Caroline choosing to wait outside during her baby's last moments.

Pa gets so sanctimonious when he starts spouting the Lord's Prayer. Same thing in "Blizzard" where he gets all bible-y.

Yet another creepy, old man, even if it was Ernest Borgnine, taking care of Half-Pint.

Another thing they would not be doing today. But ML liked that "mysterious, disappearing old man" plot point.

  2. Worse than last week. There was only one act I really liked.

    • Warrior Squad - I barely paid attention. They're ok, but we've seen it before.
    • Trigg Watson - the trick was ok, but way too long and the delivery is hokey. I thought he was going to get buzzed by Simon.
    • Summer Rios - I went in rooting for her, but the song choice and mix were not in her favor.
    • Phil Wright & Parent Jam - kiddie nonsense. Howie was right to buzz them.
    • Philip Bowen - there may be such a thing as too much enthusiasm.
    • Mzansi Youth Choir - they were ok. Very likable. Good chance of going through.
    • Justin Jackson - he was ok. The jump roping was gimmicky, and talented enough not to need gimmicks.
    • MOS - I enjoyed their audition, and I like the concept, but I got bored in the middle.
    • Barry Brewer Jr. - likeable, good delivery. What was missing? Oh, the jokes. Material wasn't there.
    • Herwan Legaillard - I actually liked his act. Strange combo, but he works it.
    • Putri Ariani - this goes against everything I thought I believed in, but I absolutely loved it. Great song choice, great performance, great production value. Obviously going through tonight and good chance of winning the whole thing.

@rr2911 called it, Putri and Mzansi going through. Outside chance for Barry Brewer and Summer Rios. Anyone else would really surprise me.

  3. Tuesday, September 5th - Eleven performers take the stage live from the Pasadena Civic Auditorium as judging is turned over to the audience to vote for their favorite performer to move to the final round.

Wednesday, September 6th - Two acts from the previous night's show move on to the final round of competition.

If you're watching after the initial airing, winners will be revealed.

  4. Well, even with a slow start, and some real clunkers, it was a definite improvement over last week.

    • Chioma & the Atlanta Drum Academy - they're ok. More energy than talent.
    • Sharpe Family Singers - whoever said "cruise ship" was right. They can sing, but it's so saccharine. I could see them playing in Disneyland. Wrong song choice.
    • Three G - I'm usually bored with this kind of act, but I actually watched and paid attention to their entire act. I wonder if that falling during the auditions was just a schtick.
    • Erica Coffelt - look, she seems nice. But this isn't even cruise ship, it's office talent show at best.
    • Alfie Andrew - I don't like him at all.
    • Ahren Belisle - he has some genuinely funny material. The timing was off in spots, but I understand the limitations.
    • Dani Kerr - not interested.
    • Ryland Petty - seems like a nice kid, and the dad stuff was nice, but I lost interest and we've seen versions of this trick many times before.
    • Andrew Stanton - that was different! The eye trick was tough to watch, but the act was interesting.
    • Steel Panther - I really couldn't understand most of the words, and neither could the closed-caption bot. They're ok, but I don't really want to see them in the finals.
    • Murmuration - the end message was a little on the nose, but the actual act is mesmerizing in parts. Obviously going to the finals.

Other than Murmuration, it's a tough call.

Maybe: Drum Academy, Three G, Alfie, Ahren, Ryland

Unlikely: Dani, Andrew Stanton, Steel Panther

    Nope: Sharpe Family, Erica

I was wrong about the dog act last week. If Erica goes through, I'm not making any more predictions.

I might watch last year’s. I was just so tired of the show going off the rails.  I’m still not in the right head space for that.

I would bet good money that this year's Kardashian and apparently spider baby incarnation will go flying off the rails.

I was relieved when they eliminated the woman with the long blonde hair and impossible name.  She constantly had her hands in her hair and then right back in the food.  Blecch.

Toneata. I wonder if she made up that spelling. Or even that name. I won't miss her or Kermit, but Terri had the most personality out of the rest of them, so it'll be a little duller without her.

  8. Last season was actually one of the best, IMO. This season looks like it'll be more like the season before it, which was one of the worst, again IMO.

I don't know where they're going with this split season thing. Maybe an attempt to drum up some suspense with a cliffhanger?
