  1. Sign: Welcome to Grimsburg: Be Afraid, Be Very Afraid. Also, Welcome!

I liked seeing 80s Lawyer again.

Amy Sedaris! The Lil Betsy plot seemed like this show's take on Baby Doll from Batman: TAS. But here, she seduced Marvin into testifying for her, who was getting high on being a fake celebrity. But it was a ruse to get Lil Betsy to confess to the murder.

I chuckled at Mount Taj, where you see montages of your ascent in the plot.

  2. Boat: Boatlejuice

Wolf's Shirt: Fart of Your World

Alanis is back! Man, it really feels like the show outgrew needing her if Judy just flips her off. I liked how punchy this episode was in general. Bob's Burgers has started to feel, I dunno, tame? This show is becoming more chaotic, with Aunt Dirt, and Judy and Kima getting high on edibles, to the songs.

I could go the rest of my life without hearing the phrases "Humid Hoagie Hive", "Sog Squad", and "Moist Militia", Wolf. The Wet Wolf sounds gross as hell, no wonder it got taken off the menu. I mean, a single slice of swiss cheese covered in a cup each of mayo, ketchup, thousand island dressing, mustard and relish sounds like a pain in the ass to ear, let alone to clean up. And actually seeing them in person just confirmed it.

  3. "I call it a play."
    "(gasps) The opposite of work!"

Ok, we finally know what Shlub is: a Manotaur. That metamorphosis was gross, but I also liked the designs of all the monsters Deliria had to kill.

It was a really cool idea to be able to huff muses to get inspiration like smoking a hookah. I really liked the animation on the inspiration trips: Stupendous gets inspired to create a fitness regimen for troops, Hippo gets the idea for written language, while Tyrannis gets inspired to create representational democratic republics. And he hates it. Gotta admit, the muse-inspired deaths were pretty creative. I also liked that the key to defeating the muses was to weaponize Tyrannis's shame Ghostbuster-style.

  4. Well, Moe is a bookie, so of course he never actually gambled before.

I got a chuckle out of the Quimbys having their own RFK Jr.

We finally got an episode about Larry The Barfly (and he actually has a last name: Dalrymple), and now he's dead. I liked the Eleanor Rigby-style song about him, too. Turns out he was a jewel smuggler for Fat Tony. Who knew?

I was wondering where Barney was, but he was in South America building a well for a village. And where was Sam, for that matter? He was the other unnamed barfly, he was the guy who wore the hat.

Seth, seriously, get over yourself. We get it, you’re anti religion. But even the South Park guys had the humility to acknowledge that even without religions, the human race would find something to hate about each other.

Honestly, they could've done more with God forcing religion as a fixed point of time outside of playing that card in the last two minutes of the episode.

And I was expecting the timeline where Stewie paid Moses to walk away would've caused everyone to be Muslim instead.

  6. Once again, Brian gets a human girlfriend. But for once, it's a vet that's around dogs. Perfect in every way EXCEPT she's an evangelical Christian. And of course, he was horny and she wouldn't have sex with him and he made it everyone's problem.

And thanks to Road to The Multiverse, we know what happens when there's no Christianity: super advanced science and yet there's still a Sistine Chapel, but Andre The Giant is on the ceiling. But this time, everyone's Jewish.

In other topics, Melissa's impressions, so to speak, were amazing XD. I don't know what was funnier, her trying to impersonate people or Barbara just looking at her constantly like, "...please stop...".

I was living for Melissa's awful impressions, and how they managed to get worse.

  8. Love that the lunch people were JUST serving Mr. Johnson. And he thought it was trash! Love it.

"Have you ever tried just being hinged?" Ava was great tonight. Of course THIS TIME not only did the guest of honor show up, Quest backed up all of Ava's stories.

"I don't know who that's supposed to be, but he sounds responsible." Barbara's look of terror at Melissa's Austin Powers impression needs to be bottled.

Man, you could just feel the cold feet on Janine all episode. Yeah, Barbara's card got her over the hurdle, but the kids signing the card being the clincher was so sweet. Well, we knew that Janine was gonna come back to Abbott, but THIS soon? Well, it's a short season, after all.

  9. Sign: We Put The "Der" in Murder!

More of Harmony and Wynona's friendship! And a Stan/Dr. Pentos team-up! Man, Stan really gets the shaft, does NO ONE care about his well-being?

"Either your dad finds you alive, or you get a scholarship named after you and everyone pretends they liked you! I call that a win/win!"

    Man, that was dark.

  10. TWO episodes tonight!

    Idita-Ruth Adventure:

Boat: The 40 Year Old Sturgeon

    Wolf's Shirt: Air Butt

Ooh, a banned books episode. And we get more of Bethany! SHE'S Double Boobs! I liked how she had no passion in art. "Look at these penises, they have no joy in them."

I enjoyed Wolf's plot. He has SUCH normal calming breaths, and he's so normal his pancakes were drowning in syrup. Not surprised that his anxiety towards Ruth comes from his own unresolved issues with his own mom. I loved all his country songs, the one he sang at the Iditarod was really sweet.

"No mysteries, I'd like to sleep tonight."

    A Chug's Life Adventure:

    Boat: Yeah, Buoy!

Wolf's Shirt: Gas To The Tooter

Yep, Aunt Dirt is such a great addition to the show. I'm appreciating plots that show people with sadder lives than hers, like Cheesecake or Doug.

Drunk Beef is certainly a new one, but it is always a good formula to shows to get characters drunk that don't normally do so. I was living for Drunk Beef singing The Humpty Hump.

And I love everyone acknowledging that Moon is the best driver in the family.

I laughed so hard at the Beavis sketch I woke up my husband who was in another room behind a closed door. It was just so silly. I never laugh for real at SNL.

Just the image of Ryan Gosling as a perfect Beavis was incredible, and THEN Mikey as an even more perfect Butt-Head!

I can't stop giving enough props to SNL's makeup and wardrobe department.

  12. Cold Open: Okay, we're starting with the alien abduction sketch again. Speaking of replaying hits, Kate McKinnon is back! Amazing that Sarah was the only one NOT breaking. But I'll be honest, I was never a fan of these sketches. The one where Kate was kidnapped by Krinklemaus the Christmas Elf was my favorite of those.

Monologue: It's actually been a while since we've gotten a song monologue. But this one's about Ken. Liked Emily Blunt's turn singing about Oppenheimer.

Harrison: Poor Brad. This is why I don't like being alone with the one other guy at a gathering. Ryan was fun in this. Even if he kept breaking. Again.

Get That Boy Back: This was a fun song. Chloe Troast got to lead a pre-tape song, and boy did she deliver.

Accents: "I love countries and places." Honestly shocked that Ryan played a white guy, his accent sounded more convincing than Marcello's. And I'm shocked that they got the dog from Beethoven (even though the real one most likely died 30 years ago)

Newsnation: "Ryan Gosling dressed as Beavis" was NOT on my bingo card tonight. I was dying every time they cut to him and Mikey as Butt-Head. Loved the King of The Hill capper at the end. That HAD to be the first time Heidi saw the makeup job, since she broke almost immediately.

WU: There, we got the OJ jokes out of the way. Che was having way too much fun tonight. And then Caitlin Clark came on and Colin showed a supercut of Che's jokes about women's sports. AND THEN made Che read jokes she wrote.

And we got a Longfellow spot! The dry humor gave me Norm vibes, in a good way.

Doctors: For once, Ryan's giggling made his character even more unsettling. I completely forgot we've seen Bowen's character before, he was from Nate Bargatze's episode.

Erin Brockovich: Yeah, no surprise that Ryan couldn't keep it together for this, either. Once again, Kenan shows up to save the sketch.

Everyone was extra giggly tonight, mostly Ryan Gosling. I expect a few dress rehearsal versions in the reruns (especially the Beavis & Butt-Head one), and a few cut for time sketches tomorrow.

Dua Lipa does double duty next time.

  13. Peter brings the perfect Fat Guy Energy to playing Chris Christie.

And poor Meg, being left on ring on Facetime even with Brad Pitt with her.

I enjoyed the self-aware song about how hard it is to make a movie, and this very show.

  14. Barbara of all people using AI?! I mean, it was to avoid Jacob's emails, but man, I was right that being work besties bring out the worst in her and Melissa. I got a laugh out of Jacob's face on using it on Mr. Johnson.

"What's up Autobots? Or should I say DECEPTICONS?!" was my line of the night.

Of course Janine would gather the staff for an after school meeting to announce she was taking the district job. A meeting that could've been an email, she's already perfect for the job. But since that announcement came in act 1, I knew it wasn't gonna last. Well, the look on her face at the end did say it all.

Ava finally found the perfect replacement for Janine: an exact clone of her. If the title is any indication, next week is gonna involve Ava dealing with her. And that was out of 536 applicants. I don't think there are that many people applying for teaching jobs in the state of Pennsylvania.

I really liked that Carissa just wasn't into that guy. Not that she wasn't into him because he was gay or her cousin, but that he just wasn't her type. So many shows would have gone down the gay or family member way.

Yeah, that was refreshing. I was honestly expecting him to be gay, or be her cousin.

Knowing that Mocha Joe et al., were going to testify, I would have liked to see Larry's lawyer get into it as much as Larry does. "You're coffee was never cold? Ever? Really?" "You're asking a 60 something year old man to jump 45' because you can't be next to a man at sunset?"

Why not get John Hamm up there on the stand? The spite store is just funny, and Larry being unapologetic about it always lands for me. Or JB.

Oh man, I agree. On the charge that Larry was on trial for, it made sense for just Auntie Rae to testify. But if they knew about the character witnesses, I wouldn't have doubted for a second that Jeff, Richard, and especially Leon would've been on the stand testifying for Larry.

Another thing that made it go down easier than the Seinfeld finale was that they got through the trial quicker, since this was basically a half hour show.  IIRC the Seinfeld finale was stretched to an hour.  I'm not fond of clip shows, but this was painless enough.

I'd agree. Like I said, the Seinfeld finale was a dolled-up clip show with a thin premise for those clips. Here, the clips served the story, and the trial, while built up all season, was not the only focus of the episode, nor were all the clips shown at once. There were clips that Larry could've refuted, like the Doll Girl or the obituary, but Larry being Larry...didn't.

  18. "The House Falls Apart when Marge isn't There" has been a stock plot since the golden era. I defer back to Marge in Chains in season 4, and $pringfield in season 5.

Yeah, Marge should REALLY know better than to let Homer in charge.

I thought the finale was fan service done right—an improved remix of Seinfeld's finale, which I didn't like in 1998 and haven't liked on rewatches.

It REALLY didn't help that an hour-long clip show preceded what was essentially a dolled-up clip show.

I could totally buy all the food apps being a con of the same people cooking in a kitchen. Lisa being the cause of the problem is rare too.

That is kind of how Ghost Kitchens work, but The Simpsons version has ALL of them in Springfield be from one kitchen.

  22. People, it's been an honor.

So good to see Richard one last time. "You think you're suicide material?" was a classic bit.

And yep, we in Seinfeld Finale territory. We started on a plane, and we're at a trial. Leon totally doesn't see himself in Kramer, even Jerry showed up! And the first witness against Larry? Mocha Joe. And then came everyone else: Mr. Takahashi, Alexander Vindman, Irma (and calling out Larry taking the holocaust shoes!), and the list goes on. Man, they brought in some deep cuts, like the doll girl. And of course, the defense witnesses hated Larry, too. Of course stealing Auntie Raye's recipe was gonna bite him in the ass. Man, if only Funkhauser was still alive to be here. (And speaking of which, Freddy was the only regular who didn't show up in this!)

Of course, Leon would be into Seinfeld when he realized it was about Weekly Ass. Jerry had a new girl almost every week. Loved Jerry confirming to Leon that there IS a Seinfeld Fuck Tape. It's 13 hours long and it's only on laserdisc. And Jerry saves the day, points out Pesci Guy was a juror that was supposed to be sequestering, mistrial declared!

EDIT: "GO BACK TO FUCKIN' JAIL, LARRY!" was the perfect line to go out on. You just know Susie is gonna hang that over Larry's head forever.
