  1. Ooh, that was a good episode! I remember from the very first ep of the series that Shetland still has traditions related to their Norse background (eg the Up Helly Aa festival), so I wonder if the tattoo symbol and the corn doll are connected to those traditions.

Very much enjoying Tosh leading the investigation. And Billy is always your guy if you need chips, or a hot cup of tea and a scone!

For free trips to Shetland, visit Google Earth and let the little yellow man take you down some of the roads and to scenic vistas.

I’ve done that - I actually found the police station and the exterior of Jimmy’s house 😄

  3. I watched the second episode this morning. Anybody else? I enjoyed it.

I didn’t twig at first that the older woman who was forced to help the wounded hitman was the same one with the dead sheep.

I snorted when Tosh and the Procurator both turned to look at DI Calder when Cal gave her as his alibi 🤣🤣

I wonder if Calder’s brother and his wife are involved somehow in Ellen’s case (oh who am I kidding? Everyone’s involved somehow, that’s how it always works 😄)

I’m enjoying seeing Tosh running the investigation.

    🤣🤣🤣

    What’s he saying here? 😄

There was a scene from a few seasons ago - I think it was when Cassie was going to uni in Glasgow, and she was being followed - and Jimmy saw the guy in the restaurant and told him to stop following his daughter or he’d rip his f*cking eyes out. I loved that scene 🤣

My husband and I have visited similar islands (Faroe, Orkney, Iceland, though not Shetland) so are used to (and love) that bleak scenery.

I follow a crofter on Twitter (I’ll never call it X 😄) who lives on the isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, and the photos that he posts show a similar lack of trees.

My family and I visited Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia 🇨🇦 this summer, and its landscape and coastline is similar to Shetland and many parts of Scotland. Probably how Nova Scotia got its name! Anyway, the big difference being that Cape Breton is heavily forested. If I knew how to post a picture here, I would.

  6. I’ve seen Jon Bernthal in other things since Punisher, but while watching him on this show I was always kind of waiting for him to turn into Frank Castle 😄 - so when he exploded in anger at the Christmas table, I was like “Yup, there’s Frank!”

  7.  I forgot to mention that in one ep, and I can’t even remember which one it was, Carmy was lying on the couch in his apartment watching something on TV, and I think he dozed off. Well, he was watching Pasta Grannies on Youtube, which is a channel where the host and cameraperson (maybe one other crew member, but the crew is very small) visit the homes and villages of old Italian ladies, and watch them make all these delicious pasta dishes from scratch. Sometimes they make desserts as well - I’ve seen one ep about tiramisu. Anyway, if you ever need some comfort TV or Youtube, check it out - it’s wonderful!

  8. Haven’t seen this mentioned in the thread yet, so I thought I’d add that Matty Matheson (co-executive producer, also plays Fak) is a well-known chef here in Canada who has owned and operated several restaurants in Toronto and Fort Erie, Ontario, over the last 10 or 15 years.

I think part of it was also that back in the 60's astronauts were legitimate celebrities. Like if I saw an astronaut today in a movie theatre they would just be another person.

I don’t know - if I saw Chris Hadfield in a movie theatre, I would fangirl a little bit! 😄

This ep reminded me a little bit of Behind Her Eyes.

  10. I’ve been watching a Canadian police series called 19-2 - the French original and the English adaptation - and in both series there’s one episode that deals with a school shooting. In the original and remake, the episodes open with a *13-minute* tracking shot!

  11. My husband and I are watching the FA Cup, with Man City playing Man U, and we agreed that Jack Grealish with Man City looks like Jamie Tartt 😄

Of course Michelle would be at the soccer game as Henry’s mother,  but that doesn’t mean she is back with Ted. I assumed the taxi dropped Ted off at Michelle’s house because he was anxious to see Henry and needed a place to stay for a night or two.

That’s what I thought as well.

The show saved money by using the same actress to play young Rebecca and Dutchman’s daughter

I mean, this was my first thought, rather than some implausible theory about the whole show being Ted’s dream, or Rebecca’s vision of her childhood self come to life, or whatever. I thought that, child labour laws (especially in television) being what they are, they probably decided to use the same child actress in both roles and shoot both scenes in one day so that she would only need to be on set for a short time.

edit: I just realized that I said they could shoot both scenes in one day. In reality I’ve no idea how long it would take to shoot those scenes 😄
