  1. The interviewer was Natalie Morales.

I didn’t really take her Gucci wearing as product placement? I mean, the entire show was about the name and the brand, so I’m guessing she was just part of it. I kept thinking how much she must have worried about what to wear for these interviews, her wardrobe for this episode was more important than it has likely ever been.

  2. Am I remembering correctly from one of the earlier Daybell episodes while the kids were still “missing” that Lori’s mom totally defended her? I did find it interesting that her other brother seemed to be helping her husband try to get away from her. I wouldn’t mind hearing what he has to say, about both Lori and Alex.

I appreciated how much Melani was shown. She’s a mini-Lori and it sounds like her ex husband and those police officers likely saved her kids’ lives. I do wish she could be charged with something.

It’s very obvious Chad’s team is going to try to pin all of this on Alex. I cannot believe with all of those horrible texts his kids are still on his side.

On a final note, in order for Carlos to "fit in" with the other inmates once he was convicted, it was necessary for him to assume the persona we saw at the end with the tattoos (including the facial tattoos and the "loyalty" tattoo across his neck) to announce publicly to his fellow inmates that he had affiliated with a particular prison gang.

He had the tattoos at his trial, before he was convicted and went to prison. He may have gotten them while he was in jail awaiting trial, or he may have joined a gang and got the tattoos even before he got arrested, but saying it was “necessary” is a stretch in my opinion. Many prisoners find ways to survive without joining gangs or advertising their murder count on their faces. We have no way of knowing it he “had” to do this or if he chose to.

  4. They couldn’t even try to fake us out with a jailhouse interview in a normal shirt like they’ve done with some others, because he had that teardrop tattoo loud and proud to give it away. That told me he’s not sorry at all for what he did.

What a terrible story. It was a bit difficult for my partner, who is an adoptee, to watch this one.

Question is why Jenny didn't continue her path in the Nurse timeline?  It wasn't much different than the cop timeline in that she was married and had a child with special needs, but still managed to finish her law degree, pass the bar and eventually join the city attorney's office.  Why not do the same when she was married to Joe?  Did having Joe as her husband inhibit her in a way the other guy didn't?

I’m just guessing here, but I’m thinking in Nurse Joe timeline, either Joe refused to let her dad help them financially, even for Jenny’s law school, or her Dad cut her off for choosing Joe. We saw a bitter scene when her dad tried to give Joe a gift for her on his behalf, so I’m thinking in that storyline it was about Dad’s money.

Maybe in Cop Joe storyline, either Ray/Roy or Dad paid for her law school? I’m guessing Dad definitely paid in Rocker Joe’s.

  6. Lindsey’s habit of talking about everything, including murder, with a huge smile on her face was weird. She has definitely capitalized on the death of a woman she never knew. I was also very put off by the Facebook live celebration she and the brother did after the arrests were announced. It felt over the top and inappropriate.

That one friend’s eyes creeped me out. They kept moving all over while she talked and with all the eyeliner, were too accentuated or something.

She was a waitress before, and I would think that with tips, she could make more money, and wouldn't have to buy her own supplies.

I read somewhere, either an article or an interview with the author, that she could not waitress because the money making shifts are at night and most government-funded day cares only operate during normal business hours. It’s tough to find after hours care if you’re willing to pay top dollar, but even worse for those in Alex’s position.

Nate definitely had a savior complex. It would have been very easy for Alex to fall in with him, setting up for likely a messed up power dynamic for their relationship long term. I was very impressed with her strength and desire for independence, both with that and with turning down Regina’s offer to stay with her.

How does a woman with a child with special needs raising a kid alone get to make partner in a law firm?

In this timeline, Jenny said she works for the Attorney General’s office. I don’t think she specified if she’s a lawyer. Cop Joe assumed she was and she didn’t correct him, so we’ll see. She was Partner in a law firm in Rocker Joe’s life, where she gave up the baby for adoption.

I’m also guessing CP, possibly due to prematurity. She talked about how tiny the baby was several times, that may be a clue.

  9. I wonder if they’re planning to make use of flashbacks to explain how we got to each present-day life. I’d really like to know why Jenny in the CopJoe story did not tell him she was pregnant. They did at least explain that Eric and Amy got together because Eric went after her after Joe left with Jenny. I wonder who Eric ended up with in RockstarJoe’s story, and why they’re divorced now?

There are so many different paths this can take. Hopefully it doesn’t become too much to follow.

Yes! I kept waiting to find out what her connection was to the company. I guess it was just a hobby? But it seemed oddly intense for her.

I don’t want to veer too far off topic, but Roberta had her on her podcast and the show really left out her connection to the whole thing. She was a huge part in exposing LLR’s shady practices from early on. She’s a journalist, so was able to access information about lawsuits and research deeper than most others. I didn’t care for her in the documentary either, but have a lot more respect for what she’s done after listening to the podcast.

Maybe he worked with them? I wonder if there is some connection between all the children he called, like if all their mothers worked at the same company. That would be another thing that makes me think they really know who did it but need more evidence.

The show mentioned that they got all of the families who received the calls together and went through their entire lives to try to find any kind of connection. Stuff like shopping at the same store, using the same repair company, etc. The officer said they couldn’t find any connection.
I wondered how much information may have been available and accessible through the schools back then. I when I remember when I was in elementary school we had a “Buzz Book” published every year that listed every family name, children’s grade and teacher, parents names, phone numbers, and jobs. Probably not it here, but the information was likely not too difficult to find.

  12. Great point about Darryl. I’ve been following Roberta (the one who said she realized it was a cult) and she talks a lot about how hard it was for her to come to terms with being both a victim and a perpetrator in the whole scam. She talked about the guilt she feels for roping others in, and has interviewed many who have family members who don’t speak to them and lost long time friends because of their behaviors related to LLR. Darryl definitely didn’t seem to have that same feeling of responsibility.

  13. Maybe I’m giving Mario and Kelly too much credit, but would they have known back then what a crappy company this was? I fully admit I purchased some LLR in its heyday, before the quality took a nose dive. I knew it was an MLM, but figured it wasn’t much different than Mary Kay and Pampered Chef, which have been around forever. It wasn’t until one of the people I purchased from quit and talked about the thousands in inventory she was stuck with that I really began to see that there was something wrong.
They fooled a lot of people for a few years.

  14. How was that comedy showcase any different or less offensive than what it originally started to be? I honestly don’t understand how the stereotypes they portrayed are different than how it started. Is it only because they were able to write their own skits that they were suddenly acceptable? Or because the substituted unicorns for lesbians?

  15. I found the sibling split in this one interesting. The older one who had already moved out by the time the murder happened would have known his parents and their issues better than the younger ones, but he’s the one who is staying on Jason’s side.

I felt terrible for that poor 16 year old girl. Kids who have to live with knowing one parent killed the other break my heart.

What year is this supposed to be?

Standford is basically free for families making 75K and less.

It felt present-day. I’m guessing her dad made more than 75k as a business owner in NYC, but still not enough to afford Stanford.

  17. I thought Keith said the son was adopted by Martha Ann, and she refused to give him any information about his adoption? She isn’t his biological mother, I don’t think, unless I misunderstood something.

  18. I was seriously waiting for it to somehow be found out that the husband was set up to to go to the in-treatment PTSD place just so he could meet the guy who ended up marrying his wife after he died. It just seems like such a crazy coincidence that these 2 abhorrent scammers were introduced by their husband/brand new BFF. I guess that would be the plot if it were a movie, but real life is not quite so crazy?

Both of them are horrible people.

  19. Which one of her husbands did Lori convince people abused Colby? I do wonder if that has changed for him at all. I think in the first Dateline he was still more on Lori’s side, but not anymore?

I find it hard to believe that Claire's father sent enough money to pay for rent, food and college but never once wanted to see her in person to see how she was doing or to attend her college graduation when he paid for it, or even check that her mother who he himself couldn't live with was treating her well. He also must have been earning 250K or more to be able to afford that. Nice try, writers.

I paid extra attention to this scene because I was wondering if Claire’s dad paid for her college and medical school too. He actually said, “I sent money every month until you finished college. It was more than enough to cover rent, food, and clothes.” So I don’t think he was claiming to pay her college, but it was likely enough to help her with the other expenses.
