The primary language is French and was shot entirely on location in France. Monsieur Spade is based the famous San Francisco private detective/private eye/private investigator, Sam Spade, made popular from the 1930 novel "The Maltese Falcon" and four short stories found in "The Adventures of Sam Spade and other stories". The Maltese Falcon was made into a movie in 1941, with Humphrey Bogart playing Sam Spade. The events of this TV Series take place long after "The Maltese Falcon", set in 1963, right after the Algerian War. Sam Spade has retired to the small town of Bozuls in the South of France. Spade spends his time chasing the women of the village and swimming naked in his pool. That is until a rumor that an old adversary has returned. Six beloved nuns have been brutally murdered at the local convent. As the town grieves, secrets emerge, and new leads are established. Spade learns that the murders are somehow connected to a mysterious child who is believed to possess great powers. Spade is pulled from his idyllic life when he is hired to investigate the gruesome murders.
