Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai Season 1 will be 10 half-hour episodes airing on Cartoon Network and HBO Max, it has already been renewed for a Second Season.  

In Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, we travel back to 1920s Shanghai, decades before the time frame of the 1984 “Gremlins” live-action Movie. To reveal the story of how a naïve 10-year-old Sam Wing met the young Mogwai called Gizmo. 

"Mogwai" is the Cantonese word for "Demon" and in the 1984 movie "Gremlins" it is shown that Sam Wing grows up to become the Chinatown Curiosity Shop owner Mr. Wing, played in the film by Keye Luke. Revealed in this movie and in the 1990 sequel film "Gremlins: The New Batch", the sun causes the Mogwai to die and water causes them to reproduce. If they eat after midnight, the Mogwai turn into evil monsters called "Gremlins". Sam and Gizmo, along with a 12-year-old street thief named Elle, take a perilous journey through the Chinese countryside, encountering, and sometimes battling, colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. On their quest to return Gizmo to his family and uncover a legendary treasure. They are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.

Gabrielle Green voices Elle, a 12-year-old street urchin.

A.J. LoCascio voices Gizmo 

Izaac Wang voices Sam Wing, who lives with his family in the tiny apartment behind their struggling medicine shop. Sheltered and cautious, Sam will be thrown into the adventure of a lifetime when he promises his Grandpa he’ll get Gizmo home.

BD Wong voices Hon Wing, Sam’s father, a “calm rock” that has never believed his father-in-law’s tales of magic and adventure. But when Hon and Fong become separated from Sam, he realizes the world is stranger than he thought, and that he’ll need to become braver to reunite his family.

Ming-Na Wen voices Fong Wing, Sam’s mother, a doctor of Chinese medicine who is resourceful, slyly funny and fiercely protective of her family, even her frequently troublesome father.  She’ll do anything to aid and protect her son.

James Hong voices Grandpa, Fong Wing's father, a free spirit and self-proclaimed expert in Chinese myth and magic, Grandpa is the elder of the Wing family, who claims to have traveled the world on grand adventures, but nobody really believed him… until now. He alone knows the true power (and secrets) of the Mogwai and the importance of protecting them. 
 
Matthew Rhys voices Riley Greene, a power-hungry English industrialist and treasure hunter who wields black magic that is determined to stop at nothing in his pursuit of Gizmo and the mythical treasure of the Mogwai.
