Kristen and Alex are disgusting. I hope this means that Brady is through with her and can finally move on to a love interest not a crazy and creepy as Kristen.

Disgusting really is the word. And not because of her age - purely because of who she is, and who Ben is (he'll always be Ben, due to RSW's non-existent range).

They were clearly testing him with Ava last week... so not AS crazy and creepy as Kristen but totally his type

Is it wrong to hope he sleeps with Clyde next, just to complete the trifecta?

After all Ariana has been through, first at the mouth of DJT, then behind the scenes of DOOL, I can certainly understand her lawsuit and hope it helps turn the tide of misogyny, but damn, I really wish she was staying. She was always one of my favorites and never phoned it in.

VERY well said. Honestly, as much as I'll miss her, Ari deserves some peace after all the BS. And she really did deliver in her scenes.

It's not a great look, and I find it sad that her work and her career aren't what's getting her into the MET Gala. Somehow she's more important by marriage than she is as an individual? What kind of message is that to give little girls?

But mostly, I'm disappointed she isn't staying on DOOL because, in spite of a bland start, she's quickly become one of the best hires in years on the show. So of course we're losing her.

Did anyone from DOOL ever get invited to this type of event in decades past?

Sloan and EJ have to face facts about Jude.

I'm curious what this will mean. Are we going to get a lowkey, realistic, reasonable wrap-up to this storyline? Would that feel like a letdown after all these months of dragging it out? Or are we getting a big theatrical showdown ending that could feel campy and silly even though it's a big enough climax to justify the months of storytelling?

Which approach would you rather see - big or small?

  4. From what I've repeatedly read over the years, which of course could be totally made-up (yet seems consistently part of the story), MR's hubby walked in on her...um...how to put this...rehearsing a prayer scene of sorts with JB in a dressing room? And then the hubby threatened divorce and taking their kids away if MR didn't openly confess to their church congregation what she'd done.

Again, that's only what I've read and reread over the years.

If he was willing to do all that, I do believe a big part of her ever working at DOOL again would be dropping JB and Peter and never mentioning them again, as per his/her request.

The show probably didn't want to do anything for MR immediately after since A) her personal business had interfered with their planning and B) they sued her for walking out on her contract and C) JB was liked by viewers and the storyline was in full swing.

Letting him finish it out, resolving all the legal matters with MR and then inviting her back was kind of the best solution.

there was a recast Jennifer for a while Stephanie Cameron who really looked just like MR but lacked her charisma for the role.

I didn't hate her. She was a decent actress and since she'd played the part a while, I'm surprised she wasn't invited back in recent years. It'd have made more sense than bringing Cady in and trying to get her accepted by audiences.

I doubt MR has, or has ever had the ย power to dictate who comes and goes or what stories get told. If she did, I wish she had stopped the awful way Jennifer, Jack, Laura, Abby were treated in service of trying to make Gwen popular.ย

True, but she's powerful in that no Jennifer replacements are accepted and she's welcomed back to the show continuously.

Wow - I hadn't thought about how all 4 of those Horton were ruined by terrible writing. But they were. :(

The actresses look fine with each other in the recent photos. Well f that.

Respect for all, period. Good on Linsey for saying it.

  7. Does Sloan's entire wardrobe consist of different colors of those ridiculous bathrobe dresses? Does she wear those to court? If Ally McBeal got grief for short skirts, I doubt Sloan gets a pass on short, silky bathrobes.

I just want everyone to tell Paulina to go to hell at this point. Is that unreasonable? I mean, I didn't even watch her "rescue" of Chanel, but she did something crazy like bum a lift off someone to get to the chalet, didn't she? So what's the exact tally on the number of people she's endangered? Couldn't she, at the very least, be arrested?

Hey Leo - Dimitri is "all beauty no brains"...but faked being an ISA Agent compellingly enough to fool veteran agent Billie? How do you figure that?

And how exactly did Dimitri give up his inheritance when you pretended to be a girl, and then the lawyer guy knew you were both gay and was fine with it and signed off on the inheritance? Did I miss something?

Sloan giving it back to Eric. You want to treat me like a child then here is all my financial stuff. Have at it. I know she is a terribleish person but Eric is infantilizing her the way he does all his women and I love that she won't take it.

Yeah, I gotta hand it to Sloan here when she brought up Nicole never feeling good enough for him. (Although, do you guys remember that scene? I wish I could - it sounds like a good one! When was it?)

Eric knows something is fishy, fine, but he's doing very little to change the financial reality of their family. Didn't he work at the Pub for a while? Wouldn't Roman gladly let him work there so he could supplement his income?

Anyway, nice to see him at the paper. It's a natural idea that keeps to the photography goal. It's just...kinda sad that 50 year old Eric is so professionally adrift that Chad hiring him is a huge cause for celebration. Eric had such a leg up in the photography game when he was 20. How did it all go south this badly? Yikes.

Rita. Absolutely loved this character and her rapport with EJ. He always responds well to a tough mother figure keeping him in line, and this one worked soooo much better than awful Mayor Price.

Back in the 90s, this show had so many incidental characters that added so much to the canvas. Nurses at the hospital with first names and personalities, police officers at the station, regular citizens, etc. It's nice to see someone like that back in the mix. I hope Rita stays around...though I have a hard time imagining her dealing with Stefano, LOL.

  8. That's...her nephew.

Yeah its hard to get invested in the teens when they're usually butchered within three months.

Chanel and Johnny *just* got remarried. Is it really necessary for them to be pregnant already?ย

  10. I'm hopeful Xander's mother is more of a Kate than a Kristen.

    7 minutes ago, brisbydog said:

I want that very much, but I don't trust Ron not to combine them, and he is clearly tweaking the scripts again.

How could Ron tweak scripts on episodes that were already filmed though?

  11. Very solid points Brisby. I can totally see why they'd overlap the two stories, since Victor is the common denominator in all of them, but I also kinda wish they'd keep the Kon stuff in it's own corner.

Xander is a popular character with a long history and it'd be preferable for him to get to have this big reunion without a short-term character (and one with an especially goofy fake accent) squeezing into it.

Plus there have been too many weird character affiliations lately, between all the reveals regarding Ava's kids and Orpheus' kids, etc. Sometimes you don't have to have a new character be someone's sibling AND someone else's ex-lover AND someone else's parent AND someone else's cousin.

My head still hurts when I think of the Lani rewrites. Girl has four parents! Why? Not necessary.

Let Kon's wife be Kon's wife and Xander's Mom be Xander's Mom.

  12. Oh, I feel you. I guess because I encountered Days during it's more sensational periods and watched Another World more for the family and relationship stuff, I've never expected Days to be strictly about realism.

It's definitely been weird seeing the shifts since 2012 though, away from relationships and drama back to crazy wacky stuff.

    ___

It is SO WEIRD seeing Ava walking around the Pub like a family friend. Good on John for glaring at her. I hope everyone there spits in her food.

Interesting how to the show sidesteps John getting to have any icky feelings about Rachel even existing. It's pretty generous of him to love her at all and play Grandpa. As a viewer though, I'm wishing they'd give him some space to cringe.

"I never had a child with her". Um...John...what about that poor baby that died before it could be born? The one you were so horrified to have lost when the truth about Kristen's deception was finally revealed to you? Pretty cold to act like that kid never existed. The writers could have worded that better.

Sorry but...where the hell did Rachel run off to? Isn't there supposed to be a wall basically where the cameras are in the Pub?

I just had a violent physical reaction to NotKristen and BenAlex doing sexy times. What did we do to deserve this?

Is this a for-real exit for Tripp? I know he gets garbage storylines, but I'll miss him. I just hope this isn't yet another fakeout exit.

Could Wendy at least please hate Ava? That would be nice. She has enough reason to.

They make her seem like an improv comedian and yet that makes so little sense.

  14. Thanks for all the responses gang! Very kind of you.

I'm now in the final season and can confirm that the costumes and scenery outshine the humor complete, though Jane Lynch did indeed get me to laugh a few times.

There are single episodes of Gilmore Girls that are more funny than an entire season of this show. Its jarring how weak the laughs are here.

Why was so much of Season 2 spent on the catskills vacation...?!

The pacing in this show and overall structure are really wonky.

  15. Sometimes, the absurd "out there" concepts allowed for really interesting storytelling and character opportunities: Kristen trying to routinely switch places with pregnant Susan without being detected, for instance, or Good Doctor Marlena getting possessed and being evil or a serial killer. Those were interesting because of how they were developed. As pitches, they sound insane and silly, but the execution made them very entertaining and memorable. Having things land realistically is a big part of that.

DAYS hasn't been a realistic show in decades, but back in the 2010s it seemed to be back on track as a slightly more grounded version itself. Ron has gone all-in on the camp and craziness, and it's really harmed the show...but probably more because of how sloppily its all being developed.

On the subject of Paulina, though, everything's been a mess since Day One so I can't even claim it could be better. I don't know what that even looks like for her. This radiation treatment stuff is just another example of a weird pitch with weird development (thanks for the explanations Aunt Tilly!). Even as a more low-key storyline without over the top concepts, it feels boring and dumb.

Bottom line, I still think the show should try to make some sense and be believable, even when it's being over the top. I think you can have drama like face masks and lookalikes and brain chips alongside divorces and incarcerations and pregnancies - it's just all in how you handle it.
