Finally... Pam Hupp charged in Betsy Faria's murder, prosecutor says criminal charges against investigators, attorneys could follow "LINCOLN COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV.com) – Not only were murder charges filed against Pamela Hupp in connection to Betsy Faria's 2011 death Monday, Lincoln County Prosecutor Michael Wood announced his office uncovered prosecutorial and police misconduct in the initial investigation that could result in criminal charges. Hupp was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action Monday, and Wood said his office would seek the death penalty in the case." "He said at the news conference three separate sources told him that witnesses for the prosecution in Russell Faria's trial were asked to lie on the stand and that the sheriff at the time attempted to issue an order to have all evidence in the case destroyed." https://www.kmov.com/news/new-charges-to-be-announced-against-pam-hupp-in-betsy-farias-murder/article_312466c8-e30f-11eb-9fdc-7f136b754d44.html?style=feature https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/pamela-hupp-facing-new-murder-charge-and-potential-death-penalty-in-her-friends-2011-murder/article_5625a77e-79d6-5bdc-a356-6d3796f4eb59.html

On The Watch podcast, Andy Greenwald said he spoke to someone involved in the production and got answers to both those questions. - You're right about the boys. Ralph's dead son and the Peterson brother who shot Terry - The "Who's Terry?" line was just supposed to be an indication that Holly was going along with the cover-up. A "This conversation never happened," "What conversation?"-type response.

Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee - General Discussion

Random info from various articles relating to some of the above comments: - Re The gun ballistics: Different articles use different language. Some say the shell casings matched Strickland's gun, others say they were deemed "a likely match." - Re How Strickland could know details of the case if he wasn't involved: https://www.mysanantonio.com/news/local/article/Jury-hears-letter-during-trial-of-Helotes-man-9239295.php This was interesting: Inserting himself into the case: https://www.kiiitv.com/article/news/arrest-affidavit-details-link-between-david-strickland-portland-shootings/273941061 - One other detail mentioned in the episode that seemed really odd: While being questioned by police, Spellman (the guy who the public hair was matched to) asked about a potential plea deal. That seems really, really strange to me. Who would ask about a plea to a murder they didn't commit? I mean sure there are plenty of examples of people confessing to crimes they didn't commit, but that tends to come after long, grueling interrogations or when the police convince an unsophisticated suspect that they have no other option. We didn't really get any details about Spellman's questioning, but it didn't seem like it was that kind of situation. ---- I guess it's possible that Strickland originally inserted himself into the case just because he's a weirdo who gets off on that kind of stuff, then two years later decided to use the case to get the guy in Utah who he was in conflict with - and there's zero doubt that he wrote the letter -, but the equipment that was found in his possession - guns, silencer, zip ties, gloves, etc... - is straight out of the Serial Killer Handbook. Whether or not he did it - and I tend to think he did - I think society's better off with Strickland off the street. I do wish Dateline had spent less time on the victim and more time on the suspects. Aside from their criminal records, I don't feel like I know anything about them. Maybe nobody who knew them was willing to do an interview, but if that's the case they should say that they at least tried.

The trial has been moved back a couple of times and is now set for June 2019. Some good news: Both the prosecutor and the judge in the Faria case lost their primary challenges last August. https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/lincoln-county-voters-sweep-out-of-office-key-figures-in/article_41fbd1b3-a621-59f5-a412-40d544337e55.html

Re the trial footage: I get that a lawyer might want to soften their client's image for the jury, but dressing a grown man like he's a six year old on Easter Sunday is just way overboard. It's such an obvious attempt at manipulation and it only makes him look guilty. It reminded me of the Menendez brothers:

Graham Norton in the Media & Scheduling
Stampiron replied to Athena's topic in The Graham Norton Show
'He went on and on': Graham Norton has let slip his least favourite guest ever Graham Norton has revealed that Robert De Niro was one of his least-favourite guests ever on his BBC One chat show... “He’s not a storyteller, or very verbal," the West Cork native said. "He’s a benign presence. Last time he started telling a story – he went on and on. We were all leaning in, willing it to be amazing... then he finally went, ‘why am I telling this?’ Nobody had an answer. We cut it.” Still, that wasn't a patch on what Graham called his worst episode ever - a show in June of this year that featured Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Rihanna, Sarah Paulson and Helena Bonham Carter. “I felt like the guy driving the bus on a hen party," Graham remarked. “For 45 minutes people were talking over each other and laughing. They were having a great time but the audience was nonplussed." https://www.her.ie/amp/entertainment/went-graham-norton-let-slip-least-favourite-guest-ever-429702 -

‘Deadliest Catch’ co-star Edgar Hansen pleads guilty to sexually assaulting teen girl "Reality-TV fisherman Edgar Hansen pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a teenage girl in September, but he’ll face no jail time under a plea deal quietly reached last week with Snohomish County prosecutors. Instead, Hansen, 47, received a 364-day suspended jail sentence and was ordered to pay court fines and fees of $1,653, court records show. He also must undergo a sexual-deviancy evaluation and treatment and give a DNA sample to authorities..." "...Edgar Hansen’s victim — identified only as 16-year-old “Jane Doe” — told her therapist in October that Hansen had sexually assaulted her at a Mountlake Terrace home Sept. 30..." Hansen pleaded guilty Wednesday to fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation — a gross misdemeanor — admitting he intentionally kissed and touched the victim. “I committed this assault for the purpose of my own sexual gratification,” Hansen’s handwritten statement says. “I am very sorry for that conduct and I have commenced treatment to ensure that nothing like this assault ever happens again.” https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/crime/deadliest-catch-co-star-edgar-hansen-pleads-guilty-to-sexually-assaulting-teen-girl/ -
No way to know for sure, but I think it's just as likely that she just made up the pregnancy. I was a little surprised that the prosecution didn't feel confident selling a first-degree murder charge at trial. Leaving his phone at home plus the app auto-sending texts seems like a clear attempt to establish an alibi before the fact. (I hate to give props to a murderer, but that was pretty sophisticated thinking on his part. Wouldn't expect that from someone his age.)

Small Talk: How Not To Get Caught Dead With Dirty Underwear

If the timestamp doesn't work, the Dateline talk starts at 2:30 -
There must be some rights issue with it where they can't post it. It sucks that this just happens to be an episode that got partially preempted. I wouldn't have bailed on it if I'd known it wouldn't be going online. I've looked for it elsewhere and haven't had any luck, but I'll post a link if I find one.
