  1. James said he talked with her while she was being stabilized (said she was able to squeeze his hand and talk) and got an update on her after the game. She responded "We good" to his tweets. I don't think she's offended by his apology.

  2. GS was the better team because it was LeBron plus a whole host of second and third stringers. Now if Kevin Love, Kyrie Irving and the rest of the Cavs had been healthy . . . that would have been an incredible series to watch!

  3. I liked Hermann's first exchange with Freddy: "I don't like people calling me a klutz." "Then that's extra incentive not to drop my glasses." Maybe that ended up going so well Hermann thought he could explain away this one, and frankly I thought he did a good job making sure Freddie understood the ribbing meant he was part of the family. Freddie and Gabby can host their own overreaction meetings any time now.

  4. I don't recall Bart Conner's acting career at all. I do not think any Olympic medalists have really had good screen careers since the big studio days.

I only remember Bart in an episode of "Higheay to Heaven." He played a gymnast (shocking, I know). I think Michael Landon was helping a gymnast who lost his leg in a car accident and maybe Bart was involved somehow in the accident and was now helping him continue in the sport. Something like that.

  5. Boden deserved to be arrested just for being stupid. But the state's attorney shows up to tell Boden that he is the most important witness to their case against a well-connected individual but he needs to clean up this out-of-nowhere extremely OOC assault claim first or it jeopardizes the case? First, what was Boden supposed to do to speed up the investigation? Second, seriously? You can't put two and two together? Stupid was contagious this episode.

My favorite part of the episode was Hermann only giving the guy $3 as a bribe and then taking it back. But why didn't the police have the wallet? Do they really just take abandoned cars to a corrupt impound lot?

Edited because Boden and Biden are two different people.

  6. Qoass, I totally remember that interview. Bryant asked the kids about their favorite characters and one little boy said, "Darth Vader." Bryant was surprised and asked why, and he said, "Because he saves Luke in the end." Bryant's expression was priceless as he gently said to the boy, "Uh oh, I don't think we were supposed to say that."

I was surprised Bryant hadn't already seen the movie to know not to ask a follow up! I had hoped I would forget the spoiler, but my sister came in and said we were seeing the movie that afternoon. Now I find I actually like to know the ending ahead of time, especially in action movies. I have a very low tolerance for people being mean to other people and for scary stuff so I like knowing when to close my eyes or leave the theater for a concession or restroom run.

  7. Script wise it was a bit cheesy for me and honestly, Eilis and Tony getting married before she went back just took out any suspense at all if she was going to go back to the US. As soon as they actually went and tied the knot it was only a matter of "when" and not "if" she would go back, so I wonder if it might not have been more interesting to only have them get engaged. I really wasn't feeling Tony, so I was a bit disappointed Eilis didn't end up with Jim. Even though, yeah, the narrative was obviously setting Tony/America up as the right choice.

That was my problem with the book, and I had hoped they would fix it for the movie. She married Tony. If they had just been engaged, I could have maybe accepted her growing relationship with Jim. But she was married so I lost all respect for her dithering. And then she gets blackmailed? The book was so good and just jumped the shark; I am disappointed the movie was so faithful.

  8. Regarding the refs, I always tell my boys that they can only complain about a blown call when their team played perfectly. So they know that once "I can't believe the ref missed that" leaves their lips, it better be followed by all the ways their team could have played better, too.

  9. The other commercial I liked was a ref waving his arms as he explained, "Yes, we know we blew the last call. We will be making it up in the next quarter by blowing a comparable call for the other team."

  10. I thought they were clear at the beginning that they just didn't like each other.  From the other ADA's defensiveness and repetition that Erin would have tried the case the same way, I assumed this wasn't the first time Erin had to clean up after her.

  11. I wonder if that's why I could never get into the Emily series. As much as I love Anne, I kept trying and trying to read Emily and always ended up putting it down. I never really could explain why I didn't like it. I may have to go back and try again.

  12. I didn't have a problem with Gabby asking Riddle if he asks male firefighters about their emotional state when they come off medical leave, but when they all thought he was being a jerk by bringing up the baby? Umm, what did they think he would ask about?

  13. I forgot about her, Spartan Girl! If I remember correctly, then she blames her young daughter for making a judgment call and lays all her problems at the daughter's feet. I don't recall liking that book very much.

  14. Was Makalu Gau in the movie? She was the person Beck said should be taken by the helicopter first. It is really too bad if they left that moment out because it was an incredible show of character and strength.

  15. Perhaps ridiculously, the only thing that annoyed me was that the rich American dude, who pushed on and stuck around against the recommendations of the pros, had connections that got his frostbitten ass helicoptered off the mountain. On the one hand, I was kind of proud of the wife for moving heaven and earth to get her husband home alive, but on the other hand, I felt that it wasn't fair to other less affluent/influential climbers who just had to suck it up and/or die due to lack of political power to get rescued.

Did they show both helicopter rescues in the movie? Beck may have been arrogant and brash, but he won me over when his family paid for the helicopter, found a pilot crazy enough to try a rescue with the understanding there might be only one try, and he gave the first spot to the other victim. I remember an interview and he was the most humble when he was asked about being asked to let the other person go first. He choked up a little and said, "You want to live, but you want to live with honor". I can deal with brashness if that is his core character.

My understanding is that the movie was based more on those other accounts, as the Krakauer account is so well known, so I get why he's not happy. His character doesn't come off that well.

I recall thinking he was pretty harsh on himself in his own book.

  16. Is that unpopular, SmithW? To continue on that theme, I want her to stop telling me what she wishes she could change now. The books are now canon for me. Telling me Ron and Hermione should never have been a couple just makes me mad, and I am not a shipper. The books are published; stop tinkering.

  17. It didn't bode well for Cleveland at halftime when both coaches had the same plan to keep Manziel in the pocket. When your plan mirrors your opponent's plan for you, it is probably time to rethink.

  18. I like the idea of the candidate having a large connected family. We all know someone who knows everyone, and you can't mention anything without their saying, "My cousin is head of that!" or "My dad's college roommate built that place!" Chicago seems to be a place that is all about connections; it could be fun.

When Gabby and Casey got back together I made hubby acknowledge the order- he declared his love and then she said she was pregnant. I told him we were guaranteed to have her screw it up. This episode she says, "We only got back together because of the baby." I paused it to gloat.

So in one week she solved a serial arsonist case and exposed corruption in the department. Maybe on her lunch hour she can fly to DC and end the national debt. If she has an extra 15 minutes, solve world hunger. I think Gabby is wasted at the station.
