buttersister October 29, 2014 Share October 29, 2014 Leaving behind the Africa we've come to know in the news -- full of corruption, poverty and conflict -- Tony embraces the wild, untamed continent of mystery, adventure and exoticism during a visit to Tanzania. Well, I learned how to coagulate blood in a dead goat. And was it my imagination or did Tony about shit his pants thinking that hippo might have him in his sights? Link to comment
ottomaddox October 31, 2014 Share October 31, 2014 Wow. This episode had such a interesting juxtaposition of segments. I have the feeling this could have easily been two shows. Did anyone else notice hear the thunder while Tony was extingishing the goat? Please let that be real and not added in post. I find his squeamishness a little contrived too.. perhaps that was more for the lil ol' ladies at home than anything else. I'm pretty sure Tony has butchered animals before? I was tickled to watch the Masai whip out their cellphones, althought the forshadowing converstation about the cheif's son at Montclair should have been a tip off about the direction this was headed. captain1 November 2, 2014 Share November 2, 2014 (edited) I thought this was a particularly beautiful episode. I don't think the thunder was added later, because the sky looked pretty threatening at the time. The Masai people are fascinating. Edited November 2, 2014 by captain1 Link to comment
Rai November 19, 2014 Share November 19, 2014 Well, here's a completely depressing answer to the question Bourdain posed -- who gets more prority, the safari annimals or the Masai, and who should get the bigger priority? Apparently, neither. :/ http://www.salon.com/2014/11/17/tanzania_will_sell_masai_homeland_to_dubai_royal_family/ Link to comment
ElectricBoogaloo November 20, 2014 Share November 20, 2014 (edited) Wow, that IS really depressing. While watching the episode, With episodes like these, I get the conflict they are trying to show between keeping up traditions versus becoming modern and that sometimes you can do both (like the Masai with cell phones as noted above). But it's sad when you see that neither are winning in the situation where they sell their land to the Dubai royals. Where will all those people go?
