I liked last night's movie - although I've already forgotten the name - Christmas Inn perhaps? Rachel Boston was the female lead

Anyway - the reason I enjoyed it:

No dead bodies - no young widow/widower coping on his/her own

No divorced or abandoned spouses coping on his/her own

No too cute, too young children actively engaged & loving the soon-to-be new stepparent

No silly misunderstanding that is solved in the final 10 minutes of the movie - even the generations old family feud seemed more of a friendly annoyance than a real fight

Agree...but Rachel’s false eyelashes looked terrible!

I clicked on "Theme" at bottom of page, next to Font Size.  It listed three choices one above the other:-IPS default, Light (default) or Dark.  I chose Dark just to test it & it did change to dark. Hope this helps

I restarted my iPad and Voila! dark was listed as a choice! I should know better. Restarting always seems to solve a myriad of problems. My eyes are happy now.

    (yay!!)

This is one of my all time favorite Staples commercials from 1996.

I was a teacher (retired now). Every year my husband sang that song to me when school began because my paychecks would start coming in again!

  4. There was an interesting article in our paper today written by a 25 year old wife who recently miscarried a baby at 13 weeks. I know Lauren was not that far along, but I see many similarities between this lady’s thoughts and how Lauren is acting.  Here’s a quote from her rather lengthy article: “I’m a freelance social media manager and also have a blog with a decent-sized following, so social media plays an important role in my life. I share all aspects of my life online—it’s not for everyone, but I enjoy being authentic with the people who follow me. And at this time, I needed everyone to understand the gravity of my loss. I first shared news of my miscarriage on Facebook and Instagram out of necessity—I needed an efficient way to let thousands of people know I wasn’t pregnant anymore—but I continued posting regular updates about grief because it was cathartic.  There are downsides to sharing, of course. I received insensitive comments from well-meaning people who told me my miscarriage was part of God’s plan. I’ve gone to therapy and talked to a psychiatrist about how I feel. Sharing my miscarriage with the world is a choice I don’t regret. After all, there’s nothing to be ashamed of.”

Sorry for the length, but what I took away from this article is that everyone grieves differently. I personally wouldn’t have chosen social media. But we have to respect each individual’s way of grieving.

  5. We had 3 families from my church that went full-on Gothard in the late 80’s.  They each had a slew of babies (one guy even had a reversed vasectomy) after having kids who were teens at that time, they homeschooled, and embraced the belief completely. And now.....they are all divorced. I’ve lost connection with them to feel like I could ask them what happened, but the wives still attend church, (not mine) but much more main -streamed beliefs now.

  6. Re: Columbus couple. I agree with everyone that yes, he appeared miserable.  However, “man-child” was the perfect term for him.  Dude, grow up! He only thought of his own comfort and happiness in life. He didn’t seem to want to make a happy life with her, or anyone else for that matter.  He said, “The life style we live is really fun right now. And I don’t know if I really want to cut back at this point in my life”. That says it all.

  7. Do cameramen, directors and producers secretly hate these TV reality stars? Everyone of them are shown in the worst light and they act like imbeciles. Kate, the Busbys, the Kleins, the Sister Wives, House Hunter buyers, and so many more that I refuse to watch. Is the almighty dollar so important to them that they would allow this to happen?

  8. That is exactly why we bought a fire pit. We are not “sit around a fire and roast marshmallows “ kind of people. We bought it to burn documents. First of all, it’s safe because fire pits are made to be safe and they are legal in my area. Just burning a pile of papers on the ground is not.

I envy all you people who don’t freeze. I used to be one of them. When menopause came knocking I was hot cold hot cold about every 45 minutes. It was horrible. Now that menopause is past I am very sensitive to cold. Which apparently is the pattern for women in my family. Thanks, mom. 😞

I am like you. But I never got hot flashes. I always got cold flashes which my Gyn said is rare, but normal. I live in FL and sleep with a blanket all year round. I just cannot be cold anymore, then I’m miserable.

  10. My 34 year old son went to the ER a couple of weeks ago for heart palpitations and pain between his shoulder blades. Although he’s in great shape (he’s a runner), heart problems run in my family and I didn’t want to chance it. Long story short, he’s fine, but he got the bill today’s mail...$3200 total, his insurance paid about $3000, he has to pay $120.  Anyone using an ER for minor maladies is crazy. And I suppose Gil told them he was unable to pay because he had a bazillion kids. No wonder health care is so expensive.

The shoulder/arm area is making me squirm as well. It looks as if he wouldn't be able to raise his arms above waist level with those tight sleeves.

That must be the style now for men who are relatively slim. We have a meteorologist on our local TV who is very slim, but his suit jackets are cut so tight he can hardly raise his arms. That’s got to be so uncomfortable!
