formerlyfreedom June 15, 2019 Share June 15, 2019 Media! ***** Coming in October 2020 on Disney+! Quote The first season of The Right Stuff, which uses Wolfe’s book as its jumping-off point, starts at the height of the Cold War. To combat a national sentiment of fear and decline, the U.S. government conceives of NASA’s Project Mercury, igniting a space race with the Soviets and making instant celebrities of a handful of the military’s adrenaline-fueled test pilots. These individuals, who come to be known as the Mercury Seven, are forged into heroes long before they have achieved a single heroic act. At the heart of a historic drama populated by deeply human characters, archrivals Glenn and Shepard jockey to become the first man in space. ... [Patrick J.] Adams plays Maj. John Glenn, a revered test pilot and committed family man with unwavering principles; [Jake] McDorman portrays Alan Shepard, one of the best test pilots in Navy history, who is furiously competitive; [Joe] Dempsie plays Lt. Gordon Cooper, the youngest of the seven who was selected to everyone’s surprise; [Aaron] Staton portrays Wally Schirra, a competitive pilot with a gift for pulling pranks; [James] Lafferty plays Scott Carpenter, a soulful man who was dubbed “The Poet” by the other astronauts; [Micah] Stock portrays Deke Slayton, a taciturn but incredibly intelligent pilot and engineer; and [Michael] Trotter plays Gus Grissom, a no-nonsense test pilot who eventually becomes the second man in space. ‘The Right Stuff’: Jake McDorman & Joe Dempsie To Star As Nat Geo Series Assembles Mercury Seven Link to comment

CaptainIrony November 21, 2020 Share November 21, 2020 (edited) If there is a season 2 production will be moving to California. https://deadline.com/2020/11/coronavirus-california-tax-credits-hunters-right-stuff-amazon-disney-1234617652/ That's got to improve its chances for renewal. I don't know what the ratings are like but the show has hardly been a critical success and I haven't noticed much audience buzz. Edited November 21, 2020 by CaptainIrony Link to comment
CaptainIrony April 3, 2021 Share April 3, 2021 The Right Stuff has been cancelled. https://deadline.com/2021/04/the-right-stuff-canceled-disney-plus-shopped-warner-bros-tv-1234726920/ They are trying to shop it around, maybe to HBO Max, but lets face it the show wasn't very good, it's probably a goner. It's a shame, I had been really looking forward to it before it started, but they took a really interesting story, good production values, a decent cast (arguable but I've seen a lot of them in other things and with good material they are definitely capable of better) and managed to suck the life and energy out of everything. The whole thing felt flat. I hope the cast are freed up soon so they can move on to other things. 1 Link to comment
