  1. Please explain to me what a "ghetto mentality" is and why, in your estimation, Jessica "reeks" of it.
  2. Y'all are all on it, as usual. This was a good episode. Sean....sigh! One: not only does he unattractively chew with his mouth open as Scorpiosunshine noted, but he makes pronounced chewing noises, too. Sir, please cut that out. I'm shocked Davina hasn't said anything to him about it. Two: I know I'm being petty and harsh, but I'ma say this anyway: my gut feeling about Sean from the first night together episode onward has been, "this is the kind of dude who cries and tell his wife how much he loves her as he chops up her body and stores the body parts in the freezer in the basement." That's a terrible description and opinion to have of someone I don't know (and I'm mostly kidding), but this dude has issues and worries me. So, he went from the trauma and seriousness of a lost child directly into an arranged marriage with a complete stranger on TV? Nah! I'm calling it right now. Sean will want to stay married and Davina is going to say no on that decision show because she figures out this dude is even more loquito than she is. Ryan D/Jessica: Ryan showed us more palatable layers of his personality on this episode. I still don't care for him overall, but I liked that he wanted both families to be together over the holiday and seemed somewhat contrite about his behavior during "Trashy-gate." I'm starting to think that the tone he had during the off-camera make-up phone conversation with Jessica right before she moved into his place for a week was very different from his cocky, insouciant on-camera vibe. Some of you here have said before that you feel like he has said and done some things during this experiment in order to not look weak in the eyes of his bros who'll be watching the show and judging like we are. I'm starting to really see that. I still don't think they're a good match. I still think my boo Jessica is going to get her heart broken and I don't like it. Ryan R/Jaclyn: I still love them. I like how she was with his niece and mom. They already look like a family to me. I was hoping to see her family as well. She mentioned having very specific Italian and Indian holiday traditions. I was looking forward to seeing both sides of her family. Ummm...so Ryan literally lives in his mom's basement? I thought maybe it was a duplex and he lived in the bottom unit. OK...You can see in just the way Jaclyn looks at him that her feelings have deepened. I find her to be really self-aware in the talking heads about what behaviors she needs to change to make this more of a romantic partnership. Someone in the RyanD/Jac thread said knowing those behaviors are detrimental and changing them are two different things. I agree, but I'm optimistic. Jaclyn gets a demerit for laughing at the purse, though. My boy Ryan looked a bit hurt. He maybe should have gotten advice from a 20 or 30 something female relative/friend about what to buy. Salespeople don't have your best interests at heart and his brother looked even more clueless than he. I'm truly enjoying watching the trajectory of this pairing, though. I've said enough here for like a week...
  3. ALL OF THIS ^^^^^^! I made the unfortunate choice of scrolling through his IG posts! This guy is a bonafide fool. His use of the #yellow hashtag in that way is just IT for me. BYE, boy! And you're right, he would be self-righteously argumentative with anyone who suggested that it's offensive (to say the least) to use that term in the way that he does. I'm upset they matched my Boo Jessica with him. Like really! These experts, as with last season's woefully ill-suited match of Vaughn with Monet, have some 'splainin to do.
  4. This show has me hooked still after 2 seasons! I want to hate it, but I can't. Y'all are all over this and have made some great points. My thoughts haven't changed after this week's episode. Jessica/Ryan D: He's just not that into her. Ryan D, like Vaughn, checked out mentally/emotionally after their first night together. I saw it 2 episodes ago. There's no salvaging this. He's doing/saying things to make her choose divorce just like Vaughn did with Monet. Jessica isn't overly sensitive. I think she still has some healing to do after that long-term destructive relationship with the cheater. Ryan D has more one-night stands, bro-hangs and puerile pranks to do. Nothing wrong with that. He just isn't ready for marriage either. I think she asked for a guy who was more adventurous than she to pull her out of her comfort zone. Ryan D is that, but he's missing the empathy for her being skittish at first. I don't care for Ryan, but I am cool IRL with so many guys under 35 who act just like him. It is what it is. Davina/Sean: I don't have a clear read on him, but something discomforts me about him and it began with him raging at hotel staff about the lost ring. I think the producers didn't show it for a reason. I think it was bad. I also think that if he didn't cross some line, he wouldn't have apologized to Davina in the way that he did about how he behaved with the hotel staff. He was trying to get out in front of what he thought would be serious blowback from that incident. He also needs to quit it with the sexual suggestiveness. When your lady wants you in that way, she'll let you know. Davina already explained her position on waiting until love blooms to become sexually intimate. So slow ya roll, bruh! I want to root for them, but she seems to always be waiting for some misstep from him. Seek and you shall find. Jaclyn/Ryan R: I love Ryan R! He is the most attractive guy in this cadre IMO. I want him to speak up for himself a lot more, though. Don't just tell the camera; tell your wife what is and isn't working for you, man. I think Jaclyn is beautiful (with or without overly dramatic eye makeup). All of the women in both seasons have been gorgeous to me. I don't think Jaclyn is a ballbuster in the pejorative sense. I think she's probably that girl who has a lot of male friends and knows you have to mimic their behavior in some ways in order to be heard and respected. I think she's forgotten the give and take that a romantic partnership with a guy requires. She'll switch gears soon. My money is on them to last well beyond the show. They need new experts for next season. I say that not only because this lot is so very bad at match making, but also because I simply want to see a different array of subjectivities being brought to bear on this matching paradigm. I'd also like to see my tribe represented with a lesbian (or gay) couple. This show seems to be based in NYC and gay marriage is legal there. Why not? I do think that part of the project undergirding this show is to try to (also) say something about how men and women differ in their expectations of partners and of relationships...to show those contrasts via these pairings. So, maybe a gay or lesbian couple won't happen. I want to see that, though. Carry on...The discussion over here is hilarious and substantive.
  5. Whoa, I can totally see this. Jamie, being a nurse, would probably know how to put a dude out to pasture with no traces of foul play at first. Dayum! Now that would be a show. SMH, that's tuuuurrrble...ashamed of myself for this line of thinking. I'll go say a ton of Hail Marys now. LOL! Agreeing with everyone that Monet and Vaughn were set up and that the experts were particularly unhappy with Monet for 'going off script' at The Reunion and for not just sitting there and just taking her lumps without questioning their due deligence with this match-up. That fourseome of professional charlatans irked me somethin awful...Cilona the most.
  6. lmao! y'all are so cynical. I loves me some Jamie Otis and her over-the-top eye couture. She's a hot mess and I'm here for it...all of it. I wonder what Doug thinks he's getting out of the relationship besides a smokin hawt wife? The conversation has always mostly been about what she needs/needed from him.
  7. *eye roll* They'd better swap out at least 2 of these so-called experts next season. Cilona and his "infallible psychological instruments" should be # 1 on the chopping block. Man, BYE! When are they going to admit that African Americans were under-represented in their pool of respondents , so they really matched Vaughn and Monet because they were the only 2 black folks who sorta fit? I think Cilona knows his spot is up for grabs, which is why he seems so defensive about the epic fail with those two.
  8. Yes to all of this! I felt a little bad for Lee and held my breath as he was trying to work his way up to that date proposal. I knew she was going to say no, but apparently Lee didn't hear the finality in her answer that I heard cause he was like "think about it." Homie, that was a resounding no. I have to admit to having a soft spot for Ms. Ericka Pittman. She delights and surprises me. I pegged her as a bit of an inflexible diva at first, but she seems to be cautiously tryjng new things with Francesco and opening herself up to this process. I like Francesco. I find him to be genuinely positive and kind. Mama Pittman aint feelin him, though. I can't remember how that Tabasum and Francesco (flirting or not) situation unfolded in the epi before this one, so I don't know if her indignation is justified or not. Tabasum seems most salty about Ericka getting his attention instead of her, though. But anyway....I watch this show for Ericka and Brian. I dig them. I'm surprised by how sucked in I've gotten.
  9. Man! Jamie constantly lobs passive-aggressive grenades at Doug. Poor dude! Perhaps it's the case that she sincerely doesn't have a filter and lets thoughts fly as they occur to her. Maybe she isn't really TRYING to be hurtful. IDK... This show has exhausted me after 9 epis of a lot of half-assed 'science' and famewhoring. Mah Gawd! I expected better at the outset. I'm not sure if I'll tune into season 2. Maybe I'll decide that after watching the casting epi next year. I have enjoyed the snarky recaps and the funny/thoughtful discussion here, though.
