I had read book 1 long before the tv series was announced. I bought it because of my love of Jonathan Stroud's Bartimaeus series. I was disappointed when I first read Lockwood & Co as I didn't like it. I found all three of the lead characters annoying. Still, I watched the series and Loved it. 

So I went back and reread the book and loved it. I think it really helped me to be able to visualize the actors who brought so much charm and charisma to characters that came across as annoying on paper. 

I just bought book 2 and can't wait to read it. Given that the title is The Whispering Skull, and the synopsis sounds like what happened in the show, I think it will be a quick read and I'll be anxious to get to book 3.
