16 new artists who will go tat for tat in a battle of generations for Season 16 of the reality competition series, returning to Paramount+ with its first three episodes on Oct. 23 in the U.S. and Canada.

The OGs, a group of artists who have worked in the industry for more than a decade, and the Young Guns, a group of rookies who have worked as artists for less than 10 years, put their skills to the test and battle it out in epic challenges for the chance to win $250,000 and the title of “Ink Master.”

I am through episode 6 and really enjoying this season. Some good artists and fun flash challenges. They have dialed down the stupid trash talking aspect between the teams and show more tattooing, so that is a plus. Two blind judgings so far, so hopefully we will get even more of those.

Spoiler

Rooting for the Asian woman!

While his tattoos are good, I don't want to see the father win.

The mettalic challenge must have looked better in person.

I appreciate that the drama has been dialed down (though I don’t want to see Pony get caught up in the alliance nonsense that Stephanie proposed.

Poor Lucy ended up with the absolute worst canvases! I am *over* artists getting derailed by canvases who don’t care about the brief. I get that it’s your body, dude, but this is season 16 and the artists have specific challenges to meet. The canvases know this. I think the show should have a pool of standby canvases to allow artists to reject people who demand, say, a black & grey realistic portrait on their ribs, non-negotiable, when the challenge is a 6-hour American Traditional pinup on the forearm. Take that bit of drama out of the equation entirely and send a message to the canvases that “the customer is always right” has its limits when you sign up for a free tattoo on a competition show (and for people who argue that the artists need to be able to finesse their clients, in the real world the artist can simply refuse to tattoo someone who asks for a tattoo the artist can’t do well).

The problem with this season is that they're either going to have to get a really, really surprisingly bad tattoo to send Old Man Tex home or he's just going to win. I mean, there's no drama in a good way but there's also no drama in a bad way. It's either a foregone conclusion or they're going to have to twist themselves in knots to get a different outcome.

The double elimination really screwed Lucy.

Wow, and I thought the live finale had a lot of filler. Maybe they could throw in a competition between the ones that got eliminated for a $5,000 bonus prize or something to fill out the finale.

Aside from that, I thought it was a pretty entertaining season. The winner was a foregone conclusion, but that guy was the most talented. Had to laugh when they threw a couple votes at the son to try to keep it interesting, but I really don't think there was ever any contest.
