S14:E19: I Wanna Be Adored

Clare’s (Aislinn Paul) been absent from prom committee meetings, and Alli (Melinda Shankar) is starting to get worried. Something is up with her best friend, but somehow Alli isn’t in the loop this time. Zig (Ricardo Hoyos) needs somewhere to go, seeing as his mom isn’t ready to take him back just yet. Tiny (Richard Walters) and his brother Vince take Zig in, but Zig is unprepared for the lifestyle adjustment. Tristan (Lyle Lettau) is trying online dating, but his profile isn’t getting much action. After some “adjustments”, he catches the attention of a handsome suitor. The only problem is Tristan is nothing like his new profile.

 

This social worker is worthless. Um, so Zig's mother doesn't want him back in the house? So she's okay with him essentially being homeless? Why is he not calling the police on her or sitting them both down to hash this out? This isn't a case where Zig was being abused or he was hitting his mother; there's no reason for this guy not to being working towards getting Zig back into his home. Mama Novak can go die.

 

So Vince did prison time for shooting Adam...like a year? And he's out? Great lawyer I guess or prison overcrowding. I did like his stone face seeing Zig practice...though this arrangement will lead to nothing but trouble. I also have the feeling we should see more of Tiny and how he feels living with his brother...where are their parents? Anyway.

 

So Alli's lone A-Plot this season revolved around Clare. Sigh. But to tell the truth, they pretty much spent their biggest Alli storyline back in season 10 and nothing Alli has done has been as good as that storyline. But I like a good Clare/Alli plot so this was sweet.

 

Rolling my eyes at Tristan but the gay dating world is bullshit for the part so I can relate. I mean, how many gay guys on these apps are into hiking? That guy was cute, I wonder if we'll see him next season.

it did drive me nuts that Mama Matlin was very much you need to leave though and he's already in a situation, and that the social worker didn't even go "you know let me think of something else better." going back into a situation where you know is drama/trouble makes me so mad. honesty. 

 

so we're back to Miles/Zoe now? meh. 
shut up Tristan. 

 

Not liking Ali's hair this season. but I do get how she feels.

French bistro prom did sound really boring. I'm not sure that a pirate prom was a better theme but prom should be fun since it's mostly about dancing anyway... not having a sit down dinner. Boats are overrated though. People get sea sick. You're trapped in your venue.

 

The gang counselor or whatever he's called was useless. "I can't make you do anything"? It's not like Zig was desperate to stay with Tiny. You asked him what his options were and he doesn't have many. Couldn't you offer a solution? Sigh... Degrassi adults.

 

I get it. You want your strong actors to prop up your weak actors. But it would be so much better to just have power couples. I don't want Maya/Zig and Zoe/Miles. I want Zig/Zoe.

 

I hate the fake drama of people not being able to say the thing that would resolve the issue.

 

I forgot what happened with Tristan's weight loss. Was he anorexic? Did he show any signs of athleticism? I can never retain the storylines for more than a season.

 

At least they have Eli conveniently working at The Dot to overhear conversations.

 

Tiny and his brother convincing Zig to play video games and have one beer instead of going to bed is really low on the Degrassi peer pressure scale. It's also really difficult to be invested in the success or failure of the musical when it's Winston's project.

 

Poor Ali. Nothing is her fault right now.

 

Oh, yes, the awful new principal. Readily agreeing to let them have prom on a boat.

 

Yay! Tristan's pretty awful sometimes but I'm glad he found himself a cute (cuter than Miles) boyfriend. Now maybe he can stop whining about not being in a relationship.

I wasn't aware that Zig knew how to help out with the drugs. Wasn't his involvement last time just getting them shoved at him and being forced to deal them?

I forgot what happened with Tristan's weight loss. Was he anorexic? Did he show any signs of athleticism? I can never retain the storylines for more than a season.

There was one episode where he did a cleanse to lose weight and also went overboard with exercise and ended up passing out or something. I don't think it was shown as an ongoing issue after that episode though.

Between seasons the actor lost a lot of weight. It was weird because when he came back skinny it was at the beginning of the "summer in Paris" season so in show time it was supposed to be fairly soon after the end of the previous season. There was no plausible explanation for the character dropping so much weight in the short period of time that would have elapsed in the show, so they basically just ignored it. The following "school year" he joined the basketball team.

His brother (remember, his brother??), helped him to lose weight the "right way", since he was an athlete.

I swear I remember reading that Lyle Lettau was wearing a fat suit to make him look a bit bigger. 

But show wise, Owen helped him lose weight. so I'm guess that + maybe a growth spurt and woila.

Tristan went on a cleanse and started exercising excessively causing him to have a minor heart attack. He was hospitalized and Owen was there with him. Owen said that he would help him lose the weight healthier and that was the last they addressed it.
