Bank and the conservatorships that there was if not outright corruption, then certainly at least incompetence or lack of oversight. The fact that conservators were not being asked by the court to document anything, that the attorneys were outright lying about the state of their cases, and no one was saying or doing anything is a problem. And then, of course, the cozy relationship between the solicitor, state legislators, the university, etc. all create grounds for looking into just what the hell is going on in SC.

He didn't police her feeling and thoughts, he policed her words, that she directed towards him.  She said the wedding didn't feel like a real wedding.  If she said it only to Suresh in their bedroom, it wouldn't be a big deal.  She said it to the grooms, that was a faux pas.

The problem with his policing of her words was that he read into her words an intent that was not there. He projected his insecurities onto what she said, built up a head of righteous indignation then exploded all over Amrit first and then Lavina and Suresh. The proper way to respond would have been to start with the question "what do you mean", allow her to explain then police if necessary.

I was wrong Mandt Matney refused to be part of this doc too.  Because of how the documentary makes treated her and Sandy Smith.  Like they just existed to provide a good story.

I think this may have been what caused them to split from Fits News. I noted that Will Folks appears in this documentary. Also, that they cited Liz Farrell's reporting about Paul's favorable treatment when he was finally charged. But it also included the woman from the WSJ that Mandy Matney claims used her as a source then credited her as a "blogger" rather than an investigative journalist. So, yeah, she's not happy with these people either.

This version did include a LOT more than what was in the HBO Max series. The focus on Paul, his relationships with the other kids in the boat, his abuse of his girlfriend, and Alec and Maggie's nonchalant attitude towards his abuse of alcohol are all areas that I haven't heard a lot about before now.

Pasdetrois (voulez-vous dansez avec moi😉) - was Giselle really financially stable through her own efforts, prior to her Ho’wife gig?  Seems to me, it was the show that allowed her to move up (?) to her oddly designed, tackily decorated remodel, and before Andy, wasn’t she living off child support mainly?  Just curious ( plus I hate to give that destructive bitch undeserved praise.)

Gizelle worked for the NAACP prior to her HW gig. A very middle-income, middle management position which allowed her to live in the DC suburbs, but not a HW level of floss position at all. Off the show she got 1) her (short-lived) successful cosmetics line, 2) her podcast, 3) random acting and appearance gigs and 4) hosting that other (short-lived) Bravo chat show.

I am not at all a Candiace fan, but I don't think there is any evidence that this is true. Just because a child does not appear on the show, does not mean that they are being ignored by their parent. You don't know if 1) the kids decided not to participate in the show 2) the custodial parent decided not to allow the kids to participate in the show or 3) the kids filmed, but their interaction was edited out/was not used by the show.

And, Candiace had the hair business and Chris was working/has worked every season since they have been on the show. In fact, they argued about the fact that Chris was working 6-7 days a week and for extremely long hours. No signs that either of them don't work hard.

There aren't that many women of color who 1) fit into the HW demo and 2) don't mind famewhoring for Bravo. Think about it you have to:

    • Have significant/considerable/demonstrable wealth;
    • Not have a job or have a job where your appearance on the show will not be problematic;
    • Have a spouse whose job isn't going to give him a hard time for you appearing on the show;
