babyrambo December 16, 2024 Share December 16, 2024 Still liking the calmer take on the apocalypse but I dislike how much the writers gloss over the finer details and unique aspects of this show to instead rely on the usual narrative cliches. I get that it’s a miniseries/book adaptation & I don’t need a play by play of the character’s every moment, but they’ll introduce something interesting, like the mute kid or the new group, and then yada yada over the meat and potatoes with some shallow conversation and bland melodrama. Because why not show the kid coming around with a few scenes of trust over the years? Or show how the newbies resolved their tension? or the singer’s addiction? One singalong does not plot development make. Obviously I can make the leap but still, the point of TV is to show and they do so little of that when it matters. It’s all corny montages to move the story along and it’s getting stale. I’m also still wary of the way they treat pregnancy, like it’s it’s oh so natural and lowkey event that women will just ‘overcome’, when it’s a serious medical condition that can result in death. Even in the most medically sound circumstances. The mothers make a fleeting comment about their bodies and being prepared or in this episode, postpartum, but then the show just moves along & acts like childbirth in a literal apocalypse is no big deal. I don’t want to see a traumatic birth I do wonder why they even bring up these big issues like pregnancy or alcoholism or abuse, only to do nothing interesting or complex about it? Makes the show come off a bit shallow, mild post apocalyptic experience or not. 1 Link to comment https://forums.primetimer.com/topic/151105-s01e03-world-without-end/#findComment-8534100
Anela December 18, 2024 Share December 18, 2024 (edited) I wasn't happy with the way he responded to her first pregnancy announcement, but it was surprising to see that they had two more children, as well. They are all gorgeous, but I would be afraid of keeping them safe, too. *edit. And more children. The new people felt off, but I used to watch The Walking Dead, and almost everyone was evil. I'm glad that Ish mentioned Emma spray-painting their address on a building. For a minute, I thought Jorge was hitting on one of the new women. I had to rewind. They are very sweet together, too. I'm still waiting for Evie's father to show up. And the dog aging makes me sad. My own dog is nine now, and it's been getting to me. He's not using the stairs as much, or getting on the couch or beds like he used to. Okay, that lion scared me. I wasn't expecting that. Evie spoke/screamed! Aw. I hope the doctor can save him. LaylaGirl January 13 Share January 13 As I said earlier, this is a much different take on the apocalypse then modern movies and tv shows usually show. I read the book, so new what to expect. The novel goes quite a bit into how much they should try and rebuild the old society and how much they should accept how things are now and try to adapt to a new norm.
