UYI March 26, 2018 Share March 26, 2018 My favorite sports movie of all time. I'd say it isn't even close, but it is: A League of Their Own is up there, too. I went to the real Field of Dreams baseball field in Eastern Iowa two years ago, and it was a dream come true. I'll never forget it. 1 Link to comment
rmontro March 29, 2018 Share March 29, 2018 I'm a sentimental sap, but this movie always makes me tear up. Parts of it are kind of strange though, like people saying "Ray" so much. "Ray. Ray. Listen to me, Ray". One thing I could never make sense of: At the end, the ghost ballplayers say they're calling it a day, and go back to the cornfield. But then all those cars show up to the ballpark, lined up as far as the eye can see. But what are they coming to watch? There's no game that night, the ghosts already quit playing for the day. They probably won't be back until the next day. Are all the visitors going to sleep in their cars? Great movie though. I read Shoeless Joe, the book it was based on. I'd say the movie was better, but it was worth a read I thought. I also read another book on baseball by the author, W.P. Kinsella, called The Iowa Baseball Confederacy, which is about a (fictional) 1908 game between some Iowa All Stars and the Chicago Cubs that lasts for 40 days and over 2,000 innings. It gets kind of bizarre but also a good read. 1 Link to comment
Sharpie66 March 30, 2018 Share March 30, 2018 Lots of great roles in this film, but my favorite is Burt Lancaster. He is so wonderfully charming. 2 Link to comment
