The Menendez Brothers

There's a show on ABC about the Menendez brothers.  Did anybody watch?  What do you all think of this case?  This is another one that I followed pretty closely when it was happening.

I watched an episode (2 parter) of Snapped last weekend about the Menendez brothers. I'll definitely check out the ABC show.

This is one of those crimes where no matter how much you learn, or how many shows you watch, you can never be 100% sure how guilty the admitted murderers are (given mitigating factors like sexual abuse) or how long they should stay in prison. There are arguments for all sides.

This is true. I used to be very opinionated on their culpability, but changed my mind some after the abuse seemed to be confirmed.  With that kind of abuse….it’s difficult to blame them…but, I still struggle with their age and their behavior after the murders.  It’s complicated.

I think they’re obviously guilty, of course.  But, I also don’t necessarily believe that their free-wheeling spending after the murders indicates that they did it for any kind of “let’s get Dad’s and Mom’s money!” reason.  I think they’d been under their parents’ thumbs so long they went a bit crazy with their freedom.  I think they should have served time, definitely…but I’m just not 100% sure they still should be.
