  1. Wasn't Hannah on DWTS during this time? Wasn't she busy? Was Alan in the background in between scenes? It would be *awesome* if one of the dates was to see her dance.

I do feel kind of bad for her, and it makes me wonder why the unprecedented storyline. She's a beautiful girl. Why waste her time here?

At this point the girls all look alike. I liked the girl with the Corvette and attitude. Did she make it past the rose ceremony?

Hell.  I thought that was a set up.  Why would the guy even know if she had a kid, much less the kid's name.  I thought that was going to be a trap leading to a cliff hanger.

I was worried he was going to say "Tali" and imply she had been kidnapped.

    "I'm all eardrums."

    Pictures of DiNozzo with Tali!

I feel like it's not over with Phineas. He knows too much.

What exactly is Jack's purpose on this show?

Are they looking to spinoff Bishop with Odette?

    Overall a satisfying episode.

But what made me mad is that Grey put absolutely no blame on Liz. Yes, Dex can lack impulse control but Liz was there too. As far as I was concerned, she was equally to blame (before we found out that it was all a set up).

Exactly. So yes, Dex is a mess, but Liz is a grown adult.

The entire Liz character has bugged me from the start (possibly unfairly because the actress playing her also played a character that annoyed me on another show.) I keep hoping this is all part of a larger storyline where Grey is onto her but playing along to get to something in his past. He just doesn't seem to be the type who falls for someone easily, especially if he's still carrying a torch for Dex.

Never have I empathized with Dex as much as those moments in the classroom when she realized she was dealing with a bunch of whiny entitled snowflakes and couldn't use her usual toolset of skills.

Sue Lynn's advice was spot on. Make your bed. It makes a difference!

  4. Laughed out loud at the competition between the grandpas. Gary Cole is a treasure.

It's sad that the grandma felt she could take over her daughter's house and force Christmas on her, though I get they had to do that to get this storyline. You can see perhaps why her daughters have reacted the way they have.

That said, I can see Santamonica being all over the commercial version of Christmas. An extravagant, over the top holiday has her name written all over it. Johan is my favorite, though. There's something so winning and guileless about the character, and the way the actor portrayed his genuine joy at receiving the sneakers was perfect. I hope the character stays this way throughout the show, and the writers don't feel they need to change him dramatically.

This has become one of my only appointment tv shows. It's sweet and comforting but also sharp and funny.

I thought this episode was great. I'm assuming it was the final episode of the original season order since the ending felt like a finale with the flash forwards.

Wondered that too, but loved the flash forwards. I don't watch Black-ish regularly so was curious about how everyone turned out. Have they ever showed her parents?

This show reminds me a bit of the family-friendly sitcoms from the 90s but with a twist. Mark-Paul Gosselaar comes across as a very sweet dad.

ITA. I've been really enjoying MPG on this show. In every other show he's been on I've had a hard time not thinking of him as Zach Morris. Not here. I wonder if his authentic portrayal of a sweet dad is because he's able to relate to the child actors.

I continue to love this show. The montage they have near the end of the show (this episode set to Modern English's I Melt With You) is just great.

Hannah's had a very lucky couple of years hasn't she?  Miss Alabama,  Bachelorette,  and now winner of DWTS.  What next, I wonder?

I was thinking this as well. Say what you will of her, she's somehow played her cards well enough to not only stay in the spotlight but to increase her exposure. It's impressive.

Right same goes with even Eddie's past drinking problem? He just had them? Was it from his party life? Did he have a family background? No, all we know from flashbacks is that Katherine and Him were happy, moved in the house and then he was apparently drinking so much, he missed the birth of his own son. Then vowed to NEVER DRINK AGAIN and then did that for 9 years but decided he tired of Katherine's same take out night after night and working to Pay ALL OF THE BILLS and he decided to jump into bed with Delilah. Who felt Jon was distant and had all these secrets. Yet, doesn't care about it at all when she sees what was what really lead to him committing suicide. Yet it's: "No, I need to move on. My family is important." Oh shut up! It's bad writing.

Thank you for articulating what's bothered me for a while as an inconsistency in the storyline. We've never seen the unreasonable, domineering Katherine that was portrayed by Eddie and his throwaway comment about the same Indian takeout every night.

So what drove him to the affair?

    • Katherine really was a jerk but had a massive personality change upon finding out about the affair. Possible but not particularly interesting for a tv drama.
    • Eddie is a womanizer. Possible also but the writers don't seem to be going down that route.
    • Delilah seduced him. See, this would be interesting, but I can't for the life of me understand what anyone would see in her.

Any of these would have been fine, but they haven't explored these backstories. We need more flashbacks. I can see why the current situation is compelling, but we don't have enough background to understand how they got here.

If she was a plant, this is a sexual harassment law suit waiting to happen. Does Grey have any parole stipulations going on?

That said, I forget the lines/metaphor he used to convince her of the sincerity of his affection, but it was very charming.

If she was a plant, I'd love it if Grey knew and was playing her. Given his background, he should be a pretty savvy and cautious judge of character, and so the suddenness of him falling for a random stranger seems inconsistent without a deeper story. One-night stand? Sure. Professing sincerity of his affection after a few hookups? Questionable.

Case of the week was just ok, but as usual, I was more invested in the interaction of the leads. Carol was awesome. I don't know the books, but it would be great if there was a group of semi-sketchy PIs who appear occasionally in Dex's universe.

  9. Wow. No words

Delilah has a lot of nerve asking Katherine to be a "good person." She went out of her way to keep you in your house. She has no obligation to lie to her kid for the rest of her life because you're self-centered bitch.

Really, no words. It does give insight into Delilah's psyche, though; anyone unwilling to enable her is a bad person. Makes you wonder about the validity of Delilah's claim of feeling unwanted by Jon (or whatever the reason was.)

Putting that issue aside, if DeeDee hadn't been there, I think it likely that nobody would have bothered the family at all. DeeDee got what she was looking for.

This episode felt out of place from the others this season. This show has done a great job with nuance and being subtly sweet, but this felt cliched.

DeeDee's behavior was obnoxious. You can be true to yourself and still respectful to others.

Bishop is terrible. She never apologized to Torres. She is by far the worst part of the show for me, and I used to really like her. Her whole weirdness about Ziva was terrible too.

I think the issue with Bishop is that her character development hasn't had a defined arc. In the 5-6 years she's been on the show, we've seen her as quirky, from Oklahoma, and unlucky in love - all of which could have been explored further - but the character hasn't really evolved. As a result, I don't find myself rooting for her, and so it's easier for me to find her annoying.

By contrast, Kasie has only been around for 2 seasons, but I want her to do her thing and thrive at NCIS.

  12. I enjoyed tonight on so many levels.

Sasha getting so excited about boy band / girl group night was too cute.

My younger self is squealing over James sneaking Justin Timberlake and Lance Bass into a club to see Prince.

Also, Bye Bye Bye featuring Dawson. (And I'm guessing we're not going to see any of his costars in the audience this season.)

  13. I am so happy the show is finally exposing Delilah as what we've been saying here for 2 seasons - a narcissist. I really hope they continue down this path and show her unraveling.

What's really stopping Katherine from telling Theo? She didn't promise anything. Plus, it seems she's spending more time with Charlie than Delilah is.

That ending montage with a cover of Yaz' Only You was great. I've always loved that song.

  14. Ellie "do as I say not as I do" Bishop demanding when Kasie was going to tell them about the evidence was particularly rich. Sure, Kasie shouldn't have kept it from the investigation but since when did *anyone* on the team actually abide by standards?

    Loved Vance giving his support.

I think the problem with this current crew is that - outside of Gibbs and McGee - none of the characters are interestingly developed (yet). I get they may not have wanted to go down the route of Ziva and her drama, but I'm not invested in these people's arcs like I was with Tony or Abby. Kasie's story this week had promise, though.

I'm not ready to give up yet, but it does feel like a very different show than it was even a few seasons ago.

I have to believe that the show is making us hate Delilah on purpose. No way are her narcissistic actions NOT on purpose. No way.

I've been wondering about this as well. DJ Nash seems to enjoy plot twists, so I'm hopeful Delilah is revealed for who she is. It will be interesting to see who in the group of friends supports continuing the lie.

I wish this show wasn't turning into The Maggie Show.  The first season seemed to be related to Jon, and she never met him.  The show's gotten really far away from Jon in general.  And Maggie's annoying.

She strikes me as the type who's smart and always quick with a quip but not necessarily mature and very entitled. Not fun in life and not fun to watch on a tv show.

Re: Gary's quip about Eddie sleeping with everyone in the group - didn't Gary date Regina way back when? I feel like that was mentioned in Season 1, but maybe I made that up.

  16. I liked this episode. As implausible as it was for the entire gang to have a day free to look for Colin, it gave the more fun characters opportunities to interact.

Interesting how Delilah's making her move on Andrew now that he's shown his vulnerable side. Isn't that how she swooped in on Eddie? We'll see if her revealing the (worst kept) secret to him comes back to bite her.

Katherine 3, Delilah 0 this episode for:

    • Taking care of her baby while Delilah was out on a podcast .. all day?!
    • Calling Delilah out on her lying - and shut up next episode Delilah for using your children as an excuse. You were ready to leave your husband.
    • And .. sharing how she used to have scotch in the evenings with Jon in his office.

    Looking forward to next week.

  17. I only had the show on in the background last night while taking care of something else, but it struck me how much the adult Bow sounded like her mom on this show. Something about their cadence or phrasing was similar, just like a mother and daughter in real life. I wonder if they did this on purpose.

The little snippets I caught still cracked me up - Johan's favorite movie being Cocoon.

I'm going to have to watch the episode in its entirety to be sure, but I felt they handled the conflicts between the girls well. They could easily go down an angry and confrontational route with these storylines but again they go with educating. The feeling was that even though their behavior was hurtful, the popular girls were more clueless and ignorant than hate-spewing.

  18. This show continues to crack me up. They're all functional disasters but ok with it.

The "You're the Best" montage was just awesome.

Between yesterday's Mixed-ish's "St. Elmo's Fire" montage, and Dex's mixed tape in Stumptown, the 80s are alive and well on ABC this season. And I love it!!

  19. This show continues to knock it out of the park. It makes me smile and laugh and reminisce about the 80s and what it's like to be a pre-teen.

Paul (squirming to explain his history): "Twel..maybe zero .. or did you mean hugs? I'm indiscriminate when it comes to hugs. Want one?"

    St. Elmo's Fire!

I love that Gary Cole's grandfather character bonded with Santamonica. And generally, I love Gary Cole, even if he's cornered the market on obnoxious boorish older relative roles. (He was the best part of last year's late season replacement Fam.)

I wonder if this is the Wonder Years of this generation.

Was I the only one hoping Katherine had switched the legal papers and was really tricking Delilah?  And does that make me a bad person?

Not the only one. I thought it was to give Eddie custody, but I like this better. Katherine owns Delilah. Man, that's sweet revenge.

Speechless at Delilah's outburst at Regina .. and Regina taking it. Is this a theme with Regina? I so hope the show writes in an arc where the friends all wise up and ostracize Delilah for being the needy, entitled princess she is. She can have her own spin-off where she lives on her own in LA (because Charlie would stay with Eddie, and Sophia and Danny go to Gary) and finds herself. And it would be canceled in 6 episodes because no one cares enough to watch it.

Maggie's sweater was beautiful. (I don't get how it would dry off so quickly, though.)

Side note - what does this show have against Indian food? In the first episode, Eddie was complaining about Katherine getting Indian takeout all the time, and sometime this season Maggie was also complaining about it.

Rome is still my favorite. He's just so ride or die. I want the show to explore his psyche more, rather than the never ending drama with Maggie.

but I couldn't help but feel bad for all the little girls who don't look like Sailor hearing this and thinking they couldn't be perfect Disney princesses.

Which is only ONE aspect of how horrorshow the Disney religion is.

To clarify my point, Disney itself has quite a diverse set of Princesses (equal opportunity $!); it was Bruno's completely innocuous comment that there was A perfect princess (I.e. blonde, blue eyed) that caught my attention.

But I do get your sentiment. It's a well-oiled engine.

  22. (small voice) I loved last night's show. Outside of James and Kel's dances, they used well-known, classic Disney songs, and it was fun seeing the celebrities spend time at Disneyland. I even didn't mind the constant commercials for the new Disney streaming service. I was *all in.*

Small cringe when Bruno made the innocuous comment that Sailor looked like the perfect Disney princess. She is beautiful, of course, but I couldn't help but feel bad for all the little girls who don't look like Sailor hearing this and thinking they couldn't be perfect Disney princesses.

  23. I realize this is a small detail but this is the type of thing that drives me nuts about Delilah. Hopefully I'm not remembering incorrectly, but I noticed that when Andrew called, Delilah's phone showed just "Andrew", yet when Regina called, it was "Regina Howard."

    • Does Delilah have more than one friend named Regina?
    • Does Delilah just not know Andrew's last name (which would be really weird because he's their investor)?
    • Is Delilah somehow so close to Andrew that no last name is required?

    Why?

This was the best episode of the season, thus far. Hilarious and poignant. I didn't even hate the cheesy meta of that "Saved By the Bell" line.

Ooh, which line? I missed it!

I'm loving this show. There's a sweetness and sincerity about the way it explores the "otherness" that many of us have experienced (or continue to experience) in our lives. It feels like it's aiming to educate, not pander, and even when there are laughs, it's with us, not at us.

I'm even liking Mark-Paul Gosselaar, who I hadn't realized is mixed himself. That scene with Santamonica at the end, doing her hair, was exactly what @truthaboutluv described - hilarious and poignant. (And who am I kidding, I'll watch Zach Morris on any show.)

I hope the show continues to have support, as there are many stories to tell here.

  25. Does anyone else remember when Ally McBeal was at the peak of its popularity, Fox created a 30 minute comedy from parts of the main 60 minute drama? They need to do that here, except instead of a comedy, it should be a 30 minute show of scenes without Delilah. I have no idea where the writers are going with her arc, but at this point, to me, she's nothing but an annoying side player in everyone else's drama.

That scene where Katherine recounted how she met Eddie and what he's meant to her was  gut wrenching to watch. It gave so much more depth and context to their relationship. Eddie, all impulse and today's excitement, is the yang to Katherine's high-achiever, type A, planning-for-tomorrow yin. (And yes, I also thought she was asking what Delilah had that she didn't have.) More than ever, I want them together and am convinced they are meant to be.
