  1. I despise it when the show ignores its own history. Selina living off Catherine's largess is extremely annoying when it has been well established how rich Selina is. I read in a recap that the actress who portrays Sue, Sufe Bradshaw, had to take the year off for personal reasons.
  2. Jane http://tomandlorenzo.com/2017/04/big-little-lies-style-fashion-jane-shailene-woodle-hbo-costume-analysis/ And Bonnie http://tomandlorenzo.com/2017/04/big-little-lies-style-bonnie-zoe-kravitz-hbo-costume-analysis-fashion/
  3. Renata http://tomandlorenzo.com/2017/04/big-little-lies-style-fashions-hbo-renata-laura-dern-costume-analysis/#prettyPhoto
  4. Tome & Lorenzo on Celeste's costumes. http://tomandlorenzo.com/2017/04/big-little-lies-style-celeste-nicole-kidman-hbo-costume-analysis/ Very insightful. I first discovered their site through their Mad Men recaps and costume analysis, which was amazing.
  5. Tom & Lorenzo are starting costume analysis with Madeline's. http://tomandlorenzo.com/2017/04/big-little-lies-style-hbo-costumes-madeline-martha-mackenzie/
  6. Thanks for posting this link SusanSunflower. I'm curious as to what you and others think about the author's take. I felt like it was thoughtful, obviously intelligently written but also weirdly missing some marks. For example: I certainly didn't agree with some of the parenting going on in this series. But I can't say this was the MOST upsetting aspect of the series!
  7. Thank you for posting this link Athena. A great piece, very in depth and thoughtful. Nicole has had a fascinating career. (When it took me to Buzzfeed I figured it would be some sort of nonsense, tabloid fare. Now I realize I really knew nothing about Buzzfeed.)
  8. In my mind Max was alert to things going on whereas Josh was content to keep his headphones/distraction device on. I would bet anything both boys had heard stuff. Josh coped by not looking for anything and keeping the sound blocked. Max was apparently looking and listening, to some extent.
  9. It is fun to speculate on this blind. I looked at the IMDB for each actress and for whatever it's worth it seems Woodley and Kravitz have the least going on. But ZK does have a pretty big role I think in the next Fantastic Beasts so I could see her as the no. I think SW may be in a bit of a career stall since the Divergent series was so mediocre.
  10. Agree with your point that the dad would be one of the husbands but Jane met Nathan in the first episode and Gordon several episodes later. Not for sure which but they met at the principal's office for sure. Here is another cool piece about the costumes for Trivia Night. http://www.vulture.com/2017/04/big-little-lies-elvis-audrey-costume-guide.html
  11. Yes both guys sounded great! From Vulture:
  12. She was also in Mad Max: Fury Road. I've liked her in everything I've seen which are the roles mentioned here. She may never become a great actress but so far she's done solid work IMO.
  13. Yes I must agree that Nicole is the superior actress. Honestly the casting job is phenomenal because in every case the actress is able to play something of a version of herself, or perhaps her typical screen persona. And to me they are all so well suited for these roles and nailing them perfectly. However, the scenes between Nicole Kidman and Robin Weigert are at another level, practically mesmerizing and falling into the category of great performances. I hope they both receive some award recognition.
  14. Keepitmoving I enjoyed your post! I actually think Nathan showed his hand when he met Madeline with the dinner invitation. In that scene he clearly came across as the guy that's trying to be a better husband and father, but kind of hates everything about doing so. Plus he had a very honest interaction with Madeline that made me think he is keeping a lot of stuff bottled up in trying to be a 'great' guy for Bonnie.
  15. And that scene really reflected so poorly on the men, especially Gordon, and the gossipy women that portrayed Bonnie to the detectives, like you say, as if she were pole dancing or stripping or something. Honestly the most ridiculous think from Bonnie for me was that meeting in the principal's office. Her comment about Skye never condoning inappropriate touching (honestly I can't remember exactly what she said now) was absurdly over the top.
  16. I want to throw in here with you for Bonnie's character and ZK doing an excellent job. Maybe some posters here dislike her but I personally doubt most viewers hate her. Of course there's not way to be truly certain! I like Bonnie quite a bit more than Madeline and Renata because she is far less petty and way more self-assured. Sure she's got a more alternative vibe but that kind of appeals to me. I can at least relate to it whereas the back stabbing and status seeking nature of Madeline and Renata is thoroughly foreign to me. The characters are fascinating and entertaining - I like them too. Honestly one of the great things about this show is the variety of the women. They are all imperfect yet compelling people. However if I was going to be friendly with any of them I would probably choose Bonnie and Jane.
  17. Thanks for this link. I only wish it had been more detailed! I noticed this comment which is probably just a habit of the costume designer from working on other shows and is probably meaningless, but she did say:
  18. Personally I find Joseph the most attractive guy on this show, and my daughter tells me his real life accent is swoon worthy! But I do agree with your assessments about Nathan and Gordon. And I get what you mean about visualizing Perry. I've noticed he is often filmed from a slightly peculiar angle with his head a little tilted down or slightly sideways. Sometimes in that posture he comes off a little bit like an ashamed boy asking his mama's forgiveness.
  19. I believe you have described Abigail's core issues. My husband happened to watch the piano scene between Abigail and Madeline. When Chloe came in his take was that Abigail was hurt when Madeline turned her full attention to Chloe. She's basically changed homes and parents for a very similar family dynamic. Younger sister is preferred in her mind, and getting more attention. Then there is the ironic aspect that as a teenager she resent/loathes the adult attention that the inner 'little girl' desires.
  20. This is a funny speculation! I think if any character other than Perry dies it's going to be disappointing for me. After last night's episode I had some doubts about what would happen but essentially came back to believing that Perry will die. I think it will be accidental and in self-defense. I do think 2 or 3 of the women, presumably the mains, could all be involved but at least one of them. If I were to bet I'd put my money on Celeste. I get how this outcome is the most predictable but for me if something happens out of left field I don't think it would feel true to the narrative thus far. I'm really looking forward to the finale.
  21. Yes! I don't even see how they can wrap everything up. I thought for sure we would find out the victim tonight, but no. I kind of feel anything could happen now.
  22. I re-watched the first 5 episodes and noticed a detail that I'd missed the first time. In the second episode when the lead detective addresses the press she mentions that there may be additional charges of assault and conspiracy to assault (or something along those lines) and it occurred to me that it's possible that say Celeste and Jane are both involved in the killing. I can easily imagine a confrontation with Perry that could lead to such an outcome. Obviously not a premeditated conspiracy. I also think Jane's gun is not Chekhov's gun because the injuries described of the victim seem likely sustained from a fall. (Broken bones, skull damages, etc.) There may be a fight in which they end up pushing him off one of those gorgeous cliffs we keep seeing. Heck, Madeline could be involved as well.
  23. I thought in one of the conversations between Celeste and Perry she talked about leaving her home and moving here to be with him (in an effort to prove her love) that the implication was she came from another country, presumably Australia since it's her RL homeland. Obviously I could have been just putting my own spin on their conversation but I just assumed NK wasn't even really trying with the American accent because her character was born and raised someplace else. Yeah, that is pretty interesting if she has this coach. I've never really thought about her accent before. She's been in so many movies where she plays an American I figure she would have a good accent at the ready. I'm going to continue thinking of Celeste as born elsewhere, LOL.
  24. Yes I agree with you here. We've seen that every character and every relationship has some degree of turmoil but if it turns out that someone other than Perry is killed or was the killer the narrative will feel compromised. The show has done a good job of casting suspicion on basically all the main characters but only Perry truly fits the larger narrative. And I believe that one or both of the twins is definitely mirroring the parent's relationship with Amabella. And I thought it was interesting that Gordon tells Amabella that she needs to reveal this bully/tormentor because it wouldn't be right if another person is also being hurt. Celeste protects Perry yet he likely raped Jane and possibly others.
  25. In a clear parallel to Celeste's unwillingness to confront the truth about Perry's abusive, violent nature we are seeing Amabella unwilling to name her tormentor. She is undoubtedly feeling shame, as well as fear, just like Celeste. I'd lay money on one or both of the twin's being the bully/abuser. Celeste is in deep denial to ignore the consequences of the fighting to have had no effect on her kids. The show is pretty addictive! Fascinating from the first episode. I find my feelings about the characters changing frequently.
