  1. I was thinking the same thing. I'm sure my memory is not accurate, but it seems like there's always a kooky Asian contestant who designs off-the-wall fashions, and they are always the first ones auffed (or are at least gone by episode 3). If their style isn't appropriate for the American market that I guess this show is aimed at, why cast them in the first place? Speaking of why cast them in the first place, all the menswear designers? Nothing wrong with menswear, but I really do not want to watch a whole season of menswear designers whine about being out of their wheelhouse. Right?! There seemed to be quite a bit on display to me! I was very underwhelmed by this premiere. With the exception of Brandon's, which I did like a lot, and maybe Margarita's pretty red and pink number, I didn't think any of the designs were great shakes. The winning look was nice enough, but I thought it aged the model. It did have a Michelle Obama vibe as one of the judges pointed out. Michelle is obviously a lovely woman, but that's still not necessarily the best comparison when the model is half her age. I didn't think ChaCha's was all that bad. I liked it a hell of a lot more than Batani's gray rag. The flower embellishments around the neckline were cool and I liked the low scooped out back. I wouldn't wear it but I could see the right celebrity wearing it. Nobody would wear Batani's dress. And you can't tell me that it was worse than that gold monstrosity. How on earth was that not in the bottom? As others have said, I don't care what the models think about the clothing, and I definitely do not think it should be a factor in the judging. If a garment is unflattering, that should be apparent to the judges who have a trained eye for it. Unless it's actually physically painful or encumbering, how the model feels is irrelevant. It may just not be their style. Unfortunately I think this show has gone too far over the edge with their pushing of diversity. It's always been one of the things I liked about the show, but when you sacrifice talent and educated judging for the sake of casting as many of every possible type of minority you can, and then adding in an anvil of body diversity awareness on top, it stops becoming about who is designing the best fashion. I hope I'm wrong and there is some talent in this bunch. Fingers crossed.
  2. Um, excuse me? What's that all about? I can't believe you're the first person to ask about this. I have to assume since the poster just dropped it there with no further explanation that they are simply trolling. Lee, is that you? I couldn't agree more. I think he completely led her on, knowing that the farther he got the better his chances for Bachelor were. As she mentioned, she did have doubts about him before but she wanted it to be him so badly and he was giving her just enough to make her believe he might get there. I could see him start pumping the brakes hard in Geneva, probably hoping that she would get the hint and send him home soon. But without the benefit of social media - which tells us clearly that he's been angling for the Bachelor gig since high school - she confused his fear of her dashing those chances by picking him for a sincere hesitancy about rushing into it, when that wouldn't make a big difference if he were genuinely in love with her. If you sign up for this show, you know that the end game is a proposal. If you aren't in love with the lead enough to go through those motions, it's on you to leave. He did neither, still professing to be in love with her at the end. It's no wonder she was hurt and confused. It was clear too, as she alluded to, that she did ask him (probably more than once) to leave if he wasn't feeling it. He did not. Rachel was being a bit petty, but considering this was the first time she was watching this back, and seeing Peter after becoming conscious of just how much he was playing her, it is easily understandable to me; I've totally been there, when you think you have a handle on the situation and then one comment brings back all the pain and anger. She was probably also angry that he wasted so much of her time and attention that could have been spent on getting to know some of the other guys better who had a genuine interest in her. I actually clapped when she started sabotaging his chances at Bachelor. She knew exactly what she was doing, and so did he. He fully deserved it. I am sure that Peter will be the next Bachelor anyway, because people just seem to be blinded by his good looks even though he has the personality of a cardboard box. He's so dour and mumble-mouthed he makes Nick Viall look like a sparkling bon vivant. But who else is there? Dean doesn't want it, and sadly I don't think they will choose one of the black men. I'd like Eric to get it, or Kenny if he promised to keep the mentions of his daughter to a minimum of once per episode, but I just don't think they'll go there. Maybe Will has a shot? I really think it's time for this franchise to stop selecting the leads from the contestant pool. Between hoping to be the next Bach/ette and/or going on Bachelor in Paradise, nobody is in this to win it anymore. The second place prize is better than the first place prize. I do feel bad for Bryan. Even though he's a smarmy cheeseball, I do think he has genuine affection for Rachel and is interested at least in dating her, if not marrying her right away. Seeing how clearly she hoped for it to be Peter must hurt. And if there was more evidence that it was Bryan anyway at that point, I wish we'd seen it. I doubt they'll work out but I hope to pleasantly surprised.
  3. Whoa. This is super creepy to me. If I knew someone was looking at my hands and thinking about how it relates to my 'underlying bone structure' I'd run the other way. Also, can't you assess someone's body proportionality simply by...looking at their body? Ben is a super dork who is lucky enough to have a really nice face. I think he knows this and this is why he feels unloveable -- I would imagine once girls get over the physical attraction, they realize that he's kind of boring and drippy and ditch him. I could never see spunky, vivacious JoJo with him in the long run, so it's good he didn't pick her. Maybe he knew that she was really the one that was out of his league, and while Lauren is still a very overall attractive person, physically and in personality, she is the less likely to draw a lot of attention from other people (especially men). Ben also strikes me as someone who would go for a very traditional domestic, maternal woman, and JoJo is a little too much of a modern, independent woman. I think she will make a fantastic bachelorette (but then, I liked Kaitlyn too and I blame the issues with her season more on the producers than her -- they seemed to never take her seriously from the start and really shortchanged her in terms of dates, locations, etc.).
  4. Ha, I agree with all of these. So Ben is religious? Well, that means I can watch safely without developing a crush on him myself. He's a cutie and seems very nice but yeah, he's not overflowing with charisma or anything. (Where is Arie?!?!?!) Not one of these girls stood out to me as being either particularly beautiful (i.e. Britt, Ashley I.) or particularly charming or interesting (i.e. Sharleen, Clare from JP's season). I thought Lauren R. was the prettiest, but she was eliminated -- I guess she should have told Ben her name! I was surprised the redhead was eliminated too, she was pretty and seemed relatively smart and normal. Olivia is striking in a certain way but I don't think she's a great beauty. I agree that something about her comes across as calculated. Lauren B. the flight attendant seems more natural and genuine. I also like JoJo a lot and I think she'll go far. Calling those three for my final three. Rachel is pretty too but I didn't spot much of her in the previews. The twins actually seem pretty cool, although I agree that they're not particularly pretty. Jubilee is pretty and likable and seems to make it pretty far as well, which makes me wonder if she might positioned by the producers to be the next Bachette? On the negatives: Amanda's voice made me want to die. I've come to the conclusion after living in Europe that this affected baby voice thing is a uniquely American atrocity, and I wish these women would realize that it is just not cute. And Lace is just...ugh. She is obviously a producer plant and sure she's pretty, but not THAT pretty. I'm curious about Becca -- she and Ben actually seem like they'd make a good match to me, but they weren't showing much of her in the previews. Is that to throw us off? I liked her in Chris's season and hope I don't have to change my mind.
  5. This was my thought as well. I guess if she lives in San Diego there is the possibility that she would fall for one of the LA-based famewhores and that would be easier than Idaho, but I agree with many that it was just an excuse to let him down gently. Poor Josh seemed so sweet but so simple... and that's the nicest way of putting it. In a way they might be a nice balance for each other, but I think Tenley needs somebody who will reciprocate a bit of that energy she's putting out. Tanner and Jade... this just could not have seemed more producer-driven to me. Everyone loved the proposal at the end of last summer's BiP, so of course, let's do it again. When Jade first realized what was happening she did not seem...particularly overjoyed to me. More like WTF oh god I have to say yes this is on tv. I give them 50/50 odds on making it to the altar. Jade seems nice enough and she's very pretty, but her speech patterns drive me crazy. She pauses at odd times, draws every simple sentence out like she's trying to think of the right words only to come up with banal nothingness, and has a particularly noxious case of uptalk. Samantha and Nick...well, I'm just glad this show is over so I don't have to hear about how Samantha is the most gorgeous being ever. My eyeballs must me broken, because to me she looks like a straight up drag queen. Maybe there's a reason Nick keeps calling her the most beautiful...thing...he's ever seen... Cassandra is gorgeous and comes across as level-headed and mature, and I'd be curious to see if her and Justin go far as a couple. He seemed so much more animated and personable with her than anyone else and even started to seem attractive. They might just be a good match. The 'one month later' updates at the end were lacking. Witness protection program for Kirk? Really, show? Carly seemed to state quite the opposite, that she never wanted to see or speak to him again. Poking fun is ok but not when it doesn't even make sense and relies on lazy misogynistic tropes. And of course, Ashley S. is crazy. Even with her apparently genuine loopiness, she's still the voice of reason among these nutjobs.
  6. No physical faults? Other than her coloring, which is quite striking, I find very little to like about Sam's appearance. She is all bony angles and obvious extensions. Quite honestly, she looks quite manly to me. Ashley I. is gorgeous, but men don't like any hint of desperation and she comes across as so inexperienced. I bet more guys would be into her if she didn't seem like so much work. Amber, Clare, Jade and Ashley I. are all quite beautiful I think and all have lovely figures (Ashley's legs are fine -- they are not stick legs, they are womanly legs). Carly is cute as well but needs to lay off the makeup or learn to apply it better. Tenley is adorable and too normal to be on this show. Let's not even talk about Juelia. They're really scraping the bottom of the barrel with the guys. Tanner and Dan are attractive but act like girls with the gossiping and manipulating. Jared seems like he realized he made a mistake early on going on this show and is trying to keep a low profile before he embarasses himself. Joshua seems sweet. Kirk seems like a nice guy too, and good on Carly for locking that down. Joe is a loser. Give me Celebrity Chef Francisco.
  7. I think definitely this is why she (and most of the other franchise leads) go into it in the first place, but I think being the subject of so much scrutiny probably is much more taxing and less fun and games than most of them think it is going to be...especially considering they are also trying to fulfill contractual obligations and please the show's producers at the same time. Kaitlyn especially doesn't seem like she's dealt very well with this situation to me...throughout the season she has appeared, to me, genuinely distressed at many points. I don't doubt there is still an appeal to being 'the Bachelorette' but I'm willing to bet she's had enough for now.
  8. Oh, wow, that is surprising. I remember her bringing it up a lot with Ben H. but not with Ben Z. He definitely seems older. It's not outrageously young or anything, but most 26 year old men I know are not all that interested in getting married immediately. They're maybe looking for more serious relationships than they were in their early 20's but settling down is not a top priority, whereas for women it is about that age that it becomes moreso. Of course, I can't speak for Ben H. (or Ben Z.!) specifically...maybe he's not that interested in playing the field. Of course, this is all assuming that any Bachelor/ette is actually on there because they want to find true love. I'm sure Ben H. can fake it as well as the rest of them :-)
  9. What a disappointing MTA. Way too much time spent on JJ and Clint (either they did have a romance, in which case, it's quite mean to treat it like a big joke -- or they didn't, and it's a non-story) and the cyberbullying nonsense. I have no problem with them addressing cyberbullying, but I don't think it should have been done on the MTA. Have a special PSA about it during the commercial break or something. Ben Z. and Ben H. both doing winning Bachelor auditions. My money is on Ben Z. He's probably the better choice and he has a better 'hook' - his dead mom - plus Ben H. is a little young for the gig. I'd happily watch either of them though. Maybe they can bring Ben H. back in a couple of years. Ian made an admirable last stand, and I do think he was sincerely regretful...to have made such an ass of himself on tv. I was surprised not to see him in the Bachelor in Paradise promos. Would've thought that could have been a good way to redeem himself. Surprised we didn't hear from Cupcake or Tony. Maybe if Corey (who?) would have shut his yap for a minute there would've been time to get to them. I don't think Kaitlyn was expecting Ben H. to ask about why she didn't tell him about Nick, considering he knew as well as everyone else that the answer was obviously that she already knew Shawn was her F1 (or at least F2). I think she did just about as well on the spot as could be done under the circumstances. What was she supposed to say? I don't think Ben H. was in love with Kaitlyn, but I do think there was a mutual fondness there. Jarred, Jarred...I still don't see what others find so attractive about him (physically), but he is a gentleman and a sweetheart. Hope he finds a nice Lacey on Bachelor in Paradise. And one last thing...Kaitlyn looked...different, didn't she? I couldn't put a finger on it. Different hair and more (worse) makeup -- or at least the lighting was not doing her any favors. I guess I am one of the few who actually thinks Kaitlyn is quite striking, beautiful even (though she looked better on the Bachelor with her natural lips), but she looks better with less makeup, not more, and she looked tired and stressed on this show. I bet she can't wait for this all to be over and to be able to return to a somewhat normal life. Anyway, bring on Bachelor in Paradise!
