New variants of Covid will always be with us just as new variants of Influenza (flu) are always with us, which means that there will be annual Covid shots just as there are annual flu shots; and, just as with flu shots, those who receive annual Covid shots will have increased protection against infection while, just as with flu shots, those who don't will not have increased protection against infection - - that is what I think the statement "Covid never left" means.
