  1. Here’s Mischa Mitrafanov and his new partner Hazel Collier at a show. I’ll reserve judgement until I see a real program but at she can land a triple jump so that alone could put them in the mix in the US.

I, too, really loved the Browns. I’m bummed for Katarina & Jeff and the twizzle fall, I would’ve liked to see how those two teams would’ve fared head to head.

Speaking of ice dance, they made a bunch of changes for next year, adding a “choreographic assisted jump” and they nixing the pattern step.

    Is Danny O'Shea still available?

Unless his tryout with Olivia Serafini was successful, he is available. And already trains with Todd & Jenni, you and I are thinking the same thing…

Well, there goes CMT's ratings. I definitely don't watch that channel for anything else. Wasn't this their highest rated show? It was definitely (IMO) their only good show...

I thought that’s what Kelli said. This is really strange and puzzling to me. If I’m one of the other pro dance/cheer teams, I’d be trying to fill that market with a show featuring my team.

    3. J/R were terrible at Canadian Nationals, but they knew that no matter what happened, they were going to the Olympics anyway (because the Canadian Federation are morons). I believe James even bragged about it after the short program. And they finished 5th or 6th.

That was here say that I’m pretty sure has been disproven at this point and they were 4th (admittedly still not great but they’ve been better long program skaters all year).

The look from her parents, I cannot imagine what was going through their mind, as well as, LeDuc's boyfriend's mind.  Alas, we are reminded that figure skating can be a dangerous yet beautiful sport.

Chris Knierim bowed out due to mental health correct.  This was the catalyst for Brandon Frazer looking for a partner.

Okay ladies and gents, fill me in on Radford/James.  We loved them with their eariier partners, learned to hate Cipres and Zimmerman, and why should we not love them now?

    1. Maybe I misunderstood but Ashley and Timothy are definitely not dating. She’s married and he’s gay (and non-binary).
    2. Chris Knierim bowed out due to injury. Bad back and lack of motivation.
    3. I don’t hate James/Radford. I don’t blame Vanessa for Morgan Cipres being an idiot. Yes, she could’ve and should’ve condemned his behavior but I’m really not sure what else she could’ve done or how much she knew. I don’t hate Radford, Meaghan was on TSL and gave her side of the story and we never heard Eric’s. I definitely think it could’ve been handled better but Meaghan is pregnant now, so Eric was kind of right…I also thought they were absolutely the right choice to send over Evelyn/Trent.

When Nathan won World’s last year, and Vincent Zhou WD, they had to earn the third spot at a challenge cup event, because they technically only had 2 entries. So I wonder if US only qualify for 1, with the opportunity to earn 2 slots, or, because there were so few entries this year, they’ll get the three slots, because there weren’t any countries with 3 entries this year to begin with.

Those were unique rules for Olympic qualification.

Not much of an update but at least she’s been released.

The announcers are back for the Men's short, but I have my laptop turned way down since I'm working in the office today. LOL. I assume they're the same guys. No, I just turned it up slightly and no British accents. Different feed?

They went with Ted Barton today and presumably for the rest of the event. He’s been a staple in the past but since he’s so connected to Russia since he does their world commentary, I think they were trying to avoid any controversy. That worked out great…

Was Vincent downgraded? It looks like it from my untrained eye.

I thought they were harsh on him, his Lutz got a q and his salchow was called under. Cost him about 10 points.

  8. My understanding is they aren’t showing any replays. You can watch the ISU stream with a VPN, set it to China or download and use Opera browser. The SkatingISU channel has the entire event. You can livestream or go back and watch anytime. And you can watch Olympic replays on the Olympic channel, too.

  9. I was watching on the YouTube stream (I’m still mad at Peacock) but I missed those comments, too.

Super excited for our American pairs!

  10. Nathan has withdrawn from Worlds, cites a nagging injury (presumably his hip) and he doesn’t want to risk further injury. Camden Pulkinen will replace him, Jason was first alternate, presumably he declined. He’s currently on vacation  in Peru.

  11. Must read thread:

“Kogan himself authored the dissertation describing the ideal, height, weight, hip and chest circumferences for 7 year-old figure skaters to be recruited into high-performance training camps” 😳😳

I know it’s unpopular here, but it would be cool if Gribble/LeDuc could win a medal.

    Why is that unpopular?

Will the top Russian skaters go country shopping to stay in international competition? I noticed all the skaters representing Georgia at the Olympics were from Moscow.

They’d have to get released from Russia which is very unlikely. But yes, Georgia is definitely Russia lite. Gubanova and Karina Safina both skated for Russia in juniors and wouldn’t have made the Olympic team for Russia but made it for Georgia. They were smart to switch. Lower level skaters might be able to get released but no way would top level skaters or promising juniors be afforded that opportunity.

  14. No Chinese pairs, No Kirsten & Mike. It really should be between Japan and US for pairs. But If they get nervous and slip up James & Radford or the Georgian pair will be right there.

In other news, Alena Kostornaia has left Tutberidze again and is now training with Elena Buianova. Frankly, I expect Trusova to leave as well. We shall see.

Well, about 4 weeks from now is Worlds. Are the same 3 US Olympic ice dance teams going? Is Jason uninvited? (if so, I'm going to be very unhappy). Is the US women's national silver medalist qualified for Worlds? I'm suffering from figure skating withdrawal after the O's.

Final entries are due Monday so we will know more. Ilia is at Challenge Cup this weekend and if he gets the necessary tech minimum for the short program then he will go to Worlds in lieu of Jason. I’m interested to see if Nathan goes or not. All three dance teams plan to go and as far as I know all three ladies and both pairs will go. Outside of the men, the worlds team was the same as the Olympic team. I’d love see Green/Parson at Worlds but unless someone can’t go that’ll have to wait til next year.

OK, let me vent.  NBC, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?

They’ve removed everything on YouTube and Peacock. Here’s what you need to do: use a VPN or the Opera browser and watch on the YouTube Olympic channel. If you have Peacock, you can watch the coverages for each night but no individual figure skating replays. No explanation has been given from NBC as to why the figure skating coverage has been deleted.

I recorded the Gala on USA but then decided to watch on Peacock after seeing reactions here to the commentary. I then went back and re-watched a few skaters on the USA recording. Interestingly, some camera angles were different - though both NBC, yes?

From my understanding they use the World Feed for Peacock and NBC cameras for the NBC/NBCSports/USA so the camera angles are different.
