That being said, has Sailor led such a pampered life that she's never experienced a thumbs-down moment?   She was crushed to be leaving (understandable) but she didn't seem to be able to deal with the shock and awe of it.   Life has ups AND downs, and I don't know if she's suffered many or any downs.   I could be wrong about that; just my take on it.

I got the feeling that once she started crying, she couldn’t stop, possibly because the magnitude of feeling embarrassed in front of millions of people - like, “Oh, this is so embarrassing that I’m upset, but the more I think about how embarrassed/upset I am, the more it makes me cry, and then I get more embarrassed.” I thought it was super evident that she’s not used to being vulnerable in front of a crowd.

  2. I’m enjoying the show more than I expected to, so I’ll continue to stick around. There’s no character I don’t like (even if I can’t call Bob’s brother anything but Badger). The only things that annoy me are the time bumpers (“A little later,” “That night,” etc - they’re too frequent and sometimes difficult to read, anyway) and the “Previously On,” which is too long (I get that they want to recap the continuing story, but it needs to be quicker - more like Glee’s manic recap used to be than just replaying a bunch of punch lines from last week).

I thought it kind of odd in Ally's promo, that as she shared what a huge fan she was of Selena and how much Selena influenced her in her career, they only showed clips of Jennifer Lopez portraying Selena in the film, rather than photos or clips of Selena.

Ah, you say, but this was movie night, and the point was to bring attention to memorable films.

Aha, I say, but when Karamo was talking about how important and iconic Reginald Dwight, or whatever he calls himself nowadays, is, they showed pictures of him, not clips from the movie Rocketman.

    Just sayin'.

Agreed. I initially thought Ally meant she was a big fan of Selena BECAUSE of the movie and was surprised when she said the families are friends.

Lamar can go anytime, but the judges’ scores this week we’re just plain rude. He was streets ahead of last week and somehow got the exact same score... ONE judge could have thrown an extra point in there, especially since they did for some others.

James, Kate, and Kel remain my favorites.

No way I could keep up but I'm enjoying following along.  I just have to say you must have gotten the latest update for your autocorrect.  (I'm assuming that was supposed to be couldn't keep up?)

Haha you are correct! And since it took me so long to catch it, I think that warrants an asterisk for you, too!

Thank you everyone for the nice words about the contest. I had fun being The Ref (great Denis Leary film, BTW) and it gave me a little something to make me feel quasi-important. Plus, being scorekeeper kept my feeble totals out of the spotlight. So there's that plus for me.

Some players aren't able to add their scores until Monday or Tuesday. After everyone is in, I'll announce the winners here. I can post the entire score list if ya'll want, or I can PM it. Up to yous guys.

I'd like to nominate me to be scorekeeper for Season 36 FJ Contest. All who vote for me, say EYE. I mean, aye. Just keep in mind, anyone who wants to usurp me, your scores aren't totaled yet.

    Eye, aye, please!!

i got way too far behind a few months ago and couldn’t keep up, but I’d love another chance to play next season!

I'm talking about the issues herein this thread; talking about 17 year olds.

I know, I was answering your question:  just calling them “teenagers” doesn’t solve the “children vs. underage women” debate because a teenager is not only someone who is underage.

Yeah, what's wrong with calling them what they are -- TEENAGERS!

I think the issue with just labeling them “teenagers” is that both a 13yo and 19yo for the definition, but one is legally an adult.

I really don't care for new Crystal at all.  I find myself wondering why she is even on the show.  I had some interest in the first Crystal and Blake relationship.  But this one does nothing for me.  I hope they dump her and find another Crystal.

PREACH!! Cristal 2.0 is a big ol’ snoozefest and I feel no connection between her and Blake. (Plus, I dig the idea of a new Crystal each season.)

Adam in drag as Fallon looked like Carmen San Diego. LOL.

I thought he was the spitting image of Stephanie March. I wouldn’t mind ADA Alex Cabot shaking things up in Atlanta.

  9. I tried the three-course prix fixe at Chef David Viana’s (S16) Heirloom Kitchen a couple weeks ago and I still can’t get over it. Hands down one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten! The meal started with a fennel gazpacho amuse; I then selected the ribs (garlic, white balsamic, truffle honey), duck (with crispy artichokes and the best damn falafel I have EVER tasted), and masala chai cake. The restaurant was bright and airy and welcoming, the service was superb, the wine is offered at retail prices, and every last bite was delicious - I left feeling completely satisfied but not stuffed. The price point is a little rich for me to be a regular, but I have every intention of returning once next season’s menu comes out! If you’re in the NJ area, I HIGHLY recommend it!

  10. I’m from NJ, where fat sandwiches are a Rutgers staple. The demo version was unrealistic - just too many items added for shock value. The samples were more along the line of a true fat sandwich (notice each had two or three of the demo ingredients, not all). I haven’t tried Fat Shack, but I am a former fat sandwich skeptic turned fan. They’re delicious, and sometimes it’s fun to indulge. But OH, did Mark’s enthusiasm irk me after the side-eye he gives other indulgent food products. Methinks he saw the arena potential and his eyes turned into cartoon dollar signs.

I don't like Brother as a chef either. But that doesn't excuse the behavior of the other chefs, nor would I treat Brother like that had I been on the show. Did anyone act like that towards Lee Anne last season? Did anyone fist pump when she had to bow out? No, actually all the chefs were exceedingly nice towards her, and they actually seemed sad when she had to go. They didn't act like that towards Claudette either, even though they had good reason to. This is the first season I have seen any animosity towards a LCK winner. That is why I liked last season so much more.

I’m wondering if the fact that this group had the LCK winner coming back after a group challenge had some effect on the group wanting to band together separate from the newcomer (who was actually a veteran). Like, they just had to work together on the last task, and then, BOOM! New Person crashing the party - I feel like there’s a different dynamic when the LCK winner comes back after an individual challenge where each chef was solely responsible for their dish and they were all directly competing with one another. I know they’re still ultimately opponents even when teamed up, but the extra collaboration and support probably plays with their emotions.

I don’t know why they have such issues with LCK! On my cable’s on demand the episode marked episode 7 and with the correct description is actually the first episode! I know there are other places to view it but I don’t really care enough.

That happened for me, too (Optimum/Cablevision/Altice/ lwhatever name they use this week)! I had to watch via the Bravo app (on Roku). Luckily, I had it set up from last week because neither of the mini-Restaurant Wars episodes were on the OnDemand when I was watching over that weekend. And there’s still one random episode from a past season showing under Top Chef. I can’t imagine this is such a difficult thing to organize that it needs to be continuously messed up.

Chimney has a good voice! JLH has always sung (she put out some unsuccessful albums) and I feel like she probably makes it a part of her contracts to sing every once in a while, but I didn't know Chimney could sing. They sounded nice together.

I have an inexplicably vivid memory of reading an interview she did with Disney Adventures (mid-90s) to promote “Let’s Go Bang”... But since her music career is so rarely referenced, a part of me always wondered if I dreamt the article.

I wasnt a fan of Buck 1.0, so this episode wasn’t my favorite. But I’m definitely digging the season overall.

I thought the idea of the "restaurant that insults people" was a sly reference to Roseanne's start as a comic. She was a waitress and her smart mouth got to be a thing, so people started coming back just to hear her schnick /jokes.  Then she started to comedy clubs.  Darklene is becoming a smarter, cooler,  PC-type Roseanne--and I mean that in a good way. Roseanne struck a nerve about housewives, working poor, and real people back in the day.

I’m pretty sure they were referencing a chain like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dick's_Last_Resort

Jeezum, I'd like to attend your next mini-mingle if that's okay with you.

Hello! ;) You can join me anytime!

I can’t believe I let myself get so far behind - I’ve been avoiding the threads so I wouldn’t accidentally see an answer, and after much binge/mingling, I’ve finally caught up. My score is clear evidence of the current burnout:

    Week 5: 3/5; Week 6: 3/5; Week 7: 0/5

Full disclosure, I did get so far as “Is it whatever the creature is in Beowulf?” But since my 11th grade English class was the only one in the school that didn’t read it, I didn’t even realize I had heard the name before. Whoops!

(Methinks this weekend will be reserved for recharging my brain.)

I found that podcast fascinating.  Tim is quirky (understatement).  When he is given a gift he doesn't/cannot open it.  One time he left an unwrapped gift on top of his refrigerator and weeks later he noticed it was oozing and smelled bad, it was food!

He hates Nina and Zac.  He mentioned Nina talking to everyone having come back from a weekend in Long Island complaining about not being to get a table (at a restaurant).  He said I HATE that.

He has the same routine everyday.  He gets up, makes and drinks his coffee then goes back to make his bed to shower and dress.  He has an evening/dinner routine too.  I have forgotten that one.  There is a link to that in a thread last season probably in his thread.  It is worth finding it.

The podcast is Really Famous, hosted by Kara Mayer Robinson. Most of her interviews are good, but Tim’s is a standout.

    How on

I feel like the only thing they can do at this point is have it so Anna and Alex were patients for the memory mapping before Jason and Drew and Alex really had Peter.  It would be stupid, of course, but it would be a stupid that would fix the stupid they already did rather than doubling down on the stupid already done.

This is now canon in my head regardless of what they decide to do on-screen.

  18. I’m nipping the heels of the 1/5 crowd.

(Full disclosure, I haven’t watched Friday's episode yet and I read the answer in the episode thread before I saw the question, so I’m counting it as a no... although with the current competition categories, I’m hoping no one sees this as cheating! Haha.)
