I believe she is a Lanthanite.... although, she might have said "Actinite"? I always get those rows of the periodic table mixed up... 😁
It was Lanthanite. Presumably, like the semi-row in the periodic table, it comes from the Greek λανθανειν (lanthanein), "to lie hidden".

I was surprised that his panic attack disappeared so quickly when Zava scored. Can that actually happen?
Yes, it can. I get panic attacks sometimes and what often works for me is something to draw my focus away from my body (like calling someone and talking with them, etc.). The key -- for me -- is to get me to stop noticing my heart rate, distract me from the "Am I dying?" thoughts, etc.

The genetic enhancement makes sense if you are afraid that it will take over the basic race and that only the 1 percent who can afford it will live long and prosper in society, so I get the initial issues and the fear that a lot of people would have about disrupting society.
There's also the issue of what enhancements might actually do. Una's lawyer was arguing that genes don't affect how people act, but that's not necessarily true. What if some enhancement greatly increases the chances that those augments are violent? Seems like that would be pretty bad especially if those same enhancements give extra strength or intelligence.
There are also arguments akin to why performance-enhancing drugs are banned in sports today. If you don't ban them you are basically forcing everyone in the sport to take them or have no chance of being able to compete.

And what was the point of Michaela breaking up with Jared? Those people, that family of 3, ceased to exist. Drea's baby was never conceived much less born. All that stuff about him having "hope" for the future when Hope was snuffed out of existence.
I thought that part actually made sense. Due to the wiped-out timeline Mick realized that she and Jared were fundamentally incompatible, in no small part because he really wants to be a father -- and in that timeline (which she remembers) she directly saw how much he wants to be one -- and she doesn't want kids.

Internet, nitpicking, etc., but the asylum resolution makes no sense whatsoever.
Una is seeking asylum from the government that's persecuting her...in the government that's persecuting her. That's like, say, a gay person being persecuted by Uganda seeking asylum in Uganda. Whaaaaaaa?
Not to mention that asylum isn't some grant of "ok, our laws don't apply to you now."

Well, TAS actually isn't considered canon...
There are things that do come out of TAS that is now canon. "Tiberius" being Kirk's middle name came out of TAS. I think Yesteryear is officially canon, but that's the only episode that is. An early holodeck episode comes from TAS. And now, Robert April is the captain of the Enterprise before Pike.
But Roddenberry declared it as not being canon like two years after TAS was cancelled, and I don't think a lot of fans go "Well it should be..."
Well, given that Lower Decks is canon (I haven't heard that it isn't, and then we'll be getting the crossover with SNW which certainly is canon) and that LD has loads of TAS references...

But I confess I’m a little fuzzy on the timeline: have the events of “The Cage” already happened?
I'm pretty sure it has.

Decent enough episode and it's not like courtroom dramas are foreign to Trek. However, I would have liked it better if it were only 1/26th of the season rather than 1/10th of the season. As it is, the season is now 20% gone and we haven't had any proper SNW adventuring. But now with the band back together maybe we can get back into the groove.

So now it’s confirmed April was the previous captain of the Enterprise. Nice to know.
Hasn’t that been known since TAS?

What I did was read the Wikipedia episode summaries for Seasons 1 and 2. I suppose if you want more detail than that you could also read what Memory Alpha & Beta have to say about those episodes. Seemed to give me enough background. (As well as convincing me I had zero reason to ever watch Discovery).

I have realized the show is great at making you think something happened during the episode but then once it ends and you reflect on it even a little bit you realize that almost nothing has happened and you’ve learned nothing.

OMG. This show just gets stupider and stupider. I'm only watching it to see how things get wrapped up, but I'm not enjoying it. Thank god I only have 5 episodes to go. If there were another 10 to go at this point I don't know if I'd make it.

That first scene on the mining planet had to be a callout to Raiders of the Lost Ark, right?
Unlike many here I generally enjoyed the episode. And Kane's character. Though I was quite disappointed the episode was essentially Pikeless.

Spock! What a mess now. How does this guy go from crying over Chapel , to the almost pulse is dead eyebrow raising Spock of TOS?
Spock wasn't "almost pulse is dead, etc." in "The Cage" so you can ask a similar question about that too, I suppose.

Also this:
And according to r/Battlebots Riptide did appeal (and lost their appeal -- even going from losing by a split decision to losing unanimously) but that was edited out.

The First Season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds can be Streamed for Free on YouTube until June 30, 2023, after that you will have to pay to watch it.
If you don't want to have to wade through ads, I hear that Amazon Prime Video is also streaming it for free for now.

Finally was able to get around to watching the rest of the season.
Riptide should have been disqualified from the tournament after that epic weigh-in shadiness. The rules (according to the televised show) are that you can't mess with your bot after weigh-in. Well, if your bot now magically weighs 2lb less after weigh-in then you clearly touched something even if the "inspectors" were unable to find it. Should have been an instant and obvious DQ without a second's thought. (Though I suppose given the WWE nature of the show the producers weren't going to let that happen.)
Relatedly, my favorite image of the entire season was during the closing credits of the championship episode where see the entire pit area standing and cheering wildly when Copperhead enters the pits after having defeating those shady Riptide cheating assholes.

Is Lower Decks in TNG concurrent timeline?
Slightly after it. For example, there's an episode where they visit a post-Sisko DS9 and meet Kira (who is in charge of the station) and Quark (who now has a whole chain of Quarks across the galaxy).

Do we know that there will be a Season 3? This ending could easily serve as a series finale.
We (and Cinco) are all waiting to see what Apple decides.

1) The episode is out! (Dropped at 9pm EDT tonight)
2)
SpoilerSo in the first season finale the final song hinted at this season by picking up a lot of 60s vibes (the style, the tambourines, etc.)
Anything like that this time around? I didn't get any sense of an era from that final song.

S02.E03: Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow
in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds
Pretty lousy episode. Very painful that 10% of the season was burned on that. And now 30% of the season is gone and we've still not had even a single all-the-crew-together episode. Very disappointing. I don't like Capt Jim T. Carrey either.
The sole highlight of the show was Carol Kane.
