  1. That's how I remember it too. I also remember them being paried in the first round against cannon fodder who still outsang them but Adam carried them through so ... I think he fulfilled as much of his promise as he could.
  2. Tyanna and Maddie are 16 so why does Daniel being 15 excuse his sucking that hard? A double elimination week is a good opportunity to chop Daniel. If he survives again, we might lose Tyanna this week, which would be unfortunate but she really gave the worst performance last night (other than Daniel). This may be heresy but Joey's performance was better than Adam Lambert's ...... His second performance of Mad World that is. The first time was awesome; the second time was just really good. For the contestants who generally sing in tune, what matters to me is usually how well they connect to the material. I thought Joey had that connection so I enjoyed it. I agreed with Harry that Qaasim gave the performance of the night so I think they were right to save him. I think the time to use the save is when you are appalled before they sing that they were in the bottom (Sanchez) or like this week when they absolutely kill their performance.
  3. I think she was 90% joking around to make him believe her about opening his eyes -- she did add that joke about "any questions for me? like my number?" She was being very cute with them. But I do agree that at least 10% of it was her really thinking he was attractive. I sooooo agree with Blueray about the Voice's constant spoiling away any moment of tension. WHY DO THEY ALWAYS DO THIS???? It's just irritating. Finally, I think it's atrocious that an hour-long music competition only show 3 songs. There's no reason why they can't get in at least one performance every 15 minutes.
  4. Heh, I'm not worried that they'll learn any new language and I'm not bothered by cursing either. That was more of a general "parents get criticised for every choice they make" kind of comment ;)
  5. My kids are 11 and 13 so maybe I shouldn't let them watch the show because of all the cursing but they get a huge kick out of it and they totally get the substance behind it too.
  6. I fast forward through Daniel but I'm totally unsurprised by his sticking around and not really angry about it. Some of the other singers are still pretty forgettable and indistinguishable from each other. Daniel adds something different to the telecast so he gets votes. (Whether I hate what he brings to the show or not is besides the point.) I figure he'll go out between 7th and 10th place. Admittedly, I will be getting seriously annoyed by the time he does leave. I would like to add one drop of praise for the show as whole this season: this seems to me to be a much more diverse group of contestants than they usually have -- both in singing style and background. Isn't it usually a sea of white guys, some girls that get picked off and a few token minorities? This group is more authentically varied and it's led to some more interesting shows.
  7. I actually thought going into that Finals that Adam's contestants were the underdogs. Some people vote for and against coaches. Adam having maintained his team so well throughout the competition meant that Adam supporters were split between his vocalists. It also didn't help that there was some genre overlap between Adam's two top contenders. Pharrell shouldn't have offered up Meghan to the other coaches like that. I get that it's a way of protecting his artists but I really wanted to see what they could do together. I also wish she hadn't picked Blake and said something like that she didn't want to put a friend in the spot of having to choose between her and another singer. It's going to sting really hard if Blake let's her go in the knockouts ...
  8. My cable company just handed out a few months of free HBO and I saw this series for the first time last night. I was very pleasantly surprised although some of the jokes were a bit uncomfortable for me because they were too close to real life. As others pointed out, the dom/sub scene went so badly in part because she gave him absolutely no warning earlier in the day that he should be prepared to go along with her lead on a date night. One vague text to prepare him and it all goes way differently. But ... that's just surface comedy writing stuff necessary to allow a funny scene to happen. On a deeper level, that was prrobably the worst fantasy to have him act out on that evening. He'd just spent the entire day being dominated and emasculated at work and now his wife wanted him to act out the same position at home. I bet his character would have tried to go along with it given a few minutes to prepare but boy I'll bet that wasn't his fantasy that night.
  9. I thought Meghan Trainor had to be lipsyncing - her mike was completely off when she tried to respond to a comment from Carson immediately after she finished ... or did I imagine that? As someone in his 40s, I can totally understand name-checking Michelle Pfeiffer if any of the songwriters were over the age of 35 (or into movies from the 80s). Back in the day, oh my god was she pretty. I would also say that modern music is no worse than most of what was popular back then. I still remember bands like Mister Mister when I was in school.
