I should have sympathy, but I kinda don't. The players had a chance to do something about it last year before they added 2 teams to the postseason & added a 17th game. Chances are that they will get to 18 before the start of the 2026 season. The fair thing would be to have 2 bye weeks, with one of them preceding a TNF game

Call it an emotional hedge! In probably the best Thursday Night Football game this season, two big time names will be missing in action in JJ Watt and Davante Adams. The latter was no surprise due to his Covid status coupled with a short week. I don't know if Adams was able to test negative twice, but with the lack of practice, it really would not have mattered at all. Apparently, since 2019, Aaron Rodgers is undefeated (with a minimum of 5 starts) when Adams is not in the lineup. The bigger surprise is JJ Watt's status. I didn't catch that; he got injured on Sunday but played through it. Now, he could be done for the year. BTW, Watt got paid last summer. Still, I like Arizona FTW. A close game that I think the Packers will cover, but I had the Cards winning even before the news of the inactives

Atlanta FTW. Probably more of an emotional hedge. There are things to like about both teams and things to dislike about both teams. Atlanta has the pitching, the defense. Houston has a ton of offense. Defensively, not that great, but Atlanta's offense can do just enough to win the whole thing if the Astros can't pitch. Somewhat surprising that Morton is pitching tonight, but mainly because it would affect his ability to be available in a possible Game 7 (where he's basically undefeated)

For Urban Meyer's demise. I now will not be surprised if Brian Flores is the one left behind in London. Maybe not, but no shocker if there's a new HC for Miami. I actually hope no one breaks the all time record from the Bucs. Of course, the Tampa community moved into better territory with Multiple Superbowl titles, while Jacksonville & Cleveland have yet to appear in the big game. Cleveland nearly did set a new mark in 16-17; had they done so, that would've been awesome!

Yeah, I sorta would be happy with a Jacksonville win. Miami might be the opposite of polarizing, but they don't move the needle for me. Not that the Jaguars do either, but I think Lawrence can take this team into a positive direction, maybe beyond the 90s and 2017. Meyer probably won't get fired here since it's not a blowout, but despite this year, I never actually hated the man. Didn't really admire him, but respect him since he's a winner. Meanwhile, Miami is sorta trying to blow it with meaningless back-to-back challenges (both unsuccessful). Probably dumb second one even though the reward was great. It's a 3-point lead. Flores had to take the L there, play defense and go from there. Week 6 picks: Vikings, Ravens, Rams, Colts, Washington, Bears, Lions, Browns, Cowboys, Broncos, Seahawks, Bills. Pittsburgh should win, but the history is what it is. Moreover, Pete Carroll is coaching tonight. Buffalo's redemption/revenge continues after last week's crushing of Kansas City. Baltimore is rolling, and Cleveland/Arizona is a toss. This is the best shot of Dallas prevailing over New England (despite the venue)

The only time we'll see Roger give another interview or talk in public will be during the Super Bowl events around that time. OTOH, if somehow those emails (especially certain meaningful ones) get leaked or hacked or whatever, we'll probably see the 2014 of Roger as he struggles to answer questions in the aftermath. Yeah, I think what TB has done with AB is amazing. Total trust in a player that was actually on track to become the greatest WR in NFL history (or second best outside of Jerry Rice). With Gronk out, looks like he's more than a contributor. Might be the top target (or second outside of Evans). Triple header day for CBS. First for the NFL, I believe. Though they're still calling it a double header after their opening game (which I think Miami wins to end the Urban Era). Loving these 15-16 hours of Sunday football. I think it's the last one of the year though!

It looks like the final line is going to be Georgia -21.5 with an O/U of 44.5. I was thinking Kentucky ATS as well, but I think I’m going to settle with Bulldogs. It’s a last-minute change. Not an easy decision either since the new pressure coupled with the fact that it’s Georgia would lead me toward the Wildcats. Thinking it’ll be a 34-10 final score which could produce a bad beat. Could be a nice parlay for all of that and a Dodgers win (which is my pick for the NL winner), but I’ll pass on that today

If you care about football, I think Syracuse vs Clemson is on
-
Boston in seven. So if I'm wrong, chances are it means Dusty Baker will finally get that title
-
Nope. TBH, I didn't need to check LOL!

I think that's possible, but IMO, it could be Mark Davis trying to reverse his decision to give an average coach a $100,000,000 contract (when he already had a rather decent coach in place and under contract). In the 10th year of full-season TNF, the 8th on free TV, and 4th & final for FOX, the Thursday games actually have not been super bad this year. Usually it's slated to be awful, and turns out to be awful. Even Cincy/Jax was okay. Seattle vs LA could've been a mess post-Russell, but it wasn't. It's a complete toss with Tampa & Philly, but I'm picking the latter FTW. Road game on a short week for a non 100% Brady. I'm probably going to be wrong, but if the Bucs lose, the Top Seed is Dallas' to lose
-
In addition to how that's not going to work, IMO, that's a little messed up. I could be wrong with that though, but I haven't heard any off-season news that Washington was planning on retiring on October 17. Really, this is the first I've heard of it; usually whenever someone's number is retired, there's an announcement of some sort well in advance of the ceremony

As mentioned, Jon Gruden was who he was for about 3 quarters of a decade and never owned up to it. There's no comparison to anyone that's been caught with a random tweet that would get dug up years later or some comment that was taped half a century ago but was somehow released to the public. The lack of accountability and trying to back pedal helped with his ouster. At the end of the day, it's Jon Gruden. He's not Bill Belichick or any successful HOF HC. IMHO, he was average at best after 14 season of coaching, and I'm being generous
-
Well, if someone had real plans that conflicted with the ALCS, I think they'd be okay. Though I don't know if I'd root for the NL winner either. That is a combination of a personal decision and a definitive one. A Dodgers/Braves NLCS would mean people being grateful that the heart of the NFL is happening now
-
I don't think the following is happening since Gruden lacks a social media presence: You wonder if Jon has anything that would more or less bring down the top people in the NFL. In other words, would he have the replies toward some of his offensive comments? While I don't think we'd get to a point where he'd disclose it, that is a possibility. Furthermore, it might cost 60 Million to hit that send button!
-
That's what I meant. Sorry about that! It's sorta like a direct message or something private. While doing it that way keeps it out of the public, there's no guarantee. The president of my company once gave t he best advice ages ago, and it still holds true. Don't do or say stuff in private or in a place you think is private that you'd regret and feel awful & embarrassed for if it's done or said in front of whomever. We're all guilty, if not most of us. Probably not to this degree; on the other hand, at least most of us will not be in a big time spot where someone like Jon Gruden would go down or have a chance at going down over something done in the past (private or public)
-
The game pretty much had a Superbowl 51 vibe to it
-
I sorta think maybe Mark Davis wanted him gone too to best be off the hook in terms of $60,000,000.00

You know, people saying it was a decade ago, or these were private conversations probably need to take a deep breath, grab a drink, and shut up. That's based on everything and not just a personal, awful comment toward Mr. Smith. And it is awful enough. The fact is, whether it's 2011, 2006, or this time in 2001. It was wrong then. Just because something occurred a long time ago doesn't make it right. If that had come to light by anyone back then, they'd be done, back then. It's a shame, as much as it isn't. I actually thought Jon was alright on television. His players didn't really care for him that much. Until now, Gruden would have been alright to have a drink with while watching film and talking football. The guy was very knowledgeable. Obviously I wouldn't waste a second of my life having a drink with that man. While Jon Gruden couldn't undo what he did, and while no one's going to confess to that stuff, maybe don't post that stuff in the first place? No one's perfect, but man, when people get offended by things that are truly offensive, then, I'd probably respect it and listen to those individuals. Otherwise, that's the end for some perpetrator, or in this case, a former Head Coach that won with Tony Dungy's players and didn't build off of that going forward.
-
Actually to be fair, Gronk has been rather smart with his money. Apparently he has not touched his signing bonus or salary. Instead, he's lived off of endorsement deals. This may have changed in time (if so, he needs to go back to what he was doing), but he's been better than at least most of the other players in the league
-
Tough luck for Tampa, but they still other opportunities to win the game (or stop Boston from winning in the 13th). They'll have to dig deep on the road to get it back to Tropicana, but that's Baseball. I can't say that I didn't see Chicago avoiding elimination, but I didn't see it playing out the way it did
-
Maybe it'll be Dallas' year. If Buffalo keeps cruising, then that's might be their ticket. The problem is Buffalo's other "foe" is Brady, who, I believe, it undefeated against Dallas. Rodgers is too, in the most meaningful games
-
And that should just about do it. Dallas probably wins with a healthy Saquon Barkley and Daniel Jones anyway, but such is life Legacy no-call
-
Not a Saquon Barkley fan, but man, that totally sucks for the guy (injured and carted off again). Oh yeah: Chargers/Browns is full of excitement (not something I'm saying a decade ago)
