  1. The producers better be planning something other than just a tree-house. These people are boring me. Even Josh's antics in the bedroom aren't interesting anymore. One of them has to be gay, pregnant out of wedlock, practice wicca, preferably all of the above, or I don't even feel like snarking anymore. Boo Duggars.  Do sumthin'.

Agreed. I'm just not interested in them anymore. I come here for the well written posts, the snark but the family in themselves........yawn

  2. I once had a boss who, when my fifth job anniversary came round, was asked, as everybody always was, to talk about me for about 30 seconds at the company meeting. She said she had no idea what to say and asked me to write something, then read it in a stumbling voice, and added a couple of phrases of her own that were a) inaccurate and b) made me look much less accomplished and competent than I was. It made me furious. There were a couple of other people spoken of at the same meeting for various anniversaries -- including a first anniversary -- who were enthusiastically gushed over in what were clearly their bosses' words, not their own. But I wasn't surprised -- she was completely wrapped up in herself and paid no attention to other people, so of course she didn't know the first thing about me and didn't care to learn. This Duggar birthday situation is the same, I've always thought. Just like my boss, they have to make these birthday pronouncements -- although in their case it's for their media fame, not because it's a workplace agenda point -- and since they neither know or care they do what they do. And what they do is crap. They are crap. And the main cause for whatever deficiencies their children have, too.

I had exactly the same happening to me, for my 5th anniversary - my then Boss stumbled through some perfunctionary words. It was crucifying.

But neither Mechelle nor DimBulb really know their kids, since they've never bothered to get to know them. Those kids are generic, exchangeable and don't matter a damn on an individual basis at all.

I would really like to know when was the last time that Mechelle really bothered about any of her children?

  3. Everything about their house is very generic, isn't it? Their decorating, their rooms, their garden or lack thereof.......none of them seems to care, or is allowed to care.

Having greenery would, of course, mean somebody has to be responsible and that is something they aren't capable of being

  4. Just a nitpick from a fellow Call the Midwife fan, but they are actually Anglican nuns. At least that is what the memoirs the series is based on says; I don't remember if it was mentioned on the show at all. I found that really interesting because I didn't even know that Protestant nuns existed!

That's because Anglicans come in different shades - they would be very High Church, which is near inseparable from the Catholic Church. In fact, you'd hardly know the difference if you were to go to their Mass service. I remember I was in London years ago, attending a Service and couldn't tell if it was A or C til Communion.....

Jill is an idiot. I think this is what happens when you raise your children to be dumb, deaf and blind to everything but their parents, when you crush their spirit in every way, when you beat them up every time they don't do the sweet countenance...it's so sad

  5. Here you go my dear ;-)))

I see. Infrastructure here is somewhat different of course, with public transport and all, you would be able to get yourself to a supermarket. We do have a lot of smaller shops still that sell fruit n veg.

Aye, I remember then supposedly planting a garden, but that takes discipline and perseverance, none of which the Duggars possess. And since Ma n Pa are more interested in travelling to and fro, it falls by the wayside

  6. You've pretty much nailed it. Some Duggar child I think admitted that they hadn't seen their so-called good friends in years.

I don't think that the Bates parents actually like the Duggar parents. Some sort of friendship seems to have sprung up between some of the kids (I do remember that some Duggar girls, Jessa? turned up their nose(s) at any innuendo that there may be a courtship between the two families a few years ago), but for the adults, no.

The Bateses were just as crazy but kind of reinvented themselves and come across as much more likeable now, plus they seem to have mellowed and yes, learnt something from their mistakes.

I still do like them, their kids aren't afraid of them, they interact in a normal way and Alyssa hasn't been shunned for wearing jeans

  7. Thanks for the link, that was interesting. I'm quite amazed at the amount of veggies that seem to be sold in tins :-) We don't have that huge a selection of tinned goods.

I agree, I just don't get it that they don't have a lovely fruit n veg garden. They have the space, they have enough indentured slaves, who could actually learn something and be given a work ethic. AND they would have the best possible produce, fresh and healthy.

Feeding a child cold tinned peas is just...........blah.

We don't experience that food desert syndrome much if at all here, I suppose. It's never that far from a supermarket or Farmer's Market. Those kind of expensive wee shops are corner shops here. But the Duggars live near a town, don't they and I believe I've even seen an Aldi there. Not known for the best products, but still.......

  8. MunichNark - "White cake" is a generic, cover-all term for cake mixes that are vanilla-based, and are usually blindingly white because they are so heavily bleached and over processed. Not that I don't love it, but it has more chemicals in it than a meth lab !

It's disgustingly delicious, and therefore a Favored Duggar Food, as they like to preserve as many degrees of separation from real, natural food as possible. I don't know if it's just an American thing - I've never seen it in Canada, Mexico, or Europe - but it's very much a Duggar thing. If you ask the kids what kind of juice they want, they don't say "orange" or "apple" - they say "red" or "blue".

On behalf of people who actually eat fruits and vegetables, try to cook creatively and healthily, and don't think dry ramen is an appropriate meal for toddlers, we apologize. Funny, but the Duggars don't need to leave the country to be The Ugly Americans.

:-)))) You just made me laugh. Thanks for the explanation, Google wasn't terribly helpful in that respect.

There is no such thing either in Germany, the UK or Ireland. Ah well.

I get that they don't want to cut up a ton of carrots say, but I've always been led to believe that the US is the epitome of convenience - and thus will surely have frozen prepared food that you just chuck into the saucepan? And junk food is expensive, no?

I'm not even familiar with most of what they eat (velveeta, tater tots....)

  9. Oh dear goodness, this was hilarious. I don't know what tater tots are exactly and thought the strange dog sausage shaped thingy looked like turd........yuk.

This does not look appetising at.all. Salty, fatty, overproduced crap.

Never heard of white cake either - is that a uniquely american thing?

  10. I do like sauerkraut but this intrigues me. What kind of cheese do you use?

I use either mature Gouda or Cheddar. It's so yummy. Only thing is, you may, ahem, not be terribly sociable to people for a while due to the gassy nature of the kraut.....it's so easy to make, just throw in the kraut, previously cooked for a minute or two with some sugar and pineapple (use sweetened pineapple for this), and throw lots of cheese on top.

Sauerkraut cooked with some cream is actually really nice too.  Gives a melt-in-the-mouth texture.

I had to look up Kolbassi, since I've never heard of it. What's white cake?

Re Berliners, depending on where you're from, they are either Berliners (I've just scoffed one), Pfannkuchen (which is actually a pancake) or here, in the South, Krapfen.

We're heading towards the Carnival seasons finale (just before Easter) now, where traditionally, there are looooooooads of different filled donuts available you only get then. Droooooooooooooooool

  11. I'm far from innocent :-) I lived in Northern Ireland at a time when bombs were a reality and I've been in bombs scares. In comparsion, Germany and Munich are lalaland......Munich's exceptionally safe (up until now), laughably so, so you may fare well with your open door......

Quite like the dog with a business attitude:-))) Is that a trademark yet?

Pork's very bavarian, they can't do without it here at all. I'm a veggie so..

Sauerkraut with pineapple and cheese, baked in the oven comes highly recommended, if you're not a huge fan usually.

  12. I was reading about that this morning and immediately thought of you, MunichNark ! Sending many hugs and hoping that you're safe and sound...

    Thank you, that's kind.

Aye, all well, nothing happened yet......I was worried about a friend who was out near it, but no bother thankfully.

We will have more of that to come - and that something is going to happen is a given. Just a matter of when exactly. Sigh. I thought I left that behind when I left Northern Ireland.

Anyhoo, hope you all had a good start to the year.

Do you have any new year's traditions where you are? Myself, I eat white pickled cabbage (sourkraut) with mashed potato for lunch, to ensure I have enough money throughout the year. The cabbage represents whitegold, ie, money........

We've some fairly funky traditions in Germany though, from the fireworks to special Berliners (donuts to you) to melting lead to tell fortunes

  13. Playskool first husband:-))))))))

People don't turn out like that unless they have been exposed to some hideous stuff in their childhood. Granted, not everyone is very emotional or given to gestures, but she.....

She was a "willful child" (how do you do those tm trademarks?), eg, she was beaten to shite every day, to survive as a child, she learnt to build up a wall and do what's expected. The fact that she was a bully soon after also is a serious warning sign that things are very amiss with that one.

Jessa wasn't taught to love, laugh and just be - she was taught to repress any and every normal human emotion, to view any urges as the spawn of the Devil, to view her own brother as dangerous.....etc etc. No wonder she turned out like that.

Only thing is - now she is an adult and responsible for the way she still is. We can't help how we grow up but we CAN help the way we are once grown
