  1. I'm a black male who watches some reality TV but I usually never watch the bachelor. Not a fan of the whole concept of the Bachelor and the Bachelorette a but I realize that I'm not the target audience. When I heard that they were going to have a Black male Bachelor I was interested but I didn't have much hope because I felt that it was either going to come off pandering or with a lot of fake drama. Turns out I was right on both counts. I figured I'd watch at least a few episodes. I kept watching because I felt that Matt was a good person and that he had a great pool of contestants to choose from. They were woman of all colors and ethnicities, beautiful talented and intelligent. Matts tastes are a little different form mine and I don't really think he is ready for marriage. Michelle and Bri were looking for something leading up to marriage and I think he knew he was indecisive so once he knew these girls actually loved him he let them go because he knew deep down he wasn't ready.. Serena wasn't sure about him so she bailed. Matt was way more into her than she was into him anyway. Regarding the Rachel stuff If I was Matt I would have broken up with her as well. Matt turned down women who actually loved him to be with someone who had a history of (I'm being charitable here) racial insensitivity. Later in life he will be thinking back to some of those women he let get away to be with Rachel. The fact that she didn't take down those Party pictures or some of the social media posts with the confederate flags, the MAGA hats, didn't try to get in front of the high school friends who outed her for bullying girls who liked black guys in high school etc. Shows me that she is probably not going to be sensitive to or ready to deal with issues of race that may come up in the relationship. She could have easily said hey in the past I wasn't open to dating black people and said somethings to girls' in school who did. that would have at least been way to work it out. It looks as though Matt didn't like what he heard form her after the posts came out about her in social media. I wouldn't be surprised if the producers knew about Rachels background and kept her anyway. They were more than happy to play up the whole controversy once it came though. They also were happy to have Chris step away. I'm sure their will be a ratings bump when he returns. I knew something was up when the Victoria character was there. There is no way in hell that she was on there to marry Matt. She seemed like a producer's plant to me. I couldn't deal with the contrived drama and Victoria was an obvious part of that. Through this season Matt was played like a fiddle. He seemed like an earnest Naïve guy who wanted to do the right thing but kept getting thrown curve balls. that whole scene with his father and the confronting and the anger with his father did not go over well with me. It was inappropriate, Stereotypical and reminded me of the "How come he don't want me" scene from the fresh Prince of Bel air. I don't know for sure what the exact extent of their relationship was growing up but Matt is now 29 years old. Also since his father was willing to appear on the show I assume all was not bad or at least things are good enough now that he came on the show for Matt. Nevertheless he got the villain edit. But I suspect he has been the villain all along My other villain in this series is his mother. Seemed like she was never able to get over the breakup with Matts dad. I came form a 2 parent family but I have some family members who have been single moms and have dated some single moms. But I never have seen anyone have that type of guilt or bad feelings because their Dad cheated on their mother. It appears to me that his mom either consciously or subconsciously passed down to Matt a lot of negativity about his father and also about relationships. I can see wanting to be a better father than my father was but Matt seems to have some types of hang-ups about it He shouldn't feel that way about what his father did . He is not responsible for his dads actions and what his mother had to go through. . Its like he's subconsciously thinking I'm black like my Daddy and I don't want to marry a woman and, cheat on her and leave her with 2 kids,, no man, and bad memories like my mom has. I got the impression that he doesn't usually bring women home to meet his mom. After she acted like Debbie Downer and made some cryptic statement about feelings fading away I was even more convinced. Matt needs therapy so that he can have healthy relationships in the future. He need s to have session with his Mom as well.
  2. I"m not 100% convinced that this whole Lupe and Gilbert sex thing may not be some type of producer shenanigans. But then again there is quite a bit about their relationship that defies any type of logic that I would apply to any situation. I remember in the first episode that they implied that Gilbert was stepping out on Lupe because they had no sex life at all. Now they have a pregnancy scare and say that Gilbert is insisting on sex so much that it is interfering with the stiches on her surgical wounds . Wouldn't he just continue to step out and get his needs fulfilled white his wife recovers??? She leaves him at the end of this episode but then posts pictures on social media promoting themselves as the happy couple. Of course things can change but the separation seems a bit shocking. Then out of nowhere we heard the hint thrown in of physical violence I'm no expert on domestic abuse but why would Gilbert need to become physically violent with his wife when she cant walk and he is her only caretaker?? He's already in control of the situation. He is already getting paid to take care of her and he already gets his sex elsewhere? Also how does lupe move to another city to live with her cousin when she has no resources?? If she leaves him which cant be easy because of lack of resources and settles in with a new caretaker why would she go back to him in such a short period of time? This reminds me of the first Bettie Jo episode when her husband was complaining about lack of intimacy in the session with the therapist. One year later in the supersized edition it is revealed Bettie Jo had numerous miscarriages before and now she is pregnant. Either way in my opinion i think that the most important thins for Lupe is to loose weight and get mobile. At her ideal weight and with mobility she can then decide whether or not the relationship is working for her or any relationship for that matter. in the state she is in now she cannot even care for herself. Her husband is willing to do that and he gets paid to do it. If Lupe is able to walk and care for herself she can find out whether or not he really wants to be with her or if he's just there for the check.
  3. One thing i have learned from watching reality TV and reading biographies etc. is that people give you bits and pieces of their backstory and you never get the full picture. I'm sure that some things happened to Steven and Justin in their past but I cannot excuse their current state. Its not totally their fault that they are the way that they are but at the age of 27 and 33 they need to start taking some responsibility for their situation It seems as though Stevens mother has gotten the "Villain Edit" but as reprehensible as she is I put a lot of blame on the father. Firstly because he is dumb enough to go on TV and associate himself with this train wreck. It is he who has apparently never gotten his children the psychological evaluations that they needed long ago and he who has from their teen years onward provided a home and environment with no structure where they were not pushed or encouraged to do anything with their lives. Where they could drop out of school, not get jobs and eat everything not tied down including $700 a month just on pizza for Steven alone. Both of those boys are basically stuck in pre adolescence. All they do is eat, sleep drink and play with their toys. Neither of them have any intention of loosing weight. Steven is basically doing anything he can so that he can stay in a hospital environment and get waited on hand and foot. He is getting his food. doesn't even have to bathe himself and he can go on his tablet and watch TV all day. When he wants to get high he goes to the emergency room and complains about his leg which is festering with Lymphedema and infections. Did you see the grin on his face when the nurses were bathing him?? Justin is living the life at home. With no Steven to bother him he can eat as much as he wants and play with his toy cars. I assume that this will continue until they waste their fathers retirement income and perhaps looses his house because of their inability to stop eating. Then they will start relying on the taxpayers if they haven't already. I watched part of the regular episode and the supersized version and not once did Steven or Justin say even one complete sentence regarding why they wanted to loose weight. Usually patients on the show have a reason for why they want to loose weight. These guys gave no reason why they wanted to loose weight. Im not going to play amateur psychologist and label Steven as a narcissist psychopath or sociopath but I know he is something that needs to be treated. Perhaps society is better off with an 800lb Steven?? If Steven was normal sized and mobile in his untreated state then he could perhaps damage more people than he has already. At least now he is bedbound and cannot hurt anyone. If Steven does break the law and comes under the jurisdiction of the criminal justice system he would surely loose weight and get clean then. There would be strict monitoring of his food and no one sneaking him pizza and no pills. Anyway well see in part 2 what happens. Hopefully this show will go back to helping people who sincerely want to change and not wasting time on people who don't want to change. Someone up thread mentioned something about DR, Now not having privileges at certain hospitals in the City of Houston any more. I'm wondering if perhaps it is because they don't want him to film in their hospital. I'm guessing that could be an issue for some hospitals.
