Thanks to S2E4 I can't stop watching the 1969 Tonys recording of "Turkey Lurkey Time". Well, I suppose there are worse fates :)

Someone in the Schmigadoon subreddit had an interesting theory/speculation...
That Melissa will need to realize you don't need life to be perfect to be happy and have a "happy ending" and analogously to how Josh had his big realization the first time he sang at all last season, Melissa will have her realization while singing a song with imperfect rhymes for the first time.

Topher's little mini-song before skulking off to his tent was some JCS reference, right? Musically I specifically got a "Superstar" vibe off it in the rhythm and instrumentation.

In the orphans song at the end, right before the little tap routine with Codwell and one of the orphans we had the "It's a Hard Knock Life" riff, didn't we?

Pluto TV, which is owned by Paramount Global, will live FAST stream Strange New Worlds Season 1 for free beginning Thursday, April 20, 2023. For exact dates and times you will need a guide. With FAST streams you have no control of the episode, all you can do is "watch" at the time that it comes on, it will stream with commercials.
It is believed that the Strange New Worlds / Star Trek: Lower Decks crossover will be episode 7.
A retro experience for a retro show! 😎

Did Trek ever make any sort of official connection between Trelane and the Q?
You keep mentioning Star Trek references in Futurama. I never could get into Futurama. Makes me think I should give it another chance, except I am always looking for opportunities to pare down my TV viewing.
You should at least watch the episode "Where No Fan Has Gone Before", starring the actual voices of several ST:TOS stars.

The release dates for the final episodes is on the death date? That is kind of hilarious.
Well, death date minus a year. But yeah :)

One thing I’ve found interesting about this season is that the songs are much more 1:1 with specific songs. Last season while there were a few of those it was more general style parodies.
For this season I really recommend going on YouTube and watching a bunch of songs from Sweeney, Chicago, Pippin, Cabaret, etc.
For example, you’ll appreciate much more the geekiness of the writers if you watch “Magic to Do” and “Corner of the Sky” from Pippin, “Mein Herr” from Cabaret, “Worst Pies in London” from Sweeney Todd, and so on.
The breakdown articles that Playbill is doing are also really useful.

That song pinged some Into the Woods feelings for me. I can't exactly say why, but it definitely popped in there.
Well, I was right that it was Sondheim-y. But it was a patch on "Worst Pies in London" from (what else :) ) Sweeney Todd.

Ah! Yes! There was SOMETHING that made me think into the woods at one point but I can’t remember what! It’s not really in the “right” era as it’s late 80’s but I think sometimes there are extra little Easter eggs for die hard theater nerds.
They also played some “Into the Woods”-y riff in the underscore back when Josh and Melissa were in the woods looking for Schmigadoon in the first episode of the season.

Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure I heard some of “Into The Woods” as instrumental background when they were ….. in the woods, looking for Schmigadoon in the beginning.
Yes, definitely. Thought the same thing.

Here's another interview (or different writeup of the same interview?)

Sigh. That was an irritating episode. So much pointless technobabble and ad hoc-ery — even for this show! We couldn’t roll our eyes hard enough at the “the Ians have to enter the code at the same time” babble as just one example.
Ben still has better chemistry with anyone other than Addison than with Addison.
The end was a cop-out too, though I suppose it made a modicum of sense if when this ep was made it had to function as both a season finale and a series finale. (Did it? I don’t know the production timeline.)

Is the Riptide crew actually a bunch of total assholes or do they just play one on TV?

Well, I see just like last year the Crows stuff is infinitely more interesting than anything involving Alina and the Boyfriend of Blandness.

I didn’t mind the “wokeness” (though I did think it came out too pat). What I did mind was the overweening anviliciousness at times — in particular the scene at trans group when that father is delivering his monologue and we have that series of 4th-wall-breaking zoomins on the kids staring straight into the camera.
The mark of very sub-par writers.

The puzzle-box part of this show is so stupid and forced. The pathetic and unrealistic ways they stall and stall and stall giving any information is ridiculous. If that's how you're going to play the present day part of the show then please for the love of god eliminate the present day part of the show.

Well, the one on the 16th made total sense — no point competing against an NFL playoff game.
I don’t understand the one on the 23rd though. Is there some big awards show or something on another network?

There was too much of that. They should have been required to figure it out on their own for a real test of traveling skills. Isn't that what this show should be about?
Yeah. I actually found the finale pretty boring because of that. "Oooh, carry three guitars down the street" Yawwwwwwwwn.
When I become Race Czar :). one thing that's gonna happen is there will be a 2hr penalty for each time a team asks a bystander to look something up on their phone or to borrow their phone..15 hours ago, Cotypubby said:On the piano challenge, I don't think it was the piano itself that played the Amazing Race theme. Just that once they pressed the keys in the correct order in time, the live orchestra would begin playing the theme. Otherwise wouldn't they have to hit some of the same keys multiple times? That wouldn't work with each image being different. And how would the theme only be 11 notes?
I was confused by that as well and eventually came to your conclusion.
Because when Phil first said what the task was we were thinking "if someone plays piano and has a good ear they can just do the task without worrying about the images!"
So doing what they actually did prevented that.- 3

Am I the only one that thinks the actor playing Karn, Kyle Soller (I had to check imdb) looks like a young Henry Thomas?
I think he looks more like a young Kyle McLachlan. Maybe he’ll get to eat some imperial cherry pie…
