She doesn't see it as a redemption, I think. More of a chance to finally put some order and structure in the world she despises.

Maybe. But I think she does realize that the Machine is teaching her something. And you could see her caring for the team. Not only because the Machine tells her so.

I agree that Root didn't care about redemption but she did catch on that the Machine was trying to teach her the value of humanity  (that Finch had imprinted on it).  It's taken awhile for her to get past rolling her eyes about it and complaining how it broke the Machine but I do think she's starting to care about her team.  She still disparages them but the tone has changed.

I can't stand Quinn...but not in a love to hate way, just in a "hate" way.  It's ridiculous how stupidly one-note this character is being written.  The writers should make her at least somewhat rootable...show some vulnerabilities, or at least a semi-good reason why she is so over the top, but so far I am seeing nothing.

Maybe it's because I like Rena Sofer but I do see a hint of vulnerability in the way she's playing Quinn, but it's only when she's interacting with Wyatt.  It's subtle - she's BSC with everyone but him and in their scenes I get the underlying desperation for him to understand what she's doing and why she's doing it.  You can see it in her face.   ETA:  I think both actors are good together.  I don't care that much one way or the other about Wyatt but when he's dealing with his mother, he comes off much more sympathetic.

That said, Quinn needs something else to focus on in between the crazy.

mean, how many weddings need to not happen for one reason or another before THAT is a sign that you two shouldn't be together?

Exactly.  I laughed at the montage today.  Pretty sure if you try to get married so many times and it doesn't happen, you should get a clue.

I've stopped counting how many weeks I've been watching but I did realize today that I've only seen half the people in the credits.  Not sure what that says about the show.

It was FINCH who helped Reese out; who saved him; gave him a purpose, something Reese told not only Finch, but the audience.

I was thinking of a flashback scene where John was on a bus or something and she tried to help him?  I binge watched most of the first two seasons so it all is kind of a blur in spots.  But yes, I do see what you mean.  I don't think she saved him either.

But he quite obviously admired her and it had a hint (hint!) of something extra.  I thought the writing subtly laid kind of a chaste love from afar thing for Reese and Carter.  Like when he would talk about her to Fusco - you could tell if he disrespected her at all, he would pay. ;-)  But at the same time you didn't get the impression he would ever ask her out or anything.  Still, if it hadn't been for him going off the rails when she died, I could take it either way.  I wasn't a shipper or anything.

Right.  And she got the relationship she wanted with it by intercepting that call.  She figured out the Machine's existence, she "researched", stalked and/or murdered anyone that get her more info on it, stalked it and then intercepted a call not meant for her.

Which is ironic because post-Machine, she starts having to behave more humanely because of it.  She's still crazy but is starting to develop a sense of right and wrong as most of us know it.

    - Also, the kiss... Seriously? I think I've read it was improvised, but it doesn't make a lick of sense. In fact, I appreciate it that there isn't any romance between the main cast of the show.

It made sense to me.  Carter was the cop who helped him when he was down and out.  She was a good cop but also ethical and empathetic and I think he put her on a pedestal until the very last second when time ran out... (If I didn't buy the kiss, then I couldn't buy the devastation that followed either.)  YMMV.

  7. I probably wouldn't have gotten hooked on PoI this last year without Root and the AI storyline.  Procedurals get boring unless there is something else going on to keep it interesting.  And Reese doesn't interest me much.  I did like him with his psycho partner (Kara) and the fixer character (Zoey) and with Carter, even Shaw.  When he's on his own in  a scene breaking heads?  Meh.

What I don't like about the direction the AI story has taken isn't so much the clash between the Machine and Samaritan but the cheesy "Clash of the Gods" dialog - it's too over the top.

  8. In my mind, the machine just communicates with Root because she is the only one who treats it like a real person.  They may end up explaining it as something else but I felt as if Root reaching out to it woke up the sentient aspect of itself.  Although, it displayed self-preservation before and an attachment to Harold, so what do I know?  A little too metaphysical for me.  :-)

Unless they edited the script and reshot and edited in all of a week or two, I think this must be a legend.

I have seen the work print floating around and it isn't a legend.  It was a very good scene, explaining how the Sheriff came to be half man, half robot.  Maybe it will be on the dvd...

  10. I know that Wyatt doesn't seem to be the most popular character around here but I felt sorry for him today - listening to his clueless bride go on about her ex.  And I had to laugh at BSC Quinn, so very proud of pushing Ivy in the Seine and Hope into Wyatt.  Which scenario is going to be the deal breaker for Hope - finding out about the psycho m-i-l machinations or the fact that Ivy seems to be holding Liam's attention?

Ridge not being able to draw was eye-rolling at first but it's starting to get interesting. At least it's different than the endless WTD and paternity switch storylines on most soaps.

I don't want the kid to be a clone of that kid from 'Touch'.  If he is, I'm probably out, because the Touch kid was obnoxious to the extreme.

I have never seen Touch but kids rarely work well in network tv series.  Once Upon a Time is one of the few exceptions that I can think of and there - only just.

  12. I was hoping the show would be a cross of Numb3rs and Leverage.  I guess not on the Leverage, but if it is half as entertaining as Numb3rs, I'll give it a chance.  (Although unless they sideline the kid, I probably won't stick around too long.)

  13. Felicity doesn't really look much like her tv counterpart in this Arrow 2.5 pt. 1, does she?

Unless something interesting happens in the next issue, I don't see why you couldn't wait until the whole thing comes together.

  14. So, not sure if this should be in the comics section but spoilers and all that...

Arrow 2.5 pt.1 just appeared on my tablet (I have Kindle app on my Android) and I'm disappointed. It took like a minute to flip through and there's no connection to the season finale.  I thought we were going to get some info there?

There was a fight on a plane that would have been all kinds of fun if they could have filmed it.  :-)

Ridge isn't a Forrester - This news hit Bell LA like a magnitude 10 earthquake, causing a seismic shift in the foundation of the show. Thorne, the "other Forrester brother", was actually Eric's eldest bio son, and it gave Brooke some much needed ammo in her war with Stephanie.

Brooke/Deacon/Bridget/Hope - A polorizing SL, that forever changed the way viewers felt about Brooke. After months of fighting Bridget about her relationship/marriage to Deacon, Brooke, in a moment of weakness, began a lustmance with him. It also produced Hope, who was Bridget's half sister, and stepchild, and who was Brooke's daughter, but also her step grandchild. As with the BeLief SL, this one was full of great writing and performances by KKL, SK, JF, and SF. I will never ever forget when Stephanie found out and made Brooke look at herself in the mirror while screaming "you are NO heroine!".

Stephanie Douglas's childhood - A really, really good SL that went a long way in explaining Stephanie's personality, and what drove her obsession with Ridge. It also introduced us to Stephanie's mother, played by the fabulous Betty White, and to her sister Pam, who still appears on the show played by Alley Mills.

I appreciate all the storyline info.  I'm quoting these because they appear to still affect people on the canvas.

    - I wondered if Stephanie's sister was the same person as the pearls lady who hangs out with the security guard. Thanks for confirming that.

    - I have no idea who Bridget is so I suppose I should look that up.  :-)  Sounds like that was a great soapy story.

    - Is Ridge a Forrester or not?  Does B&B do that retcon of retcons thing I hate so much - especially with paternity stories?

Did she? I just remember her looking at the cop and saying she was going for a run.

The only reason I noticed is that soaps are so bad when it comes to workplace settings that I appreciated it, even if it was a rushed, throw-away line.  Some of the frustration I have with the idiocy of daytime would be reduced if the writers used them more.

I wish the writers would just quit playing and stop insulting the audience's intelligence.  How about actually having the character abandon all pretenses and admitting that this is what he had in mind all along?  Or, did they really think that viewers bought that hoo-ha about Deacon wanting to prove he had "changed for Hope's sake."

Do I want to know what happened to Amber and Little 'D'?  I was watching Y&R off and on when she left GC to go back to LA.

    2.  Taylor in Middle Eastistan - It's not going to sound good on paper, but Taylor was presumed dead in a plane crash, she was actually nursed back to health and held captive by Prince Omar.

I know who Hunter Tylo is (sort of) from reading headlines - is she still on the show?

Back in ancient times, if you wanted to watch a new soap, you found a friend or a relative who watched and pestered them with questions.  I hope I'm not annoying anyone with questions that I could look up in Wikipedia but for some reason I like the unfolding and getting to know these characters.  I think reading all the backstory would kind of ruin the experience I'm having.

  19. I was kind of disappointed when I finally watched today's episode. From comments here, I was hoping Wyatt suspected Quinn. I'm trying to remember - does Deacon know she pushed Ivy off the bridge? Or even know she went to Paris?  (I delete the episodes off the dvr once I watch them - maybe I should keep them until I figure out what's going on.)

Not sure if it's okay to ask this but if it is, I was wondering what you all would say the top 5 or so iconic storylines for B&B are (that are relevant to a newer viewer) and if there are any links to clips on Youtube or other sites?
