greenbean September 17, 2015 Share September 17, 2015 There's been a fair amount of promo for The Scorch Trials, has anyone seen it yet? Idk, it looks it little corny, but I'm curious about Dylan's performance. Link to comment

methodwriter85 September 19, 2015 Share September 19, 2015 (edited) I did. I enjoyed it a lot. Rosa Salazar was probably disappointed at how much they cut her role in Insurgent, so I'm glad she got to shine in The Maze Runner 2. Edited September 19, 2015 by methodwriter85 Link to comment
jcin617 September 24, 2015 Share September 24, 2015 (edited) I can't recall the last movie I saw based on a book that diverged so wildly from the source material as Scorch Trials did. The character names were the same, but... that's about it. I guess I liked the movie but I had a hard time getting over this disconnect that the plots weren't even remotely the same. Probably when I watch it again when it comes to OnDemand I'll be able to enjoy it at face value. Edited September 24, 2015 by jcin617 Link to comment
ramble September 24, 2015 Share September 24, 2015 I understand the feeling of disconnect from the source material. They were quite different. I did enjoy this though, but I knew going it that it would be majorly different from the books. My youngest, who fiercely loves the book series, had stayed up to date on the film enough to keep me informed. She declared it a movie "inspired by" the books as opposed to "based on." Having read the books myself I agreed. I think, due to Dylan O'Brien's large popularity, especially with teens, the studio seems to have chosen to focus on his character almost exclusively. It felt like the Thomas movie with other supporting characters. (And I say that as someone who likes O'Brien.) If I think about the books I would've expected more of a group effort & specifically more Minho. If I let my enjoyment of the books influence me too much I wouldn't have liked it as much, but fortunately for me I was pre-warned by my kiddo. She did love that Newt finally called Thomas Tommy. She squealed the first time he did it, however in a theater largely full of tweens & teens it blended right in. Link to comment
methodwriter85 September 24, 2015 Share September 24, 2015 Wow, they diverged even more from the book plot than the Insurgent movie did? I only read the first book so I didn't know about the changes. I saw the movie a second time, and Rosa really did steal the show. She was great. I'm also trying to wonder if Teresa just sucks as a character, because I'm not seeing why everybody thinks Kayla Scodelario is a great actress. She was pretty wooden. 1 Link to comment

jcin617 October 1, 2015 Share October 1, 2015 Wow, they diverged even more from the book plot than the Insurgent movie did? Despite the major differences, Insurgent at least kept a lot of the same general plot points and beats as the book did. The only scene in Scorch Trials that I recall from the book was the one in the club/rave where Thomas was hallucinating. Everything else was a totally different story. Not a bad story either, just a different one. Makes me wonder what they'll do with The Death Cure. Link to comment
Rick Kitchen October 1, 2015 Share October 1, 2015 I wonder if, considering how, apparently they're just making up plots, if they will continue to use Thomas in the further books, even though he isn't the star of the other books after Death Cure. Link to comment
methodwriter85 October 2, 2015 Share October 2, 2015 I thought the books afterward were like prequels? In any event, it does seem like they're sticking to this as a trilogy. Link to comment
greenbean October 6, 2015 Share October 6, 2015 (edited) At first I thought the current artefact scandal was pr for the movie, but perhaps it's become too negative for that? http://www.thepetitionsite.com/en-gb/429/020/568/ But then maybe such controversy is still good for publicity, idk. I love that the image included has the Scorch Trials poster at the side. It does not at all look like an ad. Edited October 6, 2015 by greenbean Link to comment
