I watched the first episode, "In the Beginning", which takes us up through Doug Williams in the history of Black QBs.  Other than the fact I could very much do without Michael Vick and Roger Goodell both referring to what Vick did as a "mistake" rather than a years-long series of disgusting choices, I'm enjoying this so far.  Williams, in particular, was a terrific interview subject and I'm glad they included so much of him.

The second half of the series might be long for you. Since I came in on the Rams finding a reason to replace Shack Harris I was hoping for more of the elder generations. Most of the show is at a time when half of the NFL starts Black quarterbacks with guess who as what evolution lead to. I was thinking perhaps someone else should have narrated.

Agreed. I am speculating that they may have had a tough time getting many of the decision makers during the early years because 1) age and 2) no matter how terrible what people thought and did, few want to explain their thought processes or own their actions publically.

There's a recently published book by Louis Moore, The Great Black Hope which takes on the subject. It points to the 1955 pair born into Jim Crow south, Vince Evans of the Bears starting against Doug Williams then of Tampa Bay in 1980. With Williams designed to be a NFL quarterback by Coach Robinson at Grambling as his social mission but nobody noticing that less storied Vince Evans was the prototype of the future

I think we have reached the point where old coaches could say perhaps we were wrong, it has happened in other aspects of society. I especially would like to more about how pre Doug Williams prototype QB Shack Harris after 3 playoff seasons lost to short Pat Haden, Vince Evans' immedite predecessor at USC.
