David T. Cole February 18, 2014 Share February 18, 2014 Unexpected news is revealed at Kathryn's murder-mystery party; Bay hopes to score an invitation to Tank's fraternity luau; Daphne plans a celebration for Campbell's 21st birthday. Link to comment
clemmyb February 20, 2014 Share February 20, 2014 I can't be the only person who watches and loves this show, right? Right? At any rate, this was not the season's best episode by far. Something about it felt a little off the entire time, and I'm having a hard time figuring out exactly what it is. I know that part of it is not wanting Bay and Tank to have a romantic relationship (how hard is it for a male and female to have a platonic friendship on TV?) and not being totally sold on how quickly she turned around on how she felt about him. A larger part might be how incredibly awkward the Jenessa/John kiss reveal was at the murder mystery party. I mean, of course it was going to come out, and it's not even the fact that this is a plot point that bothers me. It's something about how the entire thing was staged. I don't know. It didn't work for me. And Daphne's two love interests are totally boring and do nothing to serve her as a character. Blech. Also, no Emmett? What a waste of an episode. Link to comment
Tara Ariano February 20, 2014 Share February 20, 2014 Margaret Lyons (of Vulture) tweeted on Tuesday that she didn't buy that a marriage like Kathryn and John's would blow up over a kiss -- which it hasn't, irretrievably, but even that she'd kick him out seems like kind of an overreaction. To me, they are both equally justified in being furious at the other; her going ahead with this book without talking to him is pretty bad. 1 Link to comment
clemmyb February 21, 2014 Share February 21, 2014 They definitely are, and I hope the show addresses that more fully. I've always appreciated how much care and consideration the show gives its characters, and I'd like to see that here, too. Link to comment
Amy February 23, 2014 Share February 23, 2014 But it's not really just the kiss or the book that is causing their problems, is it? The marriage problems started long before this season. Kathryn has always taken a backseat in their marriage in order to support John in his pursuits. And she just wants the same from him. Now that their kids are older, she's been searching for something meaningful to do with her life. And John has never supported her! The original book about the switch gave her something, but then that was over. And then she was the one who wanted to run for Congress, but John totally took that from her, and she stood by him! Now this season she's back to searching, and he's back to being a jerk about not wanting her to do anything other than support him! I totally buy that the kiss was just the last straw - and a thing that she feels justified in kicking him out for. (And yeah, her doing the book without talking to him is bad. But I don't really care because I am team Kathryn all the way. And also because I'm a baseball fan and I totally want to read that book.) And I love Tank and I hope he and Bay fall in love and are happy together forever. I like Emmett fine, but he and Bay are done and I hope they stay that way. Would love to have Emmett on the show more frequently; I just hope that they figure out a way to give us more Emmett without having him get back together with Bay. 2 Link to comment
clemmyb February 26, 2014 Share February 26, 2014 You're totally right about everything regarding John and Kathryn, and you said it much more eloquently than I ever could. I had forgotten about the fact that Kathryn had wanted to run for congress--which feels like a failing on my part. I'm team Kathryn all the way, too. I want her to figure out her life stuff and John can come if he fits into HER plan. I'm still not sold on Bay and Tank, but I'm not sure I want her and Emmett back together, either. I just want more Emmett, full-stop. Link to comment
