This is a place to share all of your loving thoughts about Dumpster Diva and The Garbage Pail Kids. I've got them on my mind again after watching the animated version of "The Dark Knight Returns," because there's a gang in it called The Mutants that seem to have inspired them. The Mutants like to hold their meetings in a trash dump, you can only win their respect by kicking ass in front of them, and they have their own stupid pidgin dialect, which they sometimes forget to use because it's obviously just an affectation.

Only the wardrobe and hairstyles are different. But of course they have to be. If Diva had a shaved head, she wouldn't be able to say "Me like bangs. Bang Rick now, yes?"

Did we ever get a full explanation about why she chose to talk that way? I understood her to say that living in the dump was some sort of artistic vision but didn't hear anything else.

So TPTB on TWD stole this idea? They thought it was worth stealing and using? Was it supposed to be mysterious, quirky or avant garde? "Dumb" is the word that comes to my  mind. As someone who has a phobia about garbage - I swear I could smell the sickly-sweet, gag-worthy stench through my screen - I did not like it at all. Even though Jadis had a clean Ikea lair, I'm sure it still reeked of decay.

It really makes no sense for the garbage people to speak that way. There's nothing logical about it. I read an article once where the executive producer of TWD, David Alpert, explained that having been removed from any sense of "community" outside the group, and being cut off from things like TV, radio, etc., Jadis and her bunch developed their own dialect. But that makes no sense. The apocalypse didn't start that long ago--the FANDOM Wiki gives the time range of 20 months--and you don't develop all new speaking patterns until after years and years of isolation. The only viable explanation I can give for Jadis and her group's dialect is that they all decided among themselves to speak that way, for whatever reason.

Only rationale I could come up with is the whole GPK group was part of some military PsyOps operation.  Posing as a bunch of light-fingered-but-otherwise-inoffensive oddballs might give them some intelligence-gathering leeway they may not otherwise have, in term of penetrating and/or interacting with other survivor groups.

I'm going with weed. One of those many junkyard containers was full of it because the former owner was involved with the regional drug gang and helped store their product. Who would suspect a junkyard, right?
