  1. A Chicago baby died from (or with?) coronavirus today 😟
  2. Edited to add: I didn't realize this wasn't small talk, so to keep it on topic, I hope the Duggars will be ok (sincerely.)
  3. I'm watching the news and we have tornado like weather heading toward Illinois too. Be safe!
  4. I was glad she responded about one of them.
  5. Here's some excerpts of an article written by an epidemiologist. My cousin, who is an RN, shared it with our family. (She just shared it, she didn't write it) "Seemingly small social chains get large and complex with alarming speed. If your son visits his girlfriend, and you later sneak over for coffee with a neighbor, your neighbor is now connected to the infected office worker that your son's girlfriend's mother shook hands with. This sounds silly, it's not. This is not a joke or a hypothetical. We as epidemiologists see it borne out in the data time and time again and no one listens. Conversely, any break in that chain breaks disease transmission along that chain. In contrast to hand-washing and other personal measures, social distancing measures are not about individuals, they are about societies working in unison. These measures also take a long time to see the results. It is hard (even for me) to conceptualize how 'one quick little get together' can undermine the entire framework of a public health intervention, but it does. I promise you it does. I promise. I promise. I promise. You can't cheat it. People are already itching to cheat on the social distancing precautions just a "little"- a playdate, a haircut, or picking up a needless item at the store, etc. This virus is unforgiving to unwise choices. My goal in writing this is to prevent communities from getting β€˜sucker-punched' by what the epidemiological community knows will happen in the coming weeks. It will be easy to be drawn to the idea that what we are doing isn't working and become paralyzed by fear, or to 'cheat' a little bit in the coming weeks. By knowing what to expect, and knowing the importance of maintaining these measures, my hope is to encourage continued community spirit, strategizing, and action to persevere in this time of uncertainty." Edited to add: just read whole thread and I'm glad you decided against getting together. 😊
  6. This was just tweeted. I included the link to the website if you're interested) No wonder New York (and Illinois!) are so "hot" πŸ˜• https://www.flightradar24.com/
  7. Yes he was. Not sure how he's doing though, because I haven't heard from my niece since she told me he was transferred this afternoon. I don't want to call her too much. (For anyone curious, if you know Chicago hospitals, they transferred him from Norwegian to Rush.)
  8. I do know that when I visited my daughter when she lived in the mountains in New Mexico, I tried to bake cupcakes for my grands..and they didn't turn out right...at all. She didn't have internet up there, so I couldn't look up how to adjust it for a higher altitude. If I remember right..I overcooked the outsides and the middles weren't done?
  9. We are married to the same man. The only thing that shut him up about it "only being the flu" and "fake news" was someone in our family actually getting it. He's only stayed home for me before that happened, because I have COPD, and I told him "if you keep going out, you're going to bring it back here and kill me...and then I'm coming back to haunt you because it'll be all your fault!" (I really DID tell him that)πŸ˜‚ PS...we've been totally sequestered since March 13...so today makes 15 days😯
  10. OK..just got news about a guy who works in the same department with my SIL L___ in a Chicago Home Depot. He's also sick with covid, and had to be put on a ventilator. His wife is a nurse, and now they think SHE has it (they're waiting for the test results.) Is this just happening in my world?! I remember someone here said they had relatives on a cruise who had it? or did I make that up in my head? I feel like I'm losing it. Does anyone in here have real knowledge of someone else that they know personally that has it? If so, what state or area in the country are you from?? Below is a post from a family member from a Caring Bridge site they made to keep us updated on his condition. **************************** March 27, 2020 Journal entry by N___ M_____ β€” Mar 27, 2020 Thank you all for your continued love and support. R___ is currently in ICU, still requiring ventilator support. R____ is still having high fevers today. Please continue to pray for him.
  11. I thought I'd share part of an ongoing family (familia) chat we've been having about my nephew (and covid-19 in general.) The first one was from last night (please pardon my swearing..I was very upset, and it was only between my daughter(doctor's wife) and me, and she also swears like a trucker.) The second chat was from just a little bit ago(with all of my husband's relatives)
  12. Look how many people came back to Illinois! 😭 https://www.dailydot.com/debug/cellphone-heat-map-coronavirus/ (this tweet has the animated video)
  13. I am a glass half full kind of person (usually.) My husband is my exact opposite. I'm always telling him when he starts his worrying and crabbing at the world, "hey...at least you don't sleep in a cardboard box under a bridge!" Now I'm having to remind myself of that. This too shall pass. πŸ’—πŸ’—πŸ’—
  14. Oh no! I watched Sister Wives...noooooooooo!!!!!!
  15. This was put up by my daughter's neighbor, and I thought I'd share 😊 (Bensenville,Illinois)
  16. Or rich and Royal..Prince Charles was just tested and has it.
  17. This was interesting to me. Click the map to see projections for your state. (This model is intended to help make fast decisions, not predict the future) https://covidactnow.org/
  18. I just sent this to my daughter (who normally homeschools all the time anyway, because they live on a boat.) I sent it without comment, except a smile. She watched it and then wrote back "OMGosh!!! That's ______!" (one of her kids) Our whole family already knew this and have privately marveled amongst ourselves that she's still homeschooling and hasn't gone completely bonkers, and just jumped off the boat. 19. These Italian mayors aren't taking any crap from any morons: The guy with the flamethrower remark! OMGosh! πŸ˜‚ (funniest with the sound on)
  20. This is my husband (of 51 years) to a T. I have learned to smile and nod, while totally ignoring him...not easy, I know. I just replace his voice (in my head) with the parent's horn voices from the Charlie Brown cartoons...wah wah Waa waaa waaa waaah...😁 (he means well) πŸ’™
  21. Thanks. He's around 43 (not exactly sure) and up until now had been in great health...no pre-existing conditions, never was a smoker, and not much of a drinker at all. I'm shocked it hit him this hard, tbh.
  22. I just want to say to all you lurkers out there reading this...what better time to say hi? Even if you never said a word before..what better time to jump in? We're all in this together. πŸ’œ πŸ’›β€πŸ’™πŸ’š
