S02.E25: Girl Meets The New Year
coyotedelmar replied to RedFire2000's topic in Girl Meets World [V]
The only reason I could think of was scheduling conflicts with actors/actresses forcing episodes to be filmed out of order as well. Looking through examples it seems some shows it happens to cut costs because a set is used in several episodes (ergo some earlier episodes may not be finished yet I guess). Rating reasons, e.g. putting episodes expected to do well up during sweeps. Think there was another but forget =/. As for GMW and Disney, no idea other then maybe scheduling. Doesn't seem like sweeps is considered (possibly due to lack of advertising) since they did things like air Fish during Sweeps. Suppose Disney was hampered towards the end with the Texas 3 parter while November had 2 scheduled spots and December just the 1 (not sure how far in advance that was decided). Some of the switching looks to make sense though. Money was supposed to slot in between Texas part 2 and Texas part 3 (Why?!), Bay Window would go after Texas, even though the New Year seemed to be more fitting. And New Year was supposed to be before Legacy, which makes a bit of sense but from the little plot detail of Bay Window, Texas pt 3, New Year, Legacy makes more sense *shrugs* Blame too much caffeine for getting way off track haha, but yeah the only things I can think to do it out of order is someone wasn't available or they really couldn't fit Texas in any later in the season and thus had to fill to get to New Year. -
S02.E23: Girl Meets The Forgiveness Project

That'd been great, even WWI could be used with the Austro-Hungarian Empire and it's contempt of the Serbians after the assassination (Serbia agreed to all but one of Austria-Hungary's demands). Though WWII probably ties much better, and more well known, just been reading up on WWI lately =p. Anyways related to the lesson, I liked that the point was made about listening to the other person and trying to at least understand their reasoning then just jumping to conclusions. That and the one about criticism not being the same as bullying have been two of my favorite lessons so far this season. -
While I thought the episode was decent, had some laughs, etc. I agree with most people in not liking that Riley made the team, even as an alternative. There was a point in the episode I was hoping she'd realize it wasn't really for her, when she and the coach had that one-on-one talk and the mentioning of how the girls on the team dedicate their life to cheerleading. It's a sitcom, so a bunch of stuff isn't shown, but it didn't seem like Riley had that level of commitment to cheer. Instead she kept going at it, sigh. The second was at the end, I agree that having her become the mascot would have been better then having her as an alternative. Hell, it'd even work with the classroom lesson, Edison (likely) didn't keep trying to do the same damn thing that didn't work 10,000 times, he tried something different each time. Riley asking about being a mascot would have been great, it'd be a different way for her to still be involved and use her talents, and send a better message (imo). To nitpick a bit, those cuts (The ones where they froze the frame, like when Riley was just thrown) were awful. If you aren't/can't have her do stunts, then show reactions from other people or something (with the sound), but yeah it didn't work. Loved Zay, as usual, and probably was the best of the episode for me.

I liked the fact they (at least sort of) eluded that Riley "beat," her bully by embracing her weirdness. The only issue I have is at no point prior has Riley seemed insecure about her weirdness, so her suddenly being upset that someone is bullying her about is a bit out of place. Granted they're supposed to be 13/14, so could be insecure (deep down) about everything for all I know =p. Really hope the ending wasn't meant as a message to the audience, because the people being vicious on twitter, and it's safe to assume it's probably mostly twitter (because...twitter) are a small small minority of the viewers. Not a fan of how it'd come across, if it was aimed at the audience, as "you are all mean bad evil people!" As for just blocking the number, from a quick google search (as well as my limited understanding prior) there are services that'll provide the ability to spoof your number when sending a text, which I would assume would navigate around a block. Again, could be wrong, as I'm not exactly well educated on that. Know there used to be service(s) that'd basically let you make international calls without it being considered international through more convoluted means, but yeah.

For Stahma visiting Alak, I wasn't quite sure of her angle at first (if any) but think figured it out. Basically she knew he'd never actually go with her (maybe hoped he would), but knew by putting Luke in danger it'd make Alak have to leave/go into hiding for a bit. Which it just so happens Adina stays behind to help Alak. In other words, my opinion, the plan was to make Alak have to lay low for awhile with Adina, and hopefully enhancing their (Alak and Adina's) relationship.

The Maya knowing before Riley may have been meant as a way for the writers to inform the viewers so we know Riley is struggling to understand what her feelings for Lucas are. No idea if that is actually the case obviously, just throwing it out there. Saying that, it's also not the best way to do it. I feel the notebook in this episode would work much better for that, but maybe the writers thought their target audience wouldn't get the hint? *shrugs* A lot of the hate, I feel, is due more to the revelation being out of left field rather then the fact Maya knows before Riley. Think if it was better set-up prior to Maya figuring it out, less folk would have issue than now. Granted, still be some, as peoples tolerance for plausibility when it comes to TV/Movies differs (if that makes sense).

Still don't like the "like a brother," route they keep trying to push, which continued in the episode. It'd make sense if Riley realized her infatuation with Lucas is mostly superficial and ended up just remaining friends. It seems the whole, changed, narrative is that because Riley and Lucas are both happy optimistic people that makes them like brother/sister. This despite the interactions being nil or even going in the opposite direction. Mentioned this before somewhere, but Maya/Lucas makes sense as having a brother/sister bond (to me). Could also be seen as a crush too, though Maya doesn't act like she does around Josh, which was established as a crush. Anyways, I'm still trying to figure out who decided jumping up and down in weird circles was equatable to dancing. I get there isn't much dancing can do to the song but doing it the way they did looked soooooooo stupid.

Also not a fan of the Shawn/Katy thing. I guess if they let it simmer for awhile before pushing it more it might be alright, but it just feels too...convenient I guess especially for Maya's character. Of course there is also the issue that there hasn't been much development of what exactly would make them work as a couple, other then they both like Maya Had heard about the not missing Maya thing before seeing the episode and was expected it to be...more direct a line then it was. It seemed like the idea might have been less they wouldn't miss Maya and more they needed a Riley, and if Riley wasn't going to fill that role, then they rather have someone filling that role. Of course, as pointed out (I missed it myself), we never heard what Maya was most likely to be/do. So combined with the line, maybe it does mean they don't really like Maya (which could run through Semi-Formal, with Maya finding out she isn't as popular as thought/would like). Think it's more what I said above though (obviously) with Maya's yearbook thing not being mentioned just due to inability to fit another plot/storyline in the episode. Glad Farkle didn't change back, other then personality (sort of) wise. Thought it had a bit of a clothes don't define you message and that you don't have to fit into a "character" just because you have nerdy interests or jock one or whatever. The brother thing when Maya was Riley I'm not a fan of, at least right now. Mostly as it makes about as much sense as them being a couple, where has it ever seemed like Lucas would be Riley (or Riley would see him as) brother? Maya at least you can go that way with her teasing of him, and his willingness to put up with it usually (Mr. Squirrel being the exception). The teasing could also mean more of crush (it's middle school, what I remember of middle school that makes sense. Maybe reversed but still), though already seen how Maya acts/deals with a crush and it isn't the same as she acts with Lucas. Granted, sitcom, so continuity and logic can fly out the window whenever they want usually, but from how she acted with Josh, would think she'd be more obsessive/clingy/immature (best word(s) could think of) then the way they are now.

Pawter's sloppy work is a bit odd, what's the point if you are going to do it so bad you get caught within a day (or so it seemed)? Happy the red box stuff got interesting finally and curious to see what everything leads to. Made that backstory worth it (kind of felt that was always going to eventually be the case but still nice it wasn't dragged out any longer). Hoping Fancy gets more screen time, like his asshatery and confidence plus the interactions between him and the crew. If they ever decided to add a fourth member to the team, love for it to be him, though he'd never actually join. 10 episode seasons wouldn't bother me if it wasn't for the fact it'll be a year before the show comes back if/when it's renewed. Have the same problem with 13 episode seasons. Keeps the plot(s) from dragging on too long at least I guess though.

Girl Meets Spoilers (and Spoiler Discussion)

So Yearbook is going to have some connection to The Library scene(s) from Girl Meets Boy: https://twitter.com/GMWWriters/status/626384910618472449 From the stills and episode description (plus the description of Semi-Formal), get the feeling it may be trolling shippers and the connection will be the vet thing. http://www.disneyabcpress.com/disneychannel/shows/girl-meets-world/episodes/girl-meets-yearbook/ Also, didn't see it mentioned, but Sheppard is going to be the band in Semi-Formal: http://www.disneyabcpress.com/disneychannel/shows/girl-meets-world/episodes/girl-meets-semi-formal/ -
S03.E08: My Name Is Datak Tarr and I Have Come to Kill You
coyotedelmar replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Defiance [V]
Didn't expect Datak to survive, and at least slightly thought (when he got the knife) he was going to cut the device out. Iffy on if I'm happy he survived or not, don't think he's been that interesting since Season 1 (but then Stahma became muuuch more interesting so fine with that). The flashbacks were nice and it was nice to get a bit of insight into Datak's childhood and growing up. I don't have a problem with Nolan being accepting of the spy, I think part of the issue might be that we already knew he was a spy so it seems more stupid then it was. I'll give that in a normal situation he'd probably be more skeptical, but considering how desperate the town was for fighters and the fact the VC just infiltrated, I can easily see blindly trusting anyone decent with a weapon (well, at least anyone human). Was happy to see Papa Omec get involved in helping the town, even if it was only that one case and he backed off afterwards. Glad to hear he also turned to wanting to co-exist instead of take over the planet, not that it was overly surprising but still happy to actually hear it finally. Though Kinzi seems likely to ruin any chance of that actually happen. -
Girl Meets Spoilers (and Spoiler Discussion)
coyotedelmar replied to Kromm's topic in Girl Meets World [V]
Over on the IMDB boards it was pointed out people seem to be messing around on the show pages a bit. Think it was mostly about Commonism, not sure if anything was pointed out for the others. From the GMWWriters twitter, Smackle returning in Normal is confirmed and I think they mentioned Dewey being in World of Terror 2. Supposedly some other guest stars as well but I don't think they've mentioned who yet (Just Auggie, Ava, & Doy). Also Semi-Formal is going to have a new kid (Charlie), can't remember if it was mentioned here or IMDB already (one of them did if I recall). -
Oof, that was a bit hard to watch. Agree it's the weakest of S2, probably not surprising being it was a held back episode but yeah. I did think Auggie was alright, some points he was pretty good, some were grating. Overall too much Auggie though, I'd agree with that. Also Ava was less annoying the usual. Riley picked up the annoying mantle though, they took the naive/stupid waaayyy too far with her, even my suspension of disbelief was stretched (and that is pretty hard to do =/). Agreed about the mild disdain for Fish Store Phil in there, didn't seem like he was doing anything wrong. At least they didn't go full out "he's a villain," and in general I really liked Fish Store Phil. There were a couple laughs though, and I got a bit of a laugh from the et three joke (it was really dumb but I still like it ><).

S02.E10: Girl Meets The New Teacher
coyotedelmar replied to AmandaPanda's topic in Girl Meets World [V]
First impressions I really liked the episode and some of the meta (and non-meta) jokes. I hope Harper sticks around instead of being an one and done character. Also curious to see what Maya learns, if anything, from Mr. Turner/Shawn thing. Seemed to, sort of, give the message that she doesn't need Shawn to be her (new) Dad and can just be a mentor. *shrugs* Not sure I was that much into the comic book lesson(s), but have to watch again. Thought the clip posted in the review (at least looked) a much better lesson but I'll go with it for now. Be nice to see in a later episode an expansion on the whole history full of heroes and villains etc. thing, about how it's not always black and white/good and evil. -
Girl Meets Spoilers (and Spoiler Discussion)
coyotedelmar replied to Kromm's topic in Girl Meets World [V]
bit off topic, but love the writers twitter sometimes, especially with spoiler drops like: https://twitter.com/GMWWriters/status/620407753979236352 Anyways, glad they (supposedly) aren't going to do Riley/Lucas true love thing. Ideally I'd like to see Lucas end up with someone else besides Riley or Maya (part of that being I really don't like Mr. 99% perfect). Still can't really see how they can have Maya and Lucas hook up for more then an episode without being way out of character for Maya (even for just an episode it could be argued to be out of character). They kind of painted themselves in a bit there, especially after Meets Mr. Squirrels.
