  1. If you will recall in that episode Bill and Jen were both wearing winter coats. As a life long SoCal resident, it does get cold here sometimes. I also get when you are going through a trauma like Jen did you try to make things as normal as possible.

Perhaps, but it's Houston.  As I recall, during the episode in which she got the wig, Bill remarked that wearing it enabled her to forget she was sick or feel well or something to that effect.

  2. "Making memories!"  Kate Gosselin's favorite rationalization...  I mean, quote.  Actually, again not to rain on the TLC parade, but children actually don't retain many memories "made" before the age of five.  Of course, they'll have these episodes to look back on!  Whether with delight or abject horror remains to be seen...

Exactly.  So why take such care to wear the turban or wig every time she left the house?  I was SMH at that!  But, of course, it's her head and her hair.

As I recall she was sick during the winter. Maybe her head got cold without the turban or wig.

  3. IMO if Jen wanted in the backyard it's a death trap.  Jen has a nice closet she is spoiled.  Her closet is nothing compared to the Real Housewives of anything. IMO the issue of having the kids on TV is a fair point on which thoughtful people can disagree, but some of this stuff IMO is an excuse to rag on Jen because she is not everybody's cup of tea.

  4. I suppose it depends how you would define good.  If you mean material wealth and modern medical care, I suppose they're better off, although I don't subscribe to the notion that they were in one of Dante's rings before (particularly Will).  Is it "good" to have your childhood exploited on TV for financial gain?  Not in my opinion.  Let us be careful not to frame these adoptions as acts of charity.  I view them more as the attainment of ambitions, not to say purchases, and can only hope that the quest for ratings didn't enter into the equation at all.

Look at Zoey then and now.

  5. As someone pointed out earlier, the pool will be useful to all of the family for years to come, unlike a swingset, sandbox, or jungle gym.  The kids are getting water safety lessons ( we saw Will, so I will assume Zoey will too) and the pool is fenced. I have always lived in Southern California and having a pool that takes up the entire yard is not rare. There are some who believe the Arnold-Kleins should not be on TV and that is a fair point.  However I my opinion I have not seen anything that makes them unfit parents. I am beginning to realize for some, just being on TV trumps all the good they have done for these kids, at least that's how it comes across to me.

  6. I hope this is appropriate but I don't understand the purpose of writing A Minor Consideration. Are they going to make Jen and Bill stop the show? If so wouldn't they have to do the same for all reality shows that feature minors? If not the Kliens have a slam dunk EEO case based on disability. If people believe Will and Zoey are being abused or neglected shouldn't they be reported to child protective services? If not I don't think anyone can tell them how to handle their own kids.

  7. I look at this show like the first Cosby show. Some Black folks complained the show was atypical of the average Black family and the situations were not realistic. These things were true. What the show did do was make America more comfortable with Black people. I don't expect the Little Couple to be a documentary. The fact that many people have fallen in love with Bill and Jen and kids helps take away the fear of little people. One of this family's critics said the didn't think of the family as little any more. And that in y opinion is the point.

I also think some of the Jen hate is sexist but that's another post.

  8. I did not see Jen endanger Zoey’s life. If that had been the case wouldn’t someone have called child protective services? Yes she left Zoey alone with an open drawer. I am sure there was nothing there that could hurt Zoey. Jen seemed more than capable of carrying a tray of homemade sandwiches (they did not look professionally made to me, and even if they were so what?) The tea was not hot because Jen could stick her finger in it. As for nap time, there is nothing wrong with calming a child down so they go to sleep. She was going to turn the lights off and get a book. Jen knows whether or not Zoey can get out of bed.
