ottoDbusdriver March 6, 2015 Share March 6, 2015 Moving this over from a post initially in the "Ancient. Chinese. Secret." thread For some brilliant reason known only to programming execs, Fox has decided to go full-on "Almost Human" and air Backstrom episodes significantly out of order from which they were produced which makes certain plot threads confusing as well as making Almond's beard appear/disappear/reappear. Here's the original post: The Pilot episode was filmed about 2 years ago (I'll call that Production Episode 0 for simplicity since it's production code is way out of order), but based on the production codes of the episodes since the pilot (https://en.wikipedia...eries)#Episodes), the order appears to be as follows: Aired Episode Production Episode----------------- ------------------------ 1 0 2 4 3 1 4 2 5 7 6 10 7 3 Based on that list there are two produced episodes (#8 and #9) that seem to be missing from the order between aired episodes 5 and 6, so I think that Niedermayer and Paquet's relationship probably developed over those two so far unaired episodes. @Mecca is spot on about the beard -- Almond had a mustache and goatee in the first four aired episodes, that then went missing for Aired Episodes 5 and 6, and is back in the previews for next week. So somewhere between production episodes 4 and 7, Almond shaves it all off. 2 Link to comment
ottoDbusdriver March 6, 2015 Author Share March 6, 2015 Updated to include the next episode that's not airing for 3 weeks. Aired Episode Production Episode----------------- ------------------------ 1 0 2 4 3 1 4 2 5 7 6 10 7 3 8 6 Backstrom's former fiancee is back, and Almond's beard is gone -- again -- in the next episode (#8). 1 Link to comment
marketdoctor March 6, 2015 Share March 6, 2015 I hope they fix this in the DVD (also that there is a DVD, though I could see why when you have $5 worth of packaging and materials and sell the DVD for $30, how could you make any money?) If they ever do a remake of Police Squad!, I hope they address this, because it seems to hurt every show that has a glimmer of continuity. (Also the callback to the serial killer would have made a lot more sense in an earlier episode.) 1 Link to comment
ottoDbusdriver April 1, 2015 Author Share April 1, 2015 Updated to include the next 3 aired episodes (episodes #9, 10, 11), per Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backstrom_%28TV_series%29) Aired Episode Production Episode----------------- ------------------------ 1 0 2 4 3 1 4 2 5 7 6 10 7 3 8 6 9 5 10 8 11 9 Here's the really weird part -- in the episode 9 previews, Backstrom is only just now figuring out that Valentine is his son, despite the fact that this is a known fact in previous aired episodes. Man, this makes things confusing. I would love to know the logic of why Fox feels the need to to air shows out of order -- since this isn't the first time they have done it . 2 Link to comment
Glory April 2, 2015 Share April 2, 2015 Frustrating. I'm still watching and quite like it. But I watched Almost Human to the end too. 1 Link to comment
Actionmage April 3, 2015 Share April 3, 2015 Thank you, otto! Yeah, I wonder which list is shorter: FOX shows that aren't shown out of order or cancelled FOX shows that were. (Keeping good thoughts about Backstrom, though. It's actually a good show.) 1 Link to comment
ottoDbusdriver April 17, 2015 Author Share April 17, 2015 (edited) Updated to include the final 2 aired episodes (episodes #12, 13), per Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia...rom_(TV_series))Aired Episode Production Episode----------------- ------------------------ 1 0 2 4 3 1 4 2 5 7 6 10 7 3 8 6 9 5 10 8 11 9 12 12 13 11 Next week's episode (aired episode # 12) is supposed to the be the season finale per the production codes. Not sure why they would move it (the season finale) up a week and then show the penultimately produced episode as the final episode. Man, Fox sure knows how to screw things up good.
