So because Sheldon didn’t do it maliciously that makes it ok? The entire show (Young Sheldon included) has time and again shown Sheldon has gotten so used to the coddling given to him by family and friends he will do whatever he wants without any repercussions. This is what we’re supposed to laugh about? Douche baggery - it’s ok as long as it’s not done on purpose!

I don't think anyone said it was ok.

I don't agree with this at all. I knew a person like this IRL. It was annoying, and it was even more annoying that the social ineptitude was supposed to be "adorable" or something. Leads to a toxic work environment.

I hear you. If I knew Sheldon IRL I would hate him.  I would never tolerate his behavior, we wouldn't be friends, and I would never let him get away with the things he did.  But since it is TV, I allow myself to push that to the side and like things or not be bothered by things I would in real life.   Seinfeld was about a group of unlikable people but it still makes me laugh.

Eh, Sheldon didn't bother me nearly as much as he bothered many of you.  Yes he was wrong and he realized it, tried to make it right and felt terrible about it.  He loves Amy and in his own clueless way he thought he was doing his wife a favor and she would be happy to have the time to pursue their work together that she said she was excited about but didn't have the time for.  Plus in Sheldon's mind, there is nothing better or more important than working to answer the really monumental physics questions that are the focus of their research.  I could see how he would assume his wife felt the same way.  But yes, he was totally wrong and had no right to go to the university president rather than talking to her and encouraging her to do it if that was what she wanted.

I wasn't pissed off at Sheldon or the episode so I found the irony of Sheldon mansplaining mansplaining hilarious, but irony is one of my favorite types of humor.

I believe Sheldon when he said he didn't do it maliciously and I like that he expressed his sincere gratitude that Amy explained exactly why it was wrong and why it upset her so much.  He is very literal and doesn't think the way normal people do and needs those things spelled out for him.  But I think it's obvious that he loves Amy more than anything and is willing to do whatever he can to make her happy and make things right when he screws up.

I agree 100%.  This is why Sheldon is my favorite.  For the most part his mistakes are never malicious (excluding him getting "revenge"). He felt really bad about it too.

  4. I am not a fan of the Leonard/Penny relationship so I definitely can see them going the way of Amy's parents. Actually, I am not a huge fan of Leonard in general.  Some of the reasons they mentioned in the episode.  But in no way is Leonard "sweet".  The things he has done to his friends, Penny, and past girlfriends knock him out of that category.

From a story-telling perspective, the thing I find most interesting about the finale is that the audience watched a bunch of characters appear to die (Maeve, Bernard, etc, etc) when they will almost definitely be back next season, and watched a bunch of characters appear to live when, if what we were told about robot heaven is true, they will almost definitely not come back again. I think that kind of messes up your reaction emotionally. Or it does mine. But it's interesting.

Thanks for this.  I am still feeling off about this episode (besides the confusion) and I think this is why. I can't decide how I feel about Teddy's end.  He was a favorite of mine and I know I should feel happy but I feel sad, like he died. Part of it is that Dolores made another choice FOR him and the choice was "you are only made for a fantasy world and not the real world". No matter if that is true or not I feel insulted for him. I don't feel that way about the others in the Valley because THEY made the choice to go. Plus with his core drive being Dolores, will being without her mess with him. On a selfish note, we probably won't see those in the Valley again and I will miss him.

I really WANT this to be true (that this is the song Akane danced to) but since I'm not familiar with the Wu Tang Clan's oeuvre I can't be sure.  Even if it's just a joke response -- bravo.

What song was the one that played when Akane started dancing? Sounded familar but i couldn't put my finger on it.

The Wu Tang Clan - C.R.E.A.M (Cash Rules Everything Around Me) . It was brilliant.

  8. Like everyone else I want this show to continue. For me, all the characters are so likable.  (Which is rare fro me since I tend to dislike or only tolerate at least one of the "good guys" in all the shows I watch). I even like Patricia, though I do think she shines when she is interacting with Dalton.  Their dynamic just seems right.  Oh no! I think I'm shipping them.  The returned necklace and hand holding at the end.  I think I'm doomed again. Sigh.

  9. Thank you episode. Two of my pet peeves were addressed. 1) That Howard is some kind of victim when Sheldon rags on him. They all rag on each other and Howard gives as good as he gets. 2) If you have an issue with something say something. I am a Sheldon  fan but it really annoys me when the others just roll over for him. While Sheldon is responsible for his actions they helped to create a monster.

  10. Thank you for not being "more of the same" and not lying in the Dragonpit.  All of the game playing has brought Westeros to the point where the leaders cannot come together to actually save their own lives. As we saw Cersei had already betrayed them so all his lie would have done was weaken his position with his allies.

Placating does not mean lying. Lying makes things worse.  A person who lies and breaks deals would be the worst diplomat. No one would ever go negotiate with him because they know he can go back on his word.

A good ruler would be someone who does their best to keep his/her promises.

No, sorry. It's not about having a 'I will never lie' policy. It's that once you agree on a deal, you have to stick to it. Or your word is worthless and the next time no one is going to believe you when you want to make a deal. Which means, no more deals or bargains. Which means Westeros gets royally fucked.

The fact that no one but Jon gets this is baffling. Especially the likes of Tyrion. Again, you don't see the hypocrisy of Tyrion asking Jon to lie about his deal with Dany and then thinking that Cersei will hold true to her word? If every person is like Cersei in Westeros, how would day to day life even work? How would kingdoms deal with each other, bargain and negotiate if no deal is sacred, everyone lies and there is no trust anymore?

If Jon as king on the Iron Throne tries to negotiate with Yara Greyjoy why would she believe anything he says if he can just go back on his word?

Sticking to deals, oaths, vows, guest right etc. is the very fabric of Westeros - it's people like Tywin, Roose and now Cersei who don't hold true to these values. And they are reviled in Westeros for that. I don't expect Jon to be like them nor would I want him to be.

Agreed.  We know Jon can and has lied when he needs to (see Season 3).  So it wasn't that he couldn't lie he made a choice not to lie. As he said to Sam before the Lord Commander vote about Stannis' offer - why would people follow him if he can't keep his oaths. It was on Cersei to think of the people of Westeros and the threat coming for them all. Of course, we later find out that it would not have mattered what Jon said because she had already planned with Euron to betray them.  So he would have lied for nothing anyway.

Have you read the books? It's only in the show that they try to portray honorable people like Jon and Ned as idiots because they do the right thing. In the books, Ned Stark's honor is what makes men march through the harsh winter and snow for Ned's little girl. They have destroyed the Northern houses on the show, but in the books, their very loyalty to house Stark is because of who Ned is as a person.

In the books, Jon is pragmatic and smart. He plans Stannis' entire Northern military campaign telling him which house to approach or not to approach and how to deal with them. He plays the game - he marries Alys Karstark to the Thenn, brings the wildlings into the North and nullifies the Karstark threat. Funnily enough, all this - him going against the rules and involving himself with Stannis and the game, him breaking his oaths to save Arya, him not being as honorable - that's what gets him killed in the books.

Not a book reader.  Thanks for the insight.

Why do you want Jon to be just like every other horrible person playing the game? Is it not nice that we get that one character who stands out and continues to stick to his principles no matter the stakes and no matter how hard it is to do the right thing? That's why Jon is Jon and he is pretty much the only character who is not playing the stupid game.

And it's baffling that people think that the guy, who could not lie to Cersei or break his oath to Dany when the stakes were so high, is manipulating and cheating Dany by sleeping with her.  I mean, this is Jon Snow we are talking about. Have you guys been watching this show? How can you be a Jon Snow fan and want him to manipulate a woman by sleeping with her? That would make him the worst scum and I would be cheering for Dany to roast him with her dragons.

And why would he need to manipulate her? Dany has already pledged to help him and the North before he bend the knee. That's why he bend the knee in the first place - because he saw that she put the needs of the kingdom before her fight with Cersei. That's why he's sure that the North will accept her as queen - 'they will come to see you for what you are.'

To quote the one true king Stannis Baratheon once again:

Dany is trying to save the kingdom to win the throne and that makes her a good queen. Unlike Cersei, who is waiting for the kingdom to be destroyed to win the throne and become the queen of ashes. That right there tells us the difference between Dany and Cersei and Jon sees this. That's why he has pledged to Dany.

I don't. I am very happy with Jon's honor and not "being more of the same."  But I am not always as strong as Jon like Theon I struggle. So when he is called stupid for being a better person, I get seduced by ideas of him playing the game. But as I also stated that would not be good. It is only a fleeting thought which reinforces that Jon IS doing the right thing.

OH HELL YES I knew something was up with the chemistry between Jon and Dany! Never ONCE bought it. Its clear now that this isn't endgame romance. Because yeah, any sex scene with a freaking VOICEOVER about INCEST is sooooooo hot.

But one thing I really have on my wishlist for S8 is NO INCEST BABY - GRRM has made it clear that incest caused the downfall of the Targaryens. This show is about the STARKS not the Targs - a Targ incest baby would very much detract from that. And for me, the reason why they keep mentioning Dany can't have kids is to give Jon a little bit of leeway so he knows he won't father a bastard. Also sometimes when a woman says she cant have kids, that means SHE CANT HAVE KIDS (speaking as an infertile myself).

But why does he even have sex with her? I can't see it anything more than a power move. Tyrion lurking in the background of the scene "you need to learn how to lie" - Um, he's using sex to win power over her. Or, maybe it is all just about cocks in the end (great line Jaime)

ALSO Maybe I'm a Jon Snow fan but I don't even believe his "Northern Fool" act. I feel like he is aware of that trope - why would he fulfill it? Theon even noticed how weird it was that Jon would do that. Also we KNOW he can lie - he's done it before with Mance and the wildlings.

Perhaps in the dragon pit he put on a show to hide his own manipulation of Dany.

Jon isn't here to repeat the Ned/Robb Stark story line.

My husband and I were debating about the ice dragon - will it breathe blue fire or ice? I won that bet with the former, because how else are you going to melt that Wall down? As fantasy nerd I am VERY pleased with that last sequence. It was so reminiscent of the Nazgul and Sauron's armies, just give me that LOTR shit from here on out.

Also it was fun to point at the screen when the Wall was falling and yell, THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU FUCK YOUR AUNT.

Being a Jon fan and having no problem with his honor, a small part of me would be so proud if he slept with Dany as a manipulation. That whole scene can be viewed through a lense of he and Tyrion working together. This is why he hesitates and braces himself to see her. Tyrion is looking sad about his betrayal. This could be the bittersweet ending. Jon wins but loses what makes him special - his goodness and honor. He just like every other horrible person playing this stupid game.

I dont think that is the case though.

  15. I'm confused about Bran making it a point to call Jon a Sand. I know it is the bastard name in Dorne. But everyone knew Jon was not born in the North. Were they ok with Snow because they didn't know where in the South he was born? Or the writers just needed a lead in for the true Targ reveal?

  16. OMG! Tormund and Beric! I hope they are alive somehow. I know they showed them off to the side but damn.

Is that supposed to be realtime? Could that be the future?

I am not a fan of Sansa but I liked how this was done. It was clear that it wasn't until that last conversation that she realized all about Littlefinger. His game backfired because Sansa knows being a Lady of anything was never Ayra. It woke her up and she remembered Bran and his skills. Nice that it was clear they were all in on it at the end.

Since Cersei already made the plans with Euron, it didn't matter if Jon lied or not so I'm with him telling the truth.  I am also fine with everyone calling him on it.  He defended himself well. It just showed how small a person Cersei is.

The scene with Jon and Dany in the dragon pit was crackling.

    Poor Jorah at Painted Table.

Did they just put Viserys' old wig on the actor for Rhaegar? Not good.

What the hell Tyrion? Are you going to take Littlefinger's place as the creeper? If that is jealousy it is coming out of nowhere for me.

    Boatsex! Yum.

So with boatsex now on the horizon I can't help wondering about Dany and Jon's hair situation.  All season Jon has been rocking the half up / half down man bun, and Dany a series of complicated braided arrangements.  Will their locks finally flow free when engaging in passionate boatsex lol?

OMG.  I was thinking the same thing, at least about Jon.  I know it's silly but I need to see the curls again.  Boatsex seems the mostly time.

Was that Tyrion's plan? I thought it was Jon's. And exchanging one wight for one dragon is not exactly a great trade.

Okay, no one here is stupid enough to think that Cersei's gonna change her gameplan upon seeing the wight.  Why are all the people who actually know her even more blind to that?

It was Tyrion's plan. Jon doesn't offer to go until after Jorah says he will get the wight and Davos points out that the windings won't follow Jorah.

I agree about Cersei which makes this an even bigger blunder by Tyrion. Everyone but Varys is relying on him to be the Cersei expert.

I don't necessarily think Tyrion views it this way. Dany destroyed all the food and all the gold got to King's Landing.  She destroyed a good portion of the Lannister soldiers, but their commander got away.   So, now Dany holds an emptied out Highgarden and a burned out crownlands. Congrats?

I was talking about his plan to capture the wight.

  20. I cried for Viserion.

Loved the traveling of the beyond the wall group.  Some great exchanges.

I like the talks between Tyrion and Dany.  Good points on both sides. Tyrion needs to thank Dany for saving the mission. If she hadn't this would be at least the third time Tyrion's plans were a disaster this season.

What was the point of sending the meeting Raven to Winterfell when they have Jon? Was it on the chance he was lost on the mission?

The Winterfell stuff is a mess.  The only way I will forgive this is if Littlefinger dies somehow.  I just cannot get behind Sansa anymore (I will take it back if this has all been a ploy to get Littlefinger). I found myself disagreeing with what Arya was doing but still on Arya's side because Sansa was just so annoying. I can't believe she brought up the army she hid from her battle commander as a point on her side.  No that just shows you are not trustworthy and handicapped the his options so you could get the glory. Wow!

Why was there no time for Benjen to hop on the horse? Oh right this is season 7. Time is whipping by. Bye Benjen.

When I found myself asking where the huge chains came from at the end at had to just shake my head and say "Whatever".

I am rooting for Dany/Jon so their scene was great. Not sure how I feel about him "bending the knee" though. It helped that Tormund brought up Mance and how not bending didn't help his people. Though I never thought it was a pride thing for either one of them.

  21. I was ok with the fast pace until this episode.  There were so many good pairings I wanted more time with each of them. Maybe there will be some good convo during the hunt. Jon/Jorah about their dads, Gendry/Jon/Hound about Arya, Hound/Tormund about Brienne, Gendry/Jon about Mel, Beric/Jon resurrection, etc.

Jon and Drogon was awesome. And Jon is legitimate. Wow!

The talk with Tyrion and Varys wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, I still don't agree with them though.  I can see Varys' issue with her burning people as just a really bad memory from his time with The Mad King.

The burning was not that bad either. She gave them a choice and Lord Tarly rejected the Wall option. Dickon basically walked into the fire on his own. It's war. All will suck.

As usual everything Davos is great.

I love it when Jon is kingly and he had great moments tonight.

Loved the scenes at Eastwatch. Great mix of characters. Can't wait for more of them next week.

The Winterfell scenes didn't bother too much. Finally after so long Littlefinger is being his Littlefinger self.  I definitely think he was somehow behind the unrest of the Lords. I am not crazy about the Sansa/Arya tension but it is more realistic then them holding hands and braiding each other's hair.  I have no doubt though that they will come out on top.
